*****UPDATE!!!!******

Our guide, Tony, just called back and I did it! I added on 100 points with the MB for our December use year! It took even less than the 5 minutes others have mentioned!! He said we'd get something in the mail in a couple of weeks.

He said we'll be selling back 2002 points and get all of 2003 this December. Can anyone tell me, will this 100 points be totally separate always? It's a separate contract right?

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

****************************************************

Well, we have 170 points and for the last couple of years, we've borrowed because we stayed at monorail resorts.

This year we're going to stay home for the first time!!

We are thinking 100 points is a good amount to add on. That brings us to 270 points per year BWV.

We have 2 DD's, 3 1/2 and 7 years old.

We usually go in Oct. or Dec. and pull the girls out of school.

We are trying to think of the future. If we go more expensive times so we don't have to take the girls out of school and then way in the future for when our girls have kids of their own...we'll need 2 bedroom unit more often. We'd probably only go up to the Dream Season.

Does 270 sound good for our family and our needs?

I just don't know how anyone can figure out the 'best' amount for them?? Is that why we all keep adding?

First off I do not think you can ever have enough points...LOL

We started with 300 points thinking the same way you are. We have 2 DD (9,11) and we have never borrowed points, but we have never had trouble using them either. We had to go three times last year, but who can complain with that. We added on with 100 BCV points a couple of months ago, so we would have points on property. Are othe points are at HH. Even with the 400 points I do no think we will have trouble using them. If we do have problems we can always sell them.

To be honest it is all up to you and what you can afford. What do you fell comfortable with, are you going to go more times when you get older, are you going to take the whole family when they get older? There are a lot of possibilities to use the points. People get by with 150 and love it. I do not want to stay off-site on weekends and that uses points. Good luck in your decision and an early welcome home again.

Sorry that I can't help you... I'm not sure if adding 400 points would be enough. :p :p

It seems like the more points you have, the more ways you can find to spend them!

Enjoy your add-on!

I figured everyone would say you never have enough!!

Actually, staying at our home resort this year makes this the first time we don't have to borrow! Those monorail resorts are expensive!!!

I also know that once we stay 'home' this December, my DH will never want to stay at a non-DVC again! That's why I got them over with first!!

I guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and get 100 more points and hope for the best!

With 270 points per year (and only needing a one-bedroom right now) I think we'll be alright. We just won't stay a whole week in peak seasons!!

I have to agree with everyone else on the subject of points...can you ever have enough?:p

I also have to say that if you are even thinking about possibly adding on in the future and can afford it now, then I would do it now. Our original purchase of 300 points in 1998 was for $62.75 per point. In 2000 we added on 200 points for $65.00, and just recently we added on another 200 points at $84.00 per point. That's a pretty big difference.

A few other things to think about. I know your DD's are still pretty young but what happens in a few years. We also have 2 DD's (13 & 7), and we have found that we will need a 2 bdr from now on. The girls are to big to sleep comfortably on the pull out sofa and once you have a teenager (especially a girl) in the house, you will realize that one bathroom is not enough.

Again, this is always a hard decision to make and only you can decide what is best for your family. There are people that have 150 points and they make it work. Then there are those like us who just keep adding on and using those points every year.

Yes, your add-on is a separate contract. It will have your same main number and a .00x at the end with x being the number of add-ons you have done (.001 if its your first add-on).

As to points, its a personal call. Sounds like you might want a 2 bedroom at some point, but there is no reason not to wait and buy the points when you need them.

Heres what we did for comparison. We have two girls, both college age, so we are making most trips ourselves now. We bought BCV and OKW.

Our BCV contract was location driven (11 month window for October to early December, SAB, proximity to Epcot, MGM, BW, good restaurants and miniature golf) -- we bought 215 points split into two contracts to cover one week in a one bedrorm during Choice season. We will use Choice and Adventure season weeks about equally.

OKW was a 300 point resale contract, which covers a week during Magic season in a two bedroom. Value (lowest maintenance fees, lowest number of points for 2 bedrooms, largest units, great contract price because it was a stripped contract and we negotiated what we felt was a great deal on maintenance fees and closing costs) as well as laid back atmosphere were the decision factors there.

Hope that helps. Enjoy!
