We're going to Victoria & Alberts for our anniversary. I have a few worries. Is tipping included in the bill and, is the restaurant dark? When we go to dimly lit places we're in trouble with reading the bill, menu etc. I always take little glasses just in case. I could just see us tipping when its already been included in the bill because we can't read the check.

While we're on the subject of V&A's, I'm a little nervous about clothes. We usually dress very casually - even when we go out to eat. I've got a black skirt with a glittery top that I think I'm going to wear. Will that be appropriate? I've gone shopping but just don't want to buy something I'll never wear again. Dh is fine - he has a suit to wear.

First of all, V&A is medium dark, but there should be sufficient light to read the menu. Anyway, the menu is to an extent a souvenier as your waiter and waitress will go over the menu in detail with you. The base price is $95 plus $6.17 tax without alcoholic beverages. Tip is not included in the bill.

As far as dress is concrned, anything from a nice pants suit on up. I have seen people there in black tie, but what you are thinking does not appear out of place.

About a month or so back there was a thread about what to wear to V&A.

Thank you Cheshire Figment. I just wanted to make sure tipping wasn't included. Last year we flew to Vegas to see O for our anniversary so this is actually saving us money! Tomorrow I'll run a search on the clothes' posts you mentioned.
