I mentioned this in the "official" thread but I only received one response....I am second guessing myself and I would like a few more opinions. Any CM's out there??

We are dressing as convicts and the kids costumes very long through the body. We decided that a belt would be easier than trying to have it fitted. Originally, we were thinking of a chain belt (like swing chain) with a clasp to close it (like a metal keg ring). I really like the idea ~ I think it goes with the "theme".

My DH is worried about the chain being considered a "weapon" and the CM's giving us a hard time. The plan B would be to use rope but I am afraid of it being scratchy on the girls arms and difficult to keep tied. It would also be a pain on the many bathroom trips. I am thinking if the chain is considered a weapon I guess a rope could be too??

So what do you think? Should we try the chain / rope / or use a traditional belt and forget the theme??

Good question, I'd like to know also! DH is being a pirate and he has a fake sword, hope that's ok!

If the chain is plastic fake chain like you get at novelty and costume shops, then you're fine. If you picked up real chain at the hardware store, then you might be asked to not wear it.

Being that they sell these fake swords at the POTC gift shop, I don't see a fake sword being a problem! :)

The fake plastic chain would probably be more comfortable anyway. The "real" chains can be heavy. I imagine you can still use the metal fastener to "buckle" it.

My family is going as pirates, too (my sisters family will be Captain Hook, Smee and Peter Pan and Tinkerbelle). What about a wooden sword, that we picked up at the Renaissance Festival? It's still a play weapon - I hope it's OK.

I'll leave my bosom dagger at home, though :teeth: !

thanks! Guess we'll get some plastic chain. The real thing would have been too easy :earseek: My DH bought a roll of swing chain for some "project" because he couldn't remember how many feet he needed. I thought I'd finally be able to use it....lol

Thanks everyone and have a Funtastic Day

so no grenade launcher and heat-seeking missiles? ;)

I saw a FANTASTIC replica of an old rusted WAYYY over built chain that came along with cuffs at the local drug store in their halloween display. They had a set of them around a floating ghostly goul.

Check around and see if you can find them, they looked great!

Here is a pic of somethign similar on Ebay (but without the cuffs)

Styrofoam Chain

thanks Quadman

That is very cool!! I will see what I can find. Thanks for mentioning it, didn't know there was such a thing!
