Hi,
I have a question about using a taxi to get back from the WDW parks, Universal, & DTD. On my solo trip (leaving tomorrow evening!) I am staying offsite and using their shuttles to get to/from the parks. But I just found out yesterday that they do not have shuttles going back from the parks on "event nights". Only when the normal park hours of closing. I have MNSSHP for one night and HHN for several nights planned- plus some DTD evenings on other nights. So I'm obviously going to be using a taxi almost every evening -if not all evenings- to get back to the hotel.

My question, since I live in rural small town Texas and have NEVER even been in a taxi (seriously) is this- is it hard to find a taxi to get a ride home late at night after these events and/or from DTD? I don't recall seeing taxis anywhere on my last trips when leaving the parks and such. If you have to call them- how do you call them from the parks & DTD- have to use a payphone? And if so, how do you get the phone number? I'm getting kinda worried about ending up stuck somewhere (or atleast for a long long time) without a way back to the hotel?

I know there are taxis at the main exit to Pleasure Island late at night. For MVMCP what I would do is exit and walk over to the Contemporay. The bell staff can get you a taxi. Not sure about Universal since I have only been there once.

If you find a driver you like get his phone number and just call him to come get you every time. If you tip well they really like this.

Have you thought about a rental car? This is why I don't like using off site shuttles.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I will not do a rental car. This is a solo trip with travelocity flight/hotel & premium annual pass I already had- in other words cheap as I can go. I'm splurging on the special events at WDW and Universal- but there's no way I'd pay for a rental car for 8 days. (we're going again in Nov/Dec as a family- this trip is an extra so that's why I'm trying to make it as cheap as possible).

I doubt (because of the aforementioned) that I'm going to tip "really well". I will tip adequately- but not excessively to get special favors. Trying to be frugal here.

You can walk to the contemporary from MK??? I didn't know this. Would it be safe to walk somewhere at midnight alone?

But that's a good idea I hadn't thought of. I could just as easily take the monorail to GF and have the front desk call me a cab- right? Is that considered "okay" to do or a "nono" with the WDW moral police? LOL

YOu may have already left, but just in case.

From MK to CR is an EASY safe walk. Just turn left coming out of MK and follow the Disney bricks to the CR. It is well lit and you walk just past the bus loading area.

I am afraid you may find "cabs" and frugal as incompatible. I don't know where you are staying, so I have no idea how far you are talking about, but..... I know that cabs in my town are expensive. For a 10 to 15 mile trip I plan on $25 to $30 in Nashville. Plus late at night most cities allow "surcharges". If you have time, you might want to post your planned routes and see if anyone has any idea what you can expect.

I would take the bus to the resort or Pleasure Island closest to the direction I was going and then call the cab.

There are plenty of reasons not to rent a car if you are not really enthusiastic about driving yourself, the hassle you get once in awhile about buying the rental coverages being one. But depending on time of year and checking frequently on Travelocity, you can get 8 days of rental for less than $200 including all the taxes but declining all the coverages. I am for late November.

Probably not a problem late at night, but for taxis in most cities, the meter keeps on ticking when you are stopped at a red light.

I was just down and found the taxis to be more expensive than a towncar (found that out on the way back to the airport). I used yellow cab down there for a trip to a golf course (non-disney) and was charged 25% more on the trip back than on the trip there. When I was talking to my driver from Tiffany Town car he quoted me a price that was less than the first taxi fair for the same trip. He also said that they do trips all around to and from disney, universal or any other event.

Try calling Tiffany Town Car and see if they can help you out.
Their web page is Tiffanytowncar.com I believe. Or you can find them by doing a search.
