? about taxis and wheelchair

Do all the local taxi companies have wheelchair accessible taxis and can you just call and request one of these instead of a regular one or do they need to be booked further ahead? Also does anyone know if they cost more than a regular taxi? I am trying to work out the cost of using taxis for offsite excursions versus a hire car.

I can't answer your question about taxis but we are using Premier Town Car service to take DH and I to Sea World with an ECV and to use their van round trip it is $70. We opted to use the van so we would not have to take the ECV apart and put it back together again and it was only a difference of $10.

Do a search on the Transportation board for "Alexander" (without the quotation marks). I have his card at work, but he and his wife drive van-taxis into which an ECV or wheelchair can be loaded with the passenger in it, and strapped in so the passenger doesn't have to move to a seat.

All taxi's have to charge the same price. You might have to wait an hour or more sometimes for one depending on how many are working at the time. So the more leadtime that you can give the better.

I have another three names to try:

'Vin' on 407-414-2522 he drives a van (Winstar I think) with ramp at the back and fold down rear seats for wheelchair or ECV.

'Khan's Trans' 407-973-4499. Wheelchair van as above. He has several regular wheelchair clients, so phone day before to check if he is available.

'Jack' (Cab#653) 321-961-3662. Name given to me by someone else on this board, but I have never used him.
