Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone would know if this is a doable situation....

If DH & I book using cash via DCL... and then add the girls (teens) using points later?

Just curious as how to use my points in 2008.

Thanks

I don't know about the DVC implications, but I have heard about people who could not ad children at a later time because the ship was full to capacity with kids. (even though their room was not at capacity.) Not sure how teenagers would fall in there, but I would try to make all your ressies at once.

Can't do it that way unless you're looking at separate cabins. You MIGHT be able to convert over to a points plus cash later but you'd change over to the MS system and lose your prices on the cash portion, likely paying more for the others. Also, you should add them up front as DCL will cut off once a certain number of kids and total people are reached even if you're cabin would handle more. Book the entire thing on cash then look to wee what it compares to through DVC. Decide what's best overall.

If you're looking at using your 2008 points, I don't think you'd be able to book now unless you borrowed them to the 2007 use year.

If you decide to use points, you'd have to pay for at least the first person on points. Then you can use cash to pay for additional. But you don't get the DCL or TA discounted rate, you get the DVC cash rate, which may or may not be cheaper. Usually it is not.

but we originally booked our September 2007 cruise directly through DCL. Well we decided to use points for my husband and myself (since I am pregnant through the end of the year and didn't want to "waste" them) and then pay cash for my daughter.

We did the calculations from when we took my daughter out of the picture via the DCL cruise website and when we added her in - this was around a 700.00 difference.

I called MS and they transferred my existing DCL reservation over and put myself and my husband down for points. I then paid for my daughter's reservation with CC - this price turned out to be pretty much the same as if we had added her on to the DCL cruise website. So for us, it didn't "cost" more cash to go through MS.

Now some will say that using your points for DCL is not the wisest choices and I tend to agree in terms of bottom dollar - but for my family needs/vacations and my current pregnancy it worked out well for us.

I do believe, though that the first "slot" on the cruise will be charged the full set of points regardless of age (so although teens are "cheaper" in points at least one person in the cabin must pay points for the first "adult" fare). I could be wrong on this.....

Definitely call and get all the points/cash answers before booking your cruise. We just bought DVC and thought since our only trip in 2007 is the 7 day land/sea plus adding three night resort stay (BC) at the end, it would be cheaper using our points. Pricing Poly out (rack), and tickets for cash, using the 4 night cruise with points and the three night resort stay at the end, we used 400 points (2 years) and only saved $700 off the cruise, which did not seem worth it in the end. Therefore, we are paying for it in cash, not points. We were told that because DCL does the land and sea package, that pricing is not available through MS. You have to price everything out separately (room/cruise/tickets) However, we were told that if we wanted to, we could pay for any combination of adults/children (ie: pay for the adults and use the points for the children; use points for the adults and pay for the children; pay for one adult and child, points for the other). Hope this helps.

You have to pay for one of the first two on the reservation with points but after than you can mix and match as you desire.
