Have a question for you guys who have experienced ABD with kids. What are the most favorable kid trip itineraries? Not opposed to going out of country with kids but also enjoy travel in the US. Is the ABD experience worth the added cost? Do you have recommendations booking directly vs using Dreams unlimited for example? Sorry for all the questions and yes I have left this broad as most of the itineraries look great. Thank you for your answers in advance.

I hear that the Wyoming trip is particularly nice for kids, but I haven't personally taken it (yet). The Arizona & Utah trip is pretty spectacular. Either of those would be a good starting point.

You don't say how old your kids are, or how much traveling they've done. I think that information would definitely help people to suggest trips for you.

Sayhello

Sorry. My son is 10 almost 11. My daughter is 8. They have been on the 7 day Fantasy cruise, traveled to San Antonio, Washington DC , Virginia, and throughout Florida. Great little travelers but want to make sure we don't bore them with adult things the whole time. Good mix for everyone. Thanks!

Your kids are a perfect age for ABD. Most of the kids ages are from 8 through teenagers 16 /17. The tours appeal to everyone and I have found that the kids bond really quickly and the tours are geared towards entertaining all ages. Food is never a question for the menu always takes the kids into account. On the buses the kids usually sit together and keep each other entertained if not watching the video on board. Our daughter in 13 now and has taken 4 ABD trips so far and loved everyone. She started at 9 with Alaska, 11 with Montana/Alberta, 12 with Arizona and 13 with the Germany trip. Each trip the kids groups made up almost half of the group total(s). The Grand Canyon / Arizona is a great trip IMO to start. ABD is a little more expensive than other trips but they do offer first class stays and resorts and the guides do go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect for your family. We have traveled with other tour companies and do think ABD is one of the finest tour groups we have traveled with. Any questions on these trips I would be happy to try to answer.

Great! Thanks for the info. I will read up on the trips mentioned and if I have any questions will definitely ask. I appreciate it!

We did the Scotland ABD when my kids were 9 and 11, and the Central Europe ABD when they were almost-10 and almost-12. They loved both trips. As others have said, I am happy to answer any questions.

We did Barcelona and the Med Cruise add-on when my daughter was 9, Wyoming when she was 10, and Costa Rica when she was 11. We loved every trip and she made life long friends, but when asked without a doubt she says Costa Rica was her favorite trip of her entire life. It was filled with great activities, looking for animals, white water rafting, ziplining, snorkeling. Highly recommend Costa Rica with kids!!:lovestruc

We did our first ABD trip this past August and were hooked. We decided on the Germany adventure because DD is 8 and loves fairytales and princesses; it seemed perfect for her. And I have to say that all our expectations were blown out of the water. Perfect doesn't seem to cover it. The guides are wonderful; they really go out of their way to make sure there are special touches (DH ended up feeling under the weather and a care package of tea sampling and what not was delivered to the room for him). DD had such a great time. ABD is a no stress way to travel abroad with kids. We are definitely doing it again.

Hi There,

We did the Backstage Magic tour in 2011 with our daughter who was 8 at the time. She LOVED it. She was the youngest in our group, but there were a couple other teens. The guides were also really great with them.

Also, we've traveled to London & Paris with our daughter when she was 10. I looked into ABD, but couldn't justify the cost. Everything on those trips we did on our own and there were other tour companies that offered similar tours.

I can't provide an opinion, though about the other international trips. I think if I was going to go outside of Europe (where English wasn't as common) I would want it to be an ABD if I was traveling with Kids. :)

We've gone on two trips with ABD: Ireland 2013 & Australia 2014. They are expensive, but we feel it was worth it. Our kids are off to college next year, so these may be the last family vacations we take for quite a while.

The activities appeal to families so the kids have lots of fun along with the parents. Everything runs super smoothly, the guides are great and they take lots of pictures of you and your family. The guides really seem to enjoy being with you on the trip. That makes a huge difference compared to some other tours we've been on.

It is a great way to build family memories. There is just enough time on your own so you don't feel like you are rushing here and there.

I see this a a few months old now, so you may have already made plans, but in case it's helpful, I would highly recommend ABD. We did our first (Scotland) last summer when my kids were 9 and 10. We enjoyed it so much we are going to do Ecuador and Galapagos this April. We booked through Costco and received $1900 in Costco gift card for calling through their number. You still deal directly with ABD agents.

We just got back on Saturday from our 3rd ABD. The first was China in 2012 when the kids were 9 and 10. 2nd was Italy in 2013 they were 10 and 11. This last one was South East Asia and the kids are now 11 and 13. And now the discussions are beginning over which one to take next.

Let me know if you need any more info regarding any of these trips

Would love to here about your South East Asia trip. We leave Friday for the same trip. Any travel tips would be appreciated!

For our alone night in Saigon, we ate at Hoa Tuc as recommended by Cousin Orville, it was awesome, a do-over if we ever visit Saigon again.

Crossing the roads - once the cars and vans are out of the way then just slowly and calmly walk across, the mopeds and bikes will magically weave around you - although it seems virtually impossible to begin with, once you've done it a couple of times it's a piece of cake

The Welcome Dinner at Eon 51 - don't go expecting gourmet food, you are there for the view mainly

The cooking class in Hoi An was really fun and the food was yummy

We took advantage of the laundry option provided by the guides in Hoi An, how she managed to get it all on her moped is still a mystery

The beach in Hoi An was destroyed by a typhoon that also hit the Philippines, they are rebuilding it but for now if you want to go to the beach you need to go out of the hotel and walk down a side path to get to it

We went on the optional visit to Marble Mountain and it was pretty awesome, we're very glad that we did it

In Laos at the Living Land Rice farm, beware of biting ants, whilst standing barefoot I got bitten pretty badly and am still itching and scratching even now - mind you i didn't go in the mud, perhaps if i had then i wouldn't of got bitten.

Although it's an early start, offering alms to the Monks is pretty special and worth getting up for.

Hope this helps, it's an awesome trip, not sure who will be your guides, we had Drew and Henry who were fantastic, if you have them say hi from Kerry, Steve Ben and Immy for us

Saigon was warm in the 80's
Hoi An was warmish 70's but it rained most of the time we were there , persistent drizzly rain
Hanoi was in the high 60's lo 70's

Luang Prabang was in the lo 70's but we were told that the week before it had been really cold like in the 50's

Siem Reap was in the 80's as well

So from where we live it was very pleasant, there was a family from Houston who found a couple of the days a bit cold
