I have chosen this lovely green color, as I'm guessing this to be the shade of Nikki's complexion as she enjoys her raw fish.

It's not really raw - it is smoked, like a lot of deli meats. Now what my Inuit friends eat, such as muktuk - THAT'S raw.

If we can get $2000 - I think the whole group of us should eat our bagel+cream cheese+lox!

Forgive me - I'm not around the boards as much as I'd like, so I'm perplexed by the lox thing. Is this just one of those play-along-because-it's-funny situations? I'm happy to make another gift to GKTW ... but I don't want anyone traumatized. I can't imagine Kevin being mean, though, so I'm guessing this is really as simple as it appears (i.e. Nikki doesn't like lox, so let's see if we can get her to eat it).

That said, it is the last day of the trip, right? So, if she's traumatized, it won't bring the whole trip down.

Hi Ally! It is actually explained on the First Giving page for the lox challenge. This all started a little over a year ago. I was in chat one night when Kevin mentioned lox, something I wasn't familiar with. The chatters explained that it was smoked salmon commonly eaten on a bagel. My reply? "Why on Earth would someone eat a fishy bagel?!" The teasing and on-going joke came from there.

A few weeks ago in chat, lox was brought up again. I was trying to come up with a creative GKTW fundraiser (Pete said to be creative, right?) and threw it out there that I'd take a bite for $800 donated and the entire bagel for $1K. And here we are now!! I honestly had no idea it was raw until yesterday. This is going to be interesting. I am a very picky eater. Just think your ABD trip has this added perk to it.

I bump her out of chat. I tease her about the things she doesnt eat. Well...actually...I tease her about everything.

In return, Nikki points out my typos. Teases me and wishes she had the power to bump me out of chat.

This is something she has volunteered to do as a fund raiser for GKTW and I applaud her efforts.

I'm going to tease her if she doesnt do it....I'm going to tease her if she does do it. It's really a win / win as far as I'm concerned.

If you brought it on yourself, I'm all for it! I figured it was just good, fishy fun, and that was the impression I got from the sticky thread and the discussion, but I wanted to make sure. And now find this to be quite funny. My traveling buddy and I will contribute, though she has no idea why, and look forward to seeing you overcome your food fears.

Question: In a year's worth of teasing, how did no one think to focus on the "raw" part of the equation? You'd think that would be prime teasing material.

I may have nightmares about muktuk myself. I think you should absolutely draw the line there.

Ya know, I have no idea. lol I am a very picky eater and always have been. I don't like fruit...at all. I won't eat things like rabbit, lamp, veal, etc. so something like this is huge. I'm actually surprised I enjoy places like Boma, Jiko, Chefs de France, and so on. You'd think I'd be in trouble there!
