ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

Fantastic ball pictures! I love how the dresses turned out - you all look stunning! I REALLY look forward to the Sci-Fi ball, and your costume creations for that one! :hyper:

As for the letter J: Jambo House and Jiko

So very sorry to hear about Lorie. Prayers are being said.

I think that's what they need more there, than anything else! Keep 'em coming!

Liesa, I completely forgot to comment on the ball dresses due to the tornado and things.

Wow (insert girlish squeal here!). Amazing dresses, just lovely! I'd have pretended that I was at Netherfield Hall if I were there! It looks like such a fun occasion. The dancing looks wonderful too. Did you all do dancing cards to line up your partners beforehand??

I did notice that some of the ladies weren't dressed quite as 'regency-ish' as others.;) I really love all of yours and your kids outfits.

A spit ball at the Ball?? Shocking! I'd have laughed very loudly and probably not acted very lady like!

Have you read The Count of Monte Cristo?? It's fabulous! There's an abridged and non-abridged version. The non-abridged was sooo good! A bit lengthy but good.:thumbsup2

I think you've mentioned that you're an Austen fan, yes? I just recently read a book called "A Walk with Jane Austen: A Journey into Adventure, Love and Faith". Such a great read, maybe you'd like it too?:goodvibes

Oh and here's my letter "J" guesses:

Actually, "dance cards" didn't become popular until the Victorian period from what I understand- think "Meet Me in St. Louis". And unless you were related for VERY close (having attachments) you wouldn't dance more than one, or at most 2 dances with the same lady.

Not everyone comes costumed, but as with most things in life, the more you put into it, the more you get out of it.

The afterparty is really for letting us let our hair down. It was such fun to just hang out over burgers and shakes!

I personally have not read the Count, but most of my kids have. I've see the movie, and that's enough for me for now... too busy for novel reading, and I'm trying to get through North and South by Elizabeth Gaskill right now.

I'd love to check out the one you're reccommending though for my kids, and me later this summer. I am definitely an Austen fan!

I forgot to comment on the spitball! If I were there, I would have said, "Great shot kid! That was one in a million!" (Glenn will know where that comes from)

Very sorry to hear about Lorie...did not know her, but that storm and this news is just devastating.

I knew it too!!! My son spouted it off too in about 2 nano seconds. Great stuff, dat.

Liesa, I really hope we get to skype sooner than later! :goodvibes I think I am just going through phases with my involvement in the DIS and not having a huge TR to write has made it possible to be less active. I think most people vary with how much time they spend here and that's generally a good thing. :goodvibes However, too many projects taking up your time can be not good... I have learned that I really need to schedule enough "free" weekends because I really need those days without any huge obligations to recharge after a week at work. And I am really looking forward to the next one which will be about buying plants for my balcony (Christmas present from my parents) and using my new barbecue (second part of Christmas present) for the first time! :cool1:

I'd try right now, but you're certainly asleep right now.

I am actually slower right now too, just too much going on. You're right, it's generally a good thing. I was off most of the day, and was amazed at how clean my house was!!! :lmao:

I do think I've over-booked myself this time, and it is stressful. But I'm confident that good memories will come from it. And I tend to over-do things as well. I guess that's one of the pitfalls of being Type A and anal about certain things. :confused3 I do pay for it sometimes, and am still learning how to keep things to a moderation. You'd think by 43 , I'd get it. :sad2:

funny, my day was all about buying seeds and starts of flowers (as well as groceries) today. My deck should be nice and colorful this summer!! :woohoo:

DUH!!! I knew that! Han Solo says it to Luke Skywalker when they blow up the Death Star. See I try to show up Glenn and answer too fast - LOL! I should know better!

I do love Top Gun by the way!

;)

I know the feeling.....I had some of those types of quick answers when Capt. O. had his game on his TR.

Ya, me too. It's the feeling I get when I spot a supposed Judy and it turns out to be James instead...:rolleyes1

Ahhh... more play on the playground!

Yeah, I saw Mary's FB post about this sad loss! Prayers being sent for those who knew Lorie (including family), Mary and all of those struggling with losses and trying to figure out what they will do next!!! Heard this morning that two people were struck by lightning who were doing rescue efforts...... so sad!

That's horrible!!!! How utterly tragic to have been helping and be killed!! True heroes! I need to call Mary again to see how she's doing. Thanks for the reminder, Marv.

I spotted 2 in his last Judy Do and he still hasn't admitted I was right !!!:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Give it up!!! It'll never happen , Rosie!! :lmao:

Fantastic ball pictures! I love how the dresses turned out - you all look stunning! I REALLY look forward to the Sci-Fi ball, and your costume creations for that one! :hyper:

As for the letter J:

Thanks, Brook! I'm glad the effort paid off and the girls could really learn something in the process! We went to the Goodwill today and Andrew started his Star Trek "uniform". Should be a fun one!

I didn't see any bad ones of you, but then again, I'm not really done getting them all onto my hard drive either :)

Oh there were.

That salami she brought was outstanding, and WOW, that hummus was to die for!!

I know! It was really good. I actually found the salami at one of our stores here. :)

I am so, so proud of you!!! YOU ROCK!!!

Thank you! :goodvibes

Millie- The picture of the flowers is beautiful! Looks like you all had a blast hanging out!

Thank you, we did. I meant to get on here and put more pics, but it just didn't work out. Sorry everyone.

BTW, did anyone just see on the NBC news where they interviewed a lady who was on the way home to Joplin, MO from Disney World when the tornadoes hit and they arrived home to find their home destroyed??? So very sad to leave your happy place and get back home to such destruction... :sad1:

I didn't see that, but I was going to mention Mary's friend Lori and her hubby, they just got back the Sat. before from Disney. Her second to the last post was about how she, the dogs and hubby were hunkering down to ride out the storm, then her last words on FB were "Oh my word." I have a lot of distant family there, I don't know if any of them are okay. :confused3

Please continue to pray for Joplin and for Mary who is rather shaken up over this. It's been a tough spring for her, on top of this.

Our DISFamily is one short today and always without Lorie!

It broke my heart to hear her so upset that night.

Thanks for posting this. I'm from 150 miles north of Joplin (live in Colorado now) and I can't believe the devastation--the town I knew is no more. I pray for all the families that were touched by this tragedy.

Jill in CO

I know just what you mean Jill, my mom was born there and we have a lot of family there. That place will never be the same. :sad2:

I was getting to thinking about, and couldn't help but to really meditate a bit on how hard it would be and so shocking and weird it would be to suddenly lose one of the regulars around here- for them to just suddenly go away? It's just too horribly to think about!

Tell me about it. After the call from Mary I tried to put myself in her shoes with one of y'all. I couldn't do it....it was just to hard to think about losing one of you. Okay, stopping now....:sad1: I can't talk about it without it making me emotional.

Such a sad thing with Lorie, but actually that was my first thought when I heard about the tornado in the morning - is any of my Disfriends living in this area? You all brought me the US much closer! It's not a random anonymous place anymore :)

I'm so glad your apart of this family. My sister (the pain in the butt that she is) is up in the Dallas area and there were several tornado's there today. Please everyone, pray for her.

When I tell people about my DIS Friends, their eyes glaze over, and I pretty much immediately lose them... but it's ok, we know what we have, and that's what's important.

That's okay, you have plenty of us here who get it. And yes, I think we all know what we have.

Looking at the pictures from Joplin sadden me to no end- have you heard that audio clip from the convenience store? Heart wrenching!! :scared1: Everyone around here has said we've had the coldest/wettest spring to date due to a "La Nina" year. And that's supposed to "end" on May 26th?? Who knows... I know I"m just tired of the whacky weather!

I know! The audio had me in tears, I can only imagine the devistation and exhilaration they felt when they came out. The big walk-in fridge they went into was the only thing standing from the building they ran into.

funny, my day was all about buying seeds and starts of flowers (as well as groceries) today. My deck should be nice and colorful this summer!! :woohoo

I can't wait to see them!!

That's horrible!!!! How utterly tragic to have been helping and be killed!! True heroes! I need to call Mary again to see how she's doing.

I talked with her several times this evening, she's doing good. Mary's our resident weather girl for the Dis and if she knows of anyone in the path she will warn us. :goodvibes She called to tell me about the weather in Dallas. My sister in Dallas is okay, just texted with her, she finally had sense enough to get out of the weather since her car was really rocking and transformers were blowing out all around her. She said she hunkered down in a church (that just happened to be open) until it passed over them, praise the Lord! :worship:

Forgot about J.....Jambo house, those are the warrior shields that are apart of the lights. Jiko's isn't but a two minute walk from there. :goodvibes

I'd try right now, but you're certainly asleep right now.

I was actually awake at 6:16 am (the time of your post), can't sleep in the mornings at the moment, too bright outside. But I would have been very surprised if my phone had started to ring at that time of the day. :lmao:

funny, my day was all about buying seeds and starts of flowers (as well as groceries) today. My deck should be nice and colorful this summer!! :woohoo:

When I first read this paragraph, I misread "deck" and read "desk" instead and was really wondering why all your flowers would be on your desl... :rotfl:

Here in Germany we have a few days which are called the "ice saints". Since Catholics have one (or more) saints assigned to each day of the year, a day would often be named by the saint's name. I think you have it also with St John's? Well, the days from May 11 to May 15 are the so called ice saints, the names for the days are Mamertus, Pankratius, Servatius, Bonifatius and Sophie. Nothing icy about the saints themselves, but according to tradition these are the last days of the year when you can expect night frost. And modern meteorological research has shown that this is a very typical weathe pattern for Central Europe. So, here in Germany the rule is: never plant anything outside before the ice saints. :goodvibes

That is like what we say here in the mountains - since it is predicted to snow in 2 days - heading into Memorial Day weekend, we always say, "never plant anything before Memorial Day." Our flower beds are quite empty except for the tulips and daffodils, which are about done blooming.

Scary words but so true. There have been times when I've been talking to regulars on my TRs/PTRs and suddenly they just disappear. I always wonder if they just don't feel like coming back after they go on a trip or what exactly happens to them.

All these tornadoes going on makes me worry so much about people south of the border. I hope all who are close to this awful weather is safe and sound :grouphug:

Great pics on the Ball. The dresses are beautiful. Great Work Liesa! This Sci-Fi ball, It's not also referred to as a Shindig is it?

I know I've reference the television so Firefly before and I know you've said you having seen it. But, you should really check it out, specifically the episode entitles "The Shindig" I think you'll find it entertaining. There also a character who's name is VERY similar to one of your kids.

Ahhh... more play on the playground!

Sorry we hijacked there for a little! :flower3:

We went to the Goodwill today and Andrew started his Star Trek "uniform". Should be a fun one!

Can't wait to see the Star Trek "uniform!" ST:TNG was one of my fave shows!

SNOW?!?! Wow...I'm sure the mountains are beautiful, but :scared1:

We are still skiing here in Colorado. Aspen is reopening for Memorial Day weekend skiiing and other resorts may stay open through July. One of my engineers went this weekend and said its better powder than it was this winter!

Caught up once again.

Cracking up over the lucky shot with the pea shooter.

That's a riot!

Was a few days and several pages behind. Had my youngest sons high graduation and his open house this past weekend. That kept me busy for a few days, getting ready for it and getting through it.

This weekend was also my 3 month anniversary of my transplant. All is well, thanks, for asking! The last 2 weeks I've finally been reduced to doing labs once a week instead of twice a week. The hospital I've been going to for labs is 45 minutes away, so cutting down trips is a plus. Next week I get to start going to one closer to home....only about 20-25 minutes away. I could have started this week but I had to do a sonogram this week. That also was all good and my medicines been adjusted for a couple weeks, so I think I'm finally on that straight path of this roller coaster ride I've been on.

Your costumes looked great....and I just absolutely loved the girls pictures by the window.....gorgeous!!

Now for my letter J guess. Jambo house and jiko. My first thought was Johari but that is over at kidani and that is a little more than a 2 minute walk!

I didn't see that, but I was going to mention Mary's friend Lori and her hubby, they just got back the Sat. before from Disney. Her second to the last post was about her and her dh and doggies were hunkering down and then her last words on FB were "Oh my word." I have a lot of distant family there, I don't know if any of them are okay. :confused3

that is chilling!

It broke my heart to hear her so upset that night.

If anyone thinks of her, I know she'd love your continued prayers.... lots of personal things going on that is shaking her world.

I just saw a post on mary's FB of one on the Dallas tarmac!! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I know! The audio had me in tears, I can only imagine the devistation and exhilaration they felt when they came out. The big walk-in fridge they went into was the only thing standing from the building they ran into.

It's amazing anyone in there survived at all!!!

Normally we don't close our curtains to sleep, but about 3 weeks ago, we had to start. Although I really love to roll over and see the river first thing, it's just too bright in the morning now.

Actually, I do have a bouquet of flowers on my desk- lilacs at the moment! They smell amazing!!!!! Until this party is over on Saturday, I can't garden anhymore. In fact, I won't even be on here anymore until then either. But, I LOVED hearing about the advice given about the Saints and how the calendar is referred to by them. very interesting!

That is like what we say here in the mountains - since it is predicted to snow in 2 days - heading into Memorial Day weekend, we always say, "never plant anything before Memorial Day." Our flower beds are quite empty except for the tulips and daffodils, which are about done blooming.

The snow level is going down to 3,500 ft. by tomorrow up here as well. WAY too cold for my taste at Memorial DAY!!! YUCK!!!

I am the same way. I have a running list of MIAs in my head from this thread as well.... Wings, Sophia, Shannn, and a whole bunch of others have just disappeared!!!

Ummm.... no, it's not called a shindig, but apparently, I needed to watch Firefly. :confused3 I'll have to look into that!

Love Firefly!!!!

Now you really have me curious!

Sorry we hijacked there for a little! :flower3:

Can't wait to see the Star Trek "uniform!" ST:TNG was one of my fave shows!

Isn't that what this thread is for?? :lmao:

Mine too! Jean Luc was simply HOT!!!

SNOW?!?! Wow...I'm sure the mountains are beautiful, but :scared1:

In terms of beautiful, a little bit goes a long way!!
