ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

I saw our dear Mary's :grouphug: FB post early this morning and was stunned. I immediately went to check Lori's wall and inadvertently unfriended her - I am so grateful for the updates posted.

My heart and prayer go out to Lorie and Glenn's family at this time of tragedy. I knew Lorie too - we met at Mousefest a couple of times. She was such a kind person, always a ready smile. She will be so missed.

This morning I posted the news on the POP FAQ's thread (I co-host that thread) as Lorie was a well known poster there - she often stayed at POP on her solo trips and was always helpful to those asking questions.

RIP+ dear Lorie and Glenn.

(I don't know if Marv mentioned the Memorial Meet at 8:30 p.m. in Italy at EPCOT on June 3 before IllumiNations to toast Lorie and Glenn. Here is the quote from Passporters:

Thank you for posting this - I think having an online memorial for her is comforting - it does remind me of Mumbling Jumba - him and his wife posted on the Dis often (she did the whole Peep thread where she bombed a coworkers office with peeps, hiding peeps, etc - Some still have his words in their signature = "I do not intend to tiptoe through life only to arrive safely at death" He was young)

I know this medium is supposed to be "virtual" Virtual world, Virtual friends... it is hard to explain to people who arent involved.

J Guess:

At first I was a bit dumbfounded... I looked at the picture and had NO idea! But after some digging, I can say that it is of Jambo House at AKL and nearby is Jiko. Phew!

Oh my goodness.... I am so sorry to here about a fellow DIS member Lorie. What a horific thing to happen! I am so sorry for there loss.

This has been a weird Tornado season. They estimate that the average amount of them is close to 500 in a season and so far there have been reports of over 1000! :scared1: The south has been hit especially hard. I pray for everyone who has been affected by this.

J Guess - Jambo House and Jinko Yup hand to figure that one out too

Well I think Christine would be mad if I didn't guess this
So my guess is

Glad you got your guess in this round, Rosie!!

Here's a friendly HELLO, Kim!!!

I was so sorry to hear about Lori. I'll be praying for Mary and for Lori's family. I always wonder who might be involved in these things - we know so many from the "storm belt" areas here in the DIS...

I love to look at everyone's info to see where they're from and you're right, there really does seem to be quite a few from tornado alley. Sometimes I worry about my own family living in Kentucky when these nasty cells pop up. There've MANY times I've been on the phone when the sirens have gone off, and I've spent the next hour worrying about my son and other family there. Spring can end none too soon for that area!

Hi Liesa! I don't even know when I last commented on anything on your thread. :sad2: But I truly enjoyed reading about the DIS meet and the ball. In the DIS meet pictures I noticed one picture where everyone is seated around your dining table with the blue wallpaper in the background and a blue table cloth and a lot of people wearing blue. It all matched perfectly and I really liked the wallpaper in that picture! :goodvibes

I am very sorry to hear about the disaster in Missouri and especially Lorie. I hope everyone affected who was lucky to survive will be able to rebuilt their lives.

And as for J:

It has been a long while since I've seen you here; yet on the other hand, I'm dreadfully behind on your thread as well.... I am frustrated that this spring has been so busy for me. I try so hard to keep my life simple and sadly I've let it get out of control with too many things stacked up that require a big time commitment: the play that my girls are in, the Ball (the sewing part of it), and the party that's a pretty large affair. After that comes camping trips and a VERY possible trip to California to visit my aunt who is terminally ill and Disney thrown in for good measure. (DLR) So, I will be sparse around here, and struggling to keep caught up; however, I really want to skype you soon! I finally got it installed on my "new" laptop (post-crash) and just need to test it from a Starbucks or such.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone would comment on my wallpaper. :scared1: I have decided on what I want to go with, but am hoping a friend, if not a local one who is amazing at decorating, then Cynthia, whom I also deem to have great taste, will come over and consult with me on a direction to go with the room. With the large windows facing the river, I want to play off the natural theme and go with a textured linen with a soft green paint over it. But that's down the road a bit. Meantime, my kids will remain happy with what's up- they all love it.

I missed "I" but I am here for "J" which I actually knew where it was right away. My guess is

I love the pictures from your ball, so pretty. The straw story had me :lmao:.

Great that you are still here with us!!

Wasn't that funny? Sheesh the things kids do today... :lmao:

Guesses are Jambo and Jiko

I am so saddened by the news of Lorie. I didn't know her either but what a lovely tribute to have planned. The devastation is mind boggling at times.

I totally know what you mean,Sandy! When you disappeared from our midst, I missed you!! I wondered if everything was ok in your "real life" and hoped things were going ok for you. It IS reality that we are all good friends, who connect mostly on here- but it goes beyond that. Many of those who post on here are the people I talk with on the phone, and even get to see occassionally. It would be a sad day in my life without a doubt to lose any of you!!!

When I tell people about my DIS Friends, their eyes glaze over, and I pretty much immediately lose them... but it's ok, we know what we have, and that's what's important.

Looking at the pictures from Joplin sadden me to no end- have you heard that audio clip from the convenience store? Heart wrenching!! :scared1: Everyone around here has said we've had the coldest/wettest spring to date due to a "La Nina" year. And that's supposed to "end" on May 26th?? Who knows... I know I"m just tired of the whacky weather!

Liesa, I completely forgot to comment on the ball dresses due to the tornado and things.

Wow (insert girlish squeal here!). Amazing dresses, just lovely! I'd have pretended that I was at Netherfield Hall if I were there! It looks like such a fun occasion. The dancing looks wonderful too. Did you all do dancing cards to line up your partners beforehand??

I did notice that some of the ladies weren't dressed quite as 'regency-ish' as others.;) I really love all of yours and your kids outfits.

A spit ball at the Ball?? Shocking! I'd have laughed very loudly and probably not acted very lady like!

Have you read The Count of Monte Cristo?? It's fabulous! There's an abridged and non-abridged version. The non-abridged was sooo good! A bit lengthy but good.:thumbsup2

I think you've mentioned that you're an Austen fan, yes? I just recently read a book called "A Walk with Jane Austen: A Journey into Adventure, Love and Faith". Such a great read, maybe you'd like it too?:goodvibes

Oh and here's my letter "J" guesses:

Jambo House and Jiko

I forgot to comment on the spitball! If I were there, I would have said, "Great shot kid! That was one in a million!" (Glenn will know where that comes from)

Very sorry to hear about Lorie...did not know her, but that storm and this news is just devastating.

Top Gun :thumbsup2

Liesa, I really hope we get to skype sooner than later! :goodvibes I think I am just going through phases with my involvement in the DIS and not having a huge TR to write has made it possible to be less active. I think most people vary with how much time they spend here and that's generally a good thing. :goodvibes However, too many projects taking up your time can be not good... I have learned that I really need to schedule enough "free" weekends because I really need those days without any huge obligations to recharge after a week at work. And I am really looking forward to the next one which will be about buying plants for my balcony (Christmas present from my parents) and using my new barbecue (second part of Christmas present) for the first time! :cool1:

:thumbsup2 Awesome movie! It's one of those ones I always seem to watch whenever it's on tv, I suppose I should just buy it! My favorite clip is "I feel the need, the need for speed!"

Nope, it's from "Star Wars" (the original, ie. episode 4). :)

+1 :thumbsup2 (sorry Jen)

DUH!!! I knew that! Han Solo says it to Luke Skywalker when they blow up the Death Star. See I try to show up Glenn and answer too fast - LOL! I should know better!

I do love Top Gun by the way!

;)

I know the feeling.....I had some of those types of quick answers when Capt. O. had his game on his TR.

Hi Marv,

I was saving replies for this evening while my girls are in play practice, but I had to comment on this. Not only was this a story, but one of our DISFamily actually died in that tornado!!!! Her name was Lorie Holland- I am getting this info. from our own Mary, who called me in tears last night. Mary had actually met Lorie through the poscast bunch, and has a picuture of the two of them together on her FB page. Please continue to pray for Joplin and for Mary who is rather shaken up over this. It's been a tough spring for her, on top of this.

Our DISFamily is one short today and always without Lorie!
Yeah, I saw Mary's FB post about this sad loss! Prayers being sent for those who knew Lorie (including family), Mary and all of those struggling with losses and trying to figure out what they will do next!!! Heard this morning that two people were struck by lightning who were doing rescue efforts...... so sad!
