ABCs of Trip Reporting, Pt. 2-Life Can Be Crappy and Then You Move On (3/7)

I think even I actually know where that picture was taken. So that means its real easy! :rotfl:

Anyhow - I love the pictures from the ball. It looks like such a fun evening! Of course, the whole spit ball thing is a bit gross only cause I can totally see that happening. My kids went through a spit ball phase. Oh yeah - fun!

Here are my guess to "J".. Jambo House at AKL and Jiko

It looks like you all had a great time at the ball!!!

First of all, beautiful dresses. The ball looked like it was a blast! And your daughter's party sounds like it will be wonderful, as well. Oh, and I have a guess this time: Jambo House and Jiko!

I didn't have a clue what your "J" picture was, but fortunately Jon and Drew blurted out the answer as soon as they saw the picture...... ;)

That is a picture of the shields that are part of the lights in the lobby of Jambo House, and if you head downstairs searching for a great place to eat, you will find Boma, which we have eaten at a couple of times. But since that doesn't start with a J, you have to walk nearby to another restaurant named Jiko, which we haven't managed to eat at yet. Maybe we will make it there one day before long.

BTW, did anyone just see on the NBC news where they interviewed a lady who was on the way home to Joplin, MO from Disney World when the tornadoes hit and they arrived home to find their home destroyed??? So very sad to leave your happy place and get back home to such destruction... :sad1:

Hi Marv,

I was saving replies for this evening while my girls are in play practice, but I had to comment on this. Not only was this a story, but one of our DISFamily actually died in that tornado!!!! Her name was Lorie Holland- I am getting this info. from our own Mary, who called me in tears last night. Mary had actually met Lorie through the poscast bunch, and has a picuture of the two of them together on her FB page. Please continue to pray for Joplin and for Mary who is rather shaken up over this. It's been a tough spring for her, on top of this.

Our DISFamily is one short today and always without Lorie!

Oh my goodness! How terrible and so very sad. I saw the devastation of that tornado online today. The path of destruction was truly shocking. I'm so sorry to hear about Lorie.

Mary, if you're reading this, I'm thinking of and praying for you! You seem like such a caring, sweet woman and I'm sure this has been hard for you. Hang in there.

Thanks for posting this. I'm from 150 miles north of Joplin (live in Colorado now) and I can't believe the devastation--the town I knew is no more. I pray for all the families that were touched by this tragedy.

I saw our dear Mary's :grouphug: FB post early this morning and was stunned. I immediately went to check Lori's wall and inadvertently unfriended her - I am so grateful for the updates posted.

My heart and prayer go out to Lorie and Glenn's family at this time of tragedy. I knew Lorie too - we met at Mousefest a couple of times. She was such a kind person, always a ready smile. She will be so missed.

This morning I posted the news on the POP FAQ's thread (I co-host that thread) as Lorie was a well known poster there - she often stayed at POP on her solo trips and was always helpful to those asking questions.

RIP+ dear Lorie and Glenn.

(I don't know if Marv mentioned the Memorial Meet at 8:30 p.m. in Italy at EPCOT on June 3 before IllumiNations to toast Lorie and Glenn. Here is the quote from Passporters:

"If you would like to attend a PassPorter meet, please join me in Italy at 8:30pm Friday June 3.

I want to raise a glass in toast to Lorie and Glenn before Illuminations.

Update: We will be doing the toast at 8:45pm, giving people plenty of time to get there, or log on."

I'm so sorry to read this. I didn't know Lorie, but this is very sad news.

Thanks EVERYONE for their guesses! I won't respond individually tonight so I can get to a couple more threads...

Great pictures of the ball, as always Liesa. Everyone always looks like they're really enjoying themselves at those.

Thanks, Glenn!! We always have a nice time!

Nice job on the gowns, Liesa! I'm sure everyone had a great time.

Guess for J:

We did, Mark. Thanks! I think we'll get a lot of mileage out of the dresses, as there will be more balls to come.

oops sorry - this isnt Foodnetwork then? [/B]Have you checked out this fun site food network humor dot com? :rotfl2: they also started a website (look at the top, its red starred out here - kinda like "darn" you autocorrect - but be forewarned, when you read texts that were "auto correct" fail - they are HILARIOUS - seriously PIMP hilarity!

http://damnyouautocorrect.com/

I'll have to take a look at that, Sandy! Sounds funny!

Love the ball update! Your kids look like they belong in that century - not just the costumes, but the body language in the dances! (well, at least what I've seen in movies:goodvibes) Andrew looks so much like Mike! The portraits of the girls are beautiful! I'm glad you all had so much fun - the straw incident was :lmao: I can't wait to see the Sci-Fi ball! Trekkies Unite!!!

The girls do really love all the period films and love to "play the part". I love the portraits by the window especially!

Our family totally was thinking of going as the Trekkie Family- Balana, Janeway, Tuvak, etc...

I think even I actually know where that picture was taken. So that means its real easy! :rotfl:

It was intentionallly easy this time! I'll bet you even have a few pix of those lights yourself. :confused3

IT was totally gross, and TOTALLY funny!! :lmao:

First of all, beautiful dresses. The ball looked like it was a blast! And your daughter's party sounds like it will be wonderful, as well. Oh, and I have a guess this time:

I do hope the party will turn out well- I spent a fair amount of time at Michael's today, where I dumped a small fortune... as always.

good thing your boys came to the rescue!! Probabaly saved you a trip to the old basement! :lmao:

It was incredibly sad to hear this for me too! Stunning really to know that Mary even knew her!

The pictures are truly amazing! Such horrible destruction and devastation.

Thanks for posting this Christine! Truly it is hard to lose such a warm and caring person that you actually had met and knew. I hadn't realizied her husband also was killed.

I'm so sorry to read this. I didn't know Lorie, but this is very sad news.

I was getting to thinking about, and couldn't help but to really meditate a bit on how hard it would be and so shocking and weird it would be to suddenly lose one of the regulars around here- for them to just suddenly go away? It's just too horribly to think about!

Well I think Christine would be mad if I didn't guess this
So my guess is Jambo house at AKL and seeing as JIKO is at AKL too although I don't know how many mins from Jambo it is !!!!

Great pictures of the ball! But I saw several people not wearing costumes - so you don't have to wear them to attend?

My guess: Jambo House of AKL and Jiko - the eating place, or was it cooking place?

Such a sad thing with Lorie, but actually that was my first thought when I heard about the tornado in the morning - is any of my Disfriends living in this area? You all brought me the US much closer! It's not a random anonymous place anymore :)

I thought one of you very observant ladies would notice that, and it's funny you should ask...

About the time our family started going, the demographics of the group really went through a change. The invitees started to snowball, and quite a few started coming who don't tend to really engage in the period-correctness of it. While some of us see it as a way of learning a lot of skills (sewing, costuming, history, theater, etc...) many who are newer don't. They only come to dance, and that's fine. Officially, the person who started the group says that, "costumes are encouraged".

Also, to really do a costume well, it does take some money and A LOT of time. There have been balls where we just didn't have a lot of either, so went in a less fancy way too. The point is to have fun, and some of us see it as WAY more fun, if you put more time and effort into the event, and make it more than just only the 3 hours that evening. For example, the official theme of this ball was the "Count of Monte Cristo Ball" so we got a big group last weekend together to watch the movie, and several of my kids read the book as well.

I agree that the world is a little bit smaller when you have internet friends. Seems like naturally you would think of those you might be networked too in the event of something like this. I would instantly think of you two if I'd heard news come out of either Berlin or Nuremberg.

I was so sorry to hear about Lori. I'll be praying for Mary and for Lori's family. I always wonder who might be involved in these things - we know so many from the "storm belt" areas here in the DIS. It is so hard to see so much destruction. :sad2:

Hi Liesa! I don't even know when I last commented on anything on your thread. :sad2: But I truly enjoyed reading about the DIS meet and the ball. In the DIS meet pictures I noticed one picture where everyone is seated around your dining table with the blue wallpaper in the background and a blue table cloth and a lot of people wearing blue. It all matched perfectly and I really liked the wallpaper in that picture! :goodvibes

I am very sorry to hear about the disaster in Missouri and especially Lorie. I hope everyone affected who was lucky to survive will be able to rebuilt their lives.

And as for J: Jambo House lobby and Jiko

I missed "I" but I am here for "J" which I actually knew where it was right away. My guess is Jambo and Jiko

I love the pictures from your ball, so pretty. The straw story had me :lmao:.
