ABC Commisary at MGM

I usually try to keep my complaints to myself but not this time. We were in Disney last week and spent one day in MGM. At lunch time we decided that we would eat lighter and just grab a burger at the ABC Commisary. The experience was terrible. First, while the lines were only about 6 people deep at each register, it too nearly 30 minutes to order and get our food. The Disney Dining Plan creates a game of 20 questions for each person at the register and causes huge delays, but that is fine, I understand that when you go to Disney lines are part of the process and can accept that. What I cannot accept is the garbage that Disney is passing off as food in many of these counter service spots. After paying $40 for three cheeseburgers, a kids meal, fries and drinks, I get back to the table with tastless, bland food that no one in my party could finished. I then began to look around and watched the people taking their trays to the trash cans and I noticed how many unfinished meals people were throwing away. There is no excuse for Disney to be serving such a poor quality of food for the price they charge. If this is the best that they can do then they should go hire someone from Wendy's of McDonald's that can educate them on handling large groups of people while maintaining some consistancey in quality.

Okay, I'm done now.

You know, we are a family that is very easy to please. But ABC Commisary is the ONLY place that I really, really hated too. That cheeseburger was the worst I have ever eaten. I should have thrown it away too. I typically love Disney food, but not this place. And that was 2 years ago, I can't believe it hasn't changed.

I totally understand your complaints about ABC Comm. For year, we ate there and had no complaints. Then, in June, 2005, we got horrible service and greasy gross food. Thinking that it was just a fluke, we tried it again in June, 2006. It was just as yucky then. When we visited in June, 2007, we didn't even consider the ABC Comm.

My family is like the previous poster, we aren't hard to please. We know not to expect gourmet meals at any counter service restaurant but the ABC has been banned from our list.

Me too and I am not a CS snob. Pizzafari and Columbia Harbour House are two of my "must eat" places, but the ABC meal wasn't very good. No one in our party could even finish it.

I have eaten there on a few different occasions (January 2007 and October 2007). Both times, my fiance and I ordered the same thing:

Him: Chicken Curry
Me: 1/2 Cuban and fries

and we usually split a kids meal consisting of nuggets, fries and a cookie.

Both times, the food has been fine. Granted, the lines were very long...the people in front of us ordering seemed like morons who had never ordered food before. Tables were hard to come by which is why I sent DF to get a table while I waited 20 minutes in line, which was a good idea. We had a table and were eating immediately and I noticed TONS of people just standing around holding their trays waiting for tables to open up.

It's unfortunate the Commissary has not improved. I ate there about 4 years ago and the chicken sandwich/cheeseburger my mom and I ordered was ridiculously dry. We had to constantly drink water just to swallow.

I'm glad I saw this prior to our trip, this is one restaurant we never seem to go to, although we walk by it. We were going to try it next month, thanks for letting us know to pass!

I would have to agree....I did not like the Commisary.
I had the Curry Chicken and I usually like curry....could not stomach this stuff. Dh said his was a little better (cuban). But not all that great!

we ate there before we did the festival of lights on the only night we were having counter service. I have said a million times that MGM is not known for their counter service and they did not let us down...It was horrible as usual! I kno't know what it is about CS at MGM. Bad planning on our part but we were expecting back food before we go there so we were not let down.....any further:sad1:

My two DSs and I ate at the ABC Commissary last October. We were there for the first day of the Year of a Million Dreams. I had just said to my son that I would love to win something.

After we ordered our food, the cashier informed us that we were YOMD winners and that we had won three free desserts!! I thought great!! So we each picked one of the three desserts on the menu. I can't remember all the desserts we picked, I can only remember the flan.

But what I do remember is they did not taste good at all. And I am a girl that never throws away dessert :rotfl: Very disappointed!!!

By the way, lunch was very bland burgers and dry fries. Would not go back.

We were there last February. The cuban was okay---not really a real cuban, but a decent sandwich that was neither a burger nor a grilled/fried slab of chicken. Others in the party claimed the curry was pretty good. I tend to eat early, so crowds are usually manageable, but I recall this place being slow.

I'd call it serviceable.

I thought the fish and chips I had at ABC were very good, so did my mom.

For the most part, the Studios is not a great place to eat any meal. Try a resort restaurant on a day you are going to the studios:earsboy:

We have the fish and chips and always find them to be fresh and tasty.
The hummus wrap and the veggie lo mein are our favorites.

My family and I enjoy the ABC Commisary, however I guess you call it different strokes for different folks in this situation. I do agree with you about getting stuck behind some guests who are not sure how the DDP works, since that happened to us while we were there last August. Although there is nothing we can do about that so we got to wait our turn.

I've eaten there for the past two years on my MGM days. Both times I got the Cuban and found it edible. Nothing to write home about ... but I found it a decent alternative to all the burgers, pizza, and chicken fingers.

As others have said, MGM is probably the roughest park for lunch, but I'd hit ABC again when compared to the other choices in the park

It appears that the ABC Commissary hasn't changed in the 3 years since we last ate there. It goes down in history as our worst dining experience at WDW. The food and counter service were deplorable.

IMO, MGM has the worst counter service restaurants in all of Disney. My experiences at ABC Commissary have been hit or miss.

ABC has NEVER been good. I try it about once every three years... just in case.... but I've been disappointed every time.

We must say ABC Commissary maintains consistent standards for at least a decade....and their trash cans are always full and heavy.

During our last trip I felt sorry for all the individuals I observed walking into this restaurant to dine:eek:
