OK, please don't slam me on this....

Is there anyone else out there who can't stand the abbreviations?

Couldn't people take the two additional seconds it takes to type "Magic Kingdom" instead of "MK?" It just really smacks of laziness to me. I understand that some people have difficulty typing. I call it lazy because they're just not putting the effort. I'm a HORRIBLE speller. But I go to the effort to double-check the words at dictionary.com before making a post.

But what really bugs me isn't the people who use one per post. It's the stuff that I can't even read because it's all two letter codes!

"Hi! DH, DD, DS, DGGM and I spent the day at DHS. DH stayed in bed at CBR after a bad experience on MS. It was great! We started out with GMR after getting a FP for TOT. IIRC, DS was dying to get to EE at DAK, but we made him wait until after lunch at 5PTC."

Gaaaaa!!!!! Maybe I'm just too old, but it's a struggle for me to read that stuff. I usually don't bother. As a result, someone's message is lost.

I understand how this may be important when sending a text message. But come on! There's no urgency in your post here, and I'm guessing you're not being charged per word either.

OK... that's my rant. Again, please don't slam me. I love these boards and I'll prob. still read if it's all abbrev.'s.

Yes, but it takes 2 WHOLE SECONDS longer to type out "Magic Kingdom"!! Every second counts here on the DIS. I'm not really sure why, but it does!! :rotfl: Just kidding. It is often difficult for me to figure out what some of the abbreviations mean, but I must admit that I've been guilty of using some of them myself. In this world of excessive texting, using these abbreviations have become the norm. *sigh* Since the abbreviation fever is probably not going to go away any time soon, I suggest that you keep the abbreviation page open while you're on the DIS. It may help to make DISing a little more tolerable for you. Hang in there. Here's the link:

No slam here, but this is more of a CB--I mean Community Board-- topic so I am moving it there. :teeth:

No slam taken.... I guess I'm guilty of laziness myself... I figured there was probably a better place for the post, but didn't actually look! I usually start with that board and end up staying there a lot.

TFTTTTMI! Thanks for taking the time to move it!

It can get annoying when overused, but I don't think it's laziness. It's the lexicon of like-minded people — just as doctors talk a certain way, and computer scientists, and people who knit or sew. It builds community and is a short-cut to communication among people are have a common interest. KWIM? :)
