Abandoned Attractions

Personally, I think Tomorrowland Indy Speedway would make a wonderful addition to the list of abandoned attractions... :)

What, you don't like the smell of fuel and lawnmower-like sounds that invade parts of Tomorrowland, Fantasyland and Toontown?

;)

I agree and they should bring back 20,000 leagues but make it a Nemo ride like in DL; also I brought it up on another thread, and I'm sure it was mentioned already, but Kitchen Kaberet at Epcot.

I almost forgot, the original and one and only Tiki Room; the UNM one stinks

I did that for an ADR to Coral Reef, back in '87. We got to sit right by the glass... awesome! :thumbsup2 I had an early copy of UG which told me I could use the "TVs" to connect to guest services and make ADRs. Pretty much everybody would enter the park, head straight to SE, ride it, then walk right past the "TVs" and out the doors. :lmao: I guess maybe that's why they got rid of them. :)

I remember my parents doing that! It was so super cool. It was one of the many things about Futureworld back in the day that really felt futuristic.

And I miss 20,000, too! :sad2:

I am very surprised that no one has mentionned what Disney once claimed to be one of the largest animatronics ever built: the Yeti! Expedition Everest's Yeti is no longer an animatronics, it just stands close to the track and looks abandoned by the Imagineers, unable to fix it.

The lesson behind the legend of the forbidden mountain is that man must share its environment with other leaving species and can't control everything. I think that the legend now has a new meaning: even the Imagineers could not control the Yeti!

Leaving things to run down does not exactly evoke the Disney perfection that they are so capable of though. At least not for me. But people come anyway, me included. :hippie:

I agree it is sad to see some things like River Country just rot away. The abandoned buildings at POP do not make a perfect view for those on the other side of the lake. Disney has always illustrated high standards. One would wonder what Walt would think of the waste. I to go but miss the way things use to be.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Loved the invisible dog when it first came out.

Do you remember the orange drinks that came in a plastic orange with the green plastic leafs on top and a straw? :wizard: Another of my favorites from Disney when it first opened.

omg!!! i totally forgot about the oranges until you mentoined them!!! i loved those....

i really need to get old pics from my mom and dad of disney trips past....

i miss the roger rabbit stuff too...when mgm opened all iwanted was a pic with roger rabbit but i never found him....:sad2::sad1:

seriously? they cant fix the yeti? that was the best part of the ride!!!!

I don't believe it is a case of "can't fix", but "won't fix right now". They tried a couple stopgap measures, but nothing seems to have worked.

The base damage is severe enough that it would apparently take a lengthy rehab to address it, and they likely don't want to remove it from operation for so long at this point.

It was so cool because it was this big lagoon and waterfall area, that looked like a Mysterious Island.
It was such a magical transition between Fantasy Land and Future World.

Here's a photo from the sky ride heading from the Go Cart track towards "Its a Small World"

Thanks for those photos. I was able to ride it in 1992, but my kids won't be able to. We were just talking about this at dinner the other night, so now I can show them what I was talking about.

My DS is going to make us ride it, but hopefully your prophecy will come true before we get there!

Ya know, I could put up with that if the ride was half decent. I remember the first (and last!) time I rode it. I remember thinking, "Cool! I get to drive a car (not) on a racetrack (not) really fast! (absolutely not)." :sad2: Compared to any gokart track anywhere... ugh.

Even just seeing the sign for "Body Wars" makes me want to hurl. :scared:

I really miss the unique stores that Disney had in the 70's and 80's you never knew what you would find.

I remember a store in Liberty Square, maybe it was Heritage House, where there were scent oils in glass containers. You would mix the oils to make your own personal perfume. The clerk would assist you with this, and keep a record of your formula. You would take home a small glass vial of your personal perfume. I remember mine was very lovely. It made the Disney experience unique and personal to me.

Also, at EPCOT France, anyone remember the store in front used to have an assortment of miscellaneous French collectibles. Our family usually bought a Limoges china "snuff" box on each visit. Now there is just a small variety of way-overpriced perfume there from, I think, one or two manufacturers. Obvious emphasis on maximizing store income, but, Ho-Hum, how boring!

EPCOT Canada used to sell the little maple sugar candies. No more. They did have them at the Canada F&W Booth, but the ones they had there stunk!

It really is a shame how all the stores sell the same old junk now.

we love it even though it's not really anything impressive.

given the fact that it is part of tomorrowland, they should update it. it should be a ride/drive in a 'vehicle of tomorrow'. it could be some bubble dome looking thing that drives without a physical track rail. it could have sections where you are in control but kept with-in they course by electronic means, demonstrating the technology. at the end, it could become hands-free and park itself. they could make them hybrids or electric vehicles. just don't have toyota sponsor it or it could become too much of a thrill ride:lmao:

I was trying to find something of the old exit displays in Space Mountain, but haven't found it yet.

Did find these tv loops from 1987

ok...i think this was in the Land at EPCOT...does anyone remember the show with the dancing fruits and veggies that talked about eating a healthy lunch and stuff...it was hokey but i always loved it...i really miss it!!!

i also miss the REAL animation studio! i can't remember what movie they were working on when i first to MGM went but it was May the year MGM opened....anyone have any ideas????

Don't know if anyone answered your questions but the dancing fruits and veggies was Kitchen Kaberet, I believe.

We were also at MGM the first May it opened. I believe the movie they were working on at the time was Beauty and the Beast.

Lastly, as pp said, I sure do miss the view of the Chinese Theater when you walk into HS. I reaally dislike that Hat!:sad2:
