Abandoned Attractions

Leaving things to run down does not exactly evoke the Disney perfection that they are so capable of though. At least not for me. But people come anyway, me included. :hippie:

Yes, I think you said it better than I did--leaving outdated or run down attractions, etc., doesn't exactly "offset" a new attraction in terms of having each attraction be a draw in and of itself. But you're right, people (including me, too) do come anyway...

Not saying it does...just giving a reason. However, examples such as Sounds Dangerous and Wonders Of Life are a bit different as they are rarely used as it is, and are probably awaiting an excuse to be reused in some fashion. I don't know about WoL being "run down" exactly either. I know things seem a bit out of place in there however when its used for festivals. SD is a rather limited space and they only open it when they really need to to try and eat some crowd - and even then I'm not sure its very successful...

It's so interesting and sad that Disney would let these things just sit and rot on their property, much of it in plain view of the public. It's so weird...

I wish I could of rode on Body Wars, it would of been so awesome...

Here's another "presently abandonded" attraction no one else has mentioned:

I actually miss it a bit. Was a nice "respite" in Hollywood Studios.

As far as I'm concerned, that attraction was abandoned the day the Monster Sound Show left and was replaced with Drew Carey's nonsense. :headache:

Actually, we have - that's Sounds Dangerous...and it isn't fully abandoned, but is "seasonal" - which is just a step above, usually.

Forgive me if this exact part has already been mentioned.

I saw some of the posts about countries never built. I remember seeing this sign at Epcot in the World Showcase announcing Israel. There were other countries that went unfunded, but I just remember this sign.

...I remember my dad making dining reservations at SpaceShip earth via a dining reservation agent on the TV. What was that?

I did that for an ADR to Coral Reef, back in '87. We got to sit right by the glass... awesome! :thumbsup2 I had an early copy of UG which told me I could use the "TVs" to connect to guest services and make ADRs. Pretty much everybody would enter the park, head straight to SE, ride it, then walk right past the "TVs" and out the doors. :lmao: I guess maybe that's why they got rid of them. :)

I don't know if it was specifically mentioned earlier, but those Epcot flamingoes were relocated to Disney's Animal Kingdom, when it opened.

No, it hadn't been mentioned. And I remember seeing them there too, years ago and wondering where they had gotten to. Thanks!

I miss the Magic Shop on Main Street more than anything else... I really miss the unique stores that Disney had in the 70's and 80's you never knew what you would find. ( I still remember the little bank I bought with the creepy hand that came out and grabbed the coins)

OMG, I loved that store. I was too young when I first visited it to get anything (no cash, :confused3), but I sooooo wanted that bank. The next best thing is MagicMasters in DTD... but it's just not the same. :sad2:

Wouldn't that have been an incredible pavilion? I also looked forward to the Spanish pavilion that we heard so much about over the years. I could already taste the paella...

It would have been a political hot potato.

Where in the Magic Kingdom was 20,000 Leagues under the sea? I can't remember? What is there now?

Pooh's Playful Spot was on the closest part of it, at least until a week or so ago... :) Most of the rest wound up backstage.

Thanks... They still sell those banks on Ebay... not very expensive. I think the popularity of the Adams Family movies help re-branded it and keep them around. Try searching "Thing" bank or "creepy hand" bank ;)

For those who didn't remember the magic shop in Main Street it was as good as going on a ride for us....so much to look at. Mom would give us $4.00 and we'd find plenty of cool things to buy :cloud9:

It was so cool because it was this big lagoon and waterfall area, that looked like a Mysterious Island.
It was such a magical transition between Fantasy Land and Future World.

Here's a photo from the sky ride heading from the Go Cart track towards "Its a Small World"

Personally, I think Tomorrowland Indy Speedway would make a wonderful addition to the list of abandoned attractions... :)
