AAA parking pass grovel......

Two years ago when I used to frequent these boards the preachiness and righteousness were in check. Now it seems it is out of control.

I pay the dues....I want to use the pass and have access to the lot...anyone else wants to park there....pay the dues. I don't make triptiks for non-members either....anyone who wants the benefits of any service....pay the price.....

I never knew that as a member I could possibly get a AAA pass. Guess I will have to look into it. I was under the assumption that I had to book a package, and since we usually do room only...

OP, if it is that important maybe call AAA and ask if you are a memeber could you get the pass. The $55 might be worth it, plus you get roadside assisstance

It depends on the office. I get the pass by booking my package through AAA - if it means that much to you, you could try booking. I got a great rate, get the pass, and have a great agent.

well, here's the problem. those of us who pay the approx. $55 per year to join AAA would like to know that the diamond parking lot is NOT full, esp. with those who did NOT pay.

I know it sounds all "fuzzy wuzzy" to "pay it forward" and all. and I don't really give a rat's ... if I pay for something, and someone else gets "pixie dust" and doesn't. great luck for them!!!.

but if it keeps someone who DID actually PAY for it from getting the benefits (or has them parking a half block or a block further, with granny in a wheelchair.. the entire reason they PAID for the AAA benefits).. then.. it no longer fits into the "Pay it forward" category.

Also, for other posters who say that the passes are generic - maybe that's how it used to be and maybe the AAA offices still have some generic ones. But I have our pass in front of me for our trip we're leaving for this week (yay!).

It says "void if sold," "non transferrable," has our NAMES and DATES OF VALIDITY. If that's not proof that it's all against the rules, I fear there's no hope. And I really hope the parking staff DO verify it and make sure our pass and park tickets match up!

I do beleive you have to book your trip through AAA to get the diamond parking pass. it's a perk for booking through them. but I neer called to ask. we are still members, but habven't booked through them in some time. (we like to call ourselves, cause we usually have a flow chart of options! and nebo is constantly "tweaking" the trip)

we have never tried to park in the AAA spots with just our AAA card

I'm sorry that you had surgery, but that is really no excuse. Someone else could say that they have bad knees, and therefore it is ok if they buy one of off e-bay. Someone else could say they are too old and need to park closer. One can always find a reason a rule applies to everyone but them if they look hard enough.

It is not suprising they now put names on them.

I've got a strong desire to not carry a stroller, camera bag, and a backpack any further than I have to. Does that mean I can have an AAA parking pass too without being a member? I wonder if people who buy those AAA parking passes on Ebay also buy the old refillable resort mugs on there too? Like a 2 for 1 deal.

The only way it should work out for him is if he buys a membership from AAA and gets his pass that way. That's it. Stop encouraging someone who's trying to cheat.

I don't think it's a case of us 'bringing you down'..it's a case of someone asking a question and not liking the answer they get. It says right on the AAA parking pass that they are not for sale, and are not transferrable. What is so hard to understand about that??? Same thing goes for APs...the name of the person using it is on the back of the pass..they use it, no one else..pretty simple to understand.

What is going on is a group of individuals who want to get as much as they possibly can, without being entitled to something. There will always be those who feel that they have 'paid enough' and should get as many perks as possible, even if they are not even close to being qualified for those perks.
We see it all the time....self parking at CR or BW so as to get into the parks more easily without paying to park, or to avoid the departing crowds. Those who stay past parking closing in order be there for hard ticketed parties. Those who try to stuff as many people in a room as possible even though they are 3 people over capacity and then try to access EMHs. The list goes on and on.
The sense of entitlement is incredible. It's almost as if people are saying...'hey,if I can get away with it, then it's fine to do'. And that's just sad. And of course, there are those who feel that we are bashing you or flaming you. Everyone can find a valid (to them) 'reason' to get around policies. But that doesn't mean you should.

Actually, a person with those ailments could simply get a handicapped plackard from their state's DMV and park in the lot that's a bit closer than the diamond lot. That's what we do and it's a lifesaver.

Sorry if you feel that I am on my high horse. I just get very tired of those who try and circumvent the system at every turn. My dh and I work hard to pay for our Disney trips and we don't expect any freebies or look for ways to get something for nothing.

I can't address parking issues as we stay on property and use the bus system.

But, I really don't need to have the 16 mugs that were purchased over our last four trips. It would have been real simple to bring old mugs back and abuse the system. It also would not have been right.

OP, I am so much better than you. Please note my moral outrage...no, wait, please don't. I'm not better than you. And there are worse things out there about which I can be infuriated.

"Some guy using a parking pass that someone else gave him" is about 117,492 on my list of things about which I will worry.

I have, however, used a AAA pass and frankly, the parking with them is worse than the regular parking in some of the parks - especially at MK. When I get one, I hardly even use it. And I would never, ever pay for it. So not worth paying for!

Sorry if you feel that I am on my high horse. I just get very tired of those who try and circumvent the system at every turn. My dh and I work hard to pay for our Disney trips and we don't expect any freebies or look for ways to get something for nothing.

Looking for ways to cut cost and to save time is normal and expected for a high dollar vacation like wdw. Heck, we have a section of the forums dedicated to discussing those very issues.

I can't address parking issues as we stay on property and use the bus system.

But, I really don't need to have the 16 mugs that were purchased over our last four trips. It would have been real simple to bring old mugs back and abuse the system. It also would not have been right.

This thread is not about mugs, or about abusing the 'system'. It was a simple question about obtaining a AAA parking pass that was answered politely by the first dozen or so responders to the thread. The moral outrage that came later was not necessary.

As mentioned by several posters, some AAA offices give the passes out to anyone who asks while others require a package to be purchased from them. The OP's office is apparently the latter.

Also, you should be super extra sure before suggesting that another poster is a liar. The OP posted in March 2008 that he was a AAA member. I have no reason to believe that he was lying then or that he has since discontinued his membership.

Regarding your previous post, we all know these boards are here for people to have access to tips and advice on saving time and money at WDW and I have learned a LOT of invaluable info that I don't think I could have found out otherwise. But I respectfully disagree with you that asking if a AAA member could give me their parking pass is the same as asking about where to find the cheapest place to buy gas in Orlando. Whether you see it or not, there is a line that can be crossed. It really just comes down to respect for yourself and those around you. Either you have it or you don't.

These forums should remain friendly enough that people can ask questions without getting jumped on. A person who doesn't know that these passes are not transferrable should be able to ask the question without having his morality called into question (or being called a liar without any evidence of same). In such cases, the proper response is to politely explain that the passes are not transferrable, as the initial dozen or so responses did. It is not appropriate to attack the OP's morality or to call him a liar.
