AAA parking pass grovel......

These forums should remain friendly enough that people can ask questions without getting jumped on. A person who doesn't know that these passes are not transferrable should be able to ask the question without having his morality called into question (or being called a liar without any evidence of same). In such cases, the proper response is to politely explain that the passes are not transferrable, as the initial dozen or so responses did. It is not appropriate to attack the OP's morality or to call him a liar.

While I agree that people shouldn't call someone a liar without evidence of such or should attack the morality of a poster without evidence of such, that is a danger one takes when they post on a public message board. The DISboards are some of the nicest boards I have ever been a part of. However, if you are not willing to take ALL replies that come with a question, then you shouldn't be posting them on a forum.

When you get so many people together with so many different opinions and personalities, then you get situations like this. I don't personally think anyone was super rude, but frustrated with the threads of how to get around policies. So, yes, that frustration comes out in their responses because they are simply tired of it all.

Soooo very well said.

Honestly, and this is just my opinion, but I think the DIS almost encourages it anymore though. Like that stupid little emoticon popcorn:: What is the purpose of it other than to encourage drama?

I made a similar comment the other day, on a posting that was "I know this is not allowed, but has anyone been able to do such and such."

I commented that it continually amazed me that someone would post on a board where people post for their love for Disney, and then ask how to bend the rules there - knowing what the answer will eventually be....

Easy.... I didn't call him a liar, just wondered why his AAA membership wasn't mentioned in the OP. And to think that someone had been a member for all these years and doesn't know the passes aren't transferrable, AND just got a pass using same means a couple years ago.... Come on, really? I'm sure the OP is as morally upstanding as everyone else, he just doesn't think the rules about AAA parking passes should apply to him.

Actually, a person with those ailments could simply get a handicapped plackard from their state's DMV and park in the lot that's a bit closer than the diamond lot. That's what we do and it's a lifesaver.

It doesn't mean that everyone should hop on their morale high horse every time that someone asks a question, either. Certainly, the OP's request could have been answered with a simple 'They aren't transferable.' without all the gnashing of the teeth and the lamenting over others trying to 'get over' that we've seen in this thread.

A good suggestion about the DMV should anyone need a handicapped plackard. :thumbsup2

If you go back and check, the first few replies to the OP did just state that the passes are not transferrable. I don't think anyone hopped on their high horse until after a few posts from people who admitted they didn't think the non-transferable rule applied to them. If you have enough nerve to post on a message board on how you work the system, and use a benefit you are not entitled to, then you need to have enough nerve to take the negative feedback you are sure to get.

If you have enough gumption to boast about how you go about breaking rules, than you should have enough of a backbone to take being called out on it.

True. You didn't actually call him a liar. You did, however, express doubt of his truthfulness. Many people would consider this the same thing.
And to think that someone had been a member for all these years and doesn't know the passes aren't transferrable,
I didn't know that they weren't transferrable until I read this thread. Why would I assume that the OP knew?

What's not to believe about that? It was easily verified through a quick forum search.

The OP made three posts to this thread. None of which suggested that he thought that he was above the rules.

Post 1 - Asked the question
Post 2 - Expressed surprise at the way he was treated
Post 3 - Answered the question regarding his AAA membership status (which is verifiable from his old posts).

I almost agree with you. I believe the OP asked an honest question. However it seems to me they just didn't like being told that what they wanted to do was wrong. Hence the comments about people being preachy and self-rightous. If you don't want to know the answer, don't ask the question.

No, I expressed SURPRISE that he didnt mention it from the beginning. Oh no, you aren't calling me a liar now are you? Tsk, tsk. Believe what you want, and I'll do the same. As a PP mentioned, don't come onto a forum such as this, ask about how to skirt the rules (I know, I know, you just can't believe that anyone would do anything like that) and then be surprised if you get called out on it.

I think we can agree that his second post was defensive. Whether it was reasonable to be defensive in response to the posts he received is a point that you and I can agree to disagree.

I think your post stands on it's own. People can take away from it what they will.

The OP never asked for information on how to skirt a rule.

That's funny, I was just about to say the same about your post, standing on it's own and all. You do realize that your criticism of my posts, or anyone else who spoke out against breaking the rules, is a little high handed, right? Again, here's where I'll insert the line "your post stands on it's own". I just remembered that my parents have a AAA membership and could probably get me one of those shiny parking passes, but no I think we will just park in the lower 40 with all the other non- AAA members.

The pass rule varies by club and by associate. At the office I worked at, we had no rules regarding the pass. I would give them to anyone who had a valid membership. The other associates I worked with may not have and may have used that as part of a bargaining tool to get them to book their package there or buy tickets there. Other clubs in different regions, particularly those in closer driving distance to WDW, may have strict rules on the passes. You have to check with your own club and maybe one or two different associates there to see about getting it.
