No, not like the grocery store...

I need to get back into shape and lose some serious weight (about 50 pounds). I would love to do this in time for my Disney trip in October for the 40th anniversary. The most success I've ever had with dieting involved a "whole foods" diet. Basically, it means you eat fresh foods in their most natural form. The best way I've ever described the diet is to only eat things with names on the labels I understand. So if I picked up packaged food and look at the ingredients list, I wouldn't eat the food if it contained "monopolysaturadundioxicflouridonics" :lmao:

Anyways, the diet ultimately failed for me because it got too boring. I was tired of making the same brown rice / broccoli dish. I think if I could incorporate some mega-variety into the diet I wouldn't get bored and have some extreme success.

What do you think? Have you ever tried a diet like this? Any recommendations?

Get one of Tosca Reno's Clean Eating cookbooks. There are lots of good things in there. She doesn't believe in processed foods, so that should be a good way to go. :thumbsup2

Have you ever heard of the Paleo Diet? I have been following it for 30 days and have lost 8.5 pounds -- the most I've lost doing anything. My goal is to lose about 20 pounds overall, so being almost halfway after one month feels great. I highly recommend it!

Paleo eating is not that hard to do, either, and it leaves me with a lot more energy! :cool1: (I didn't know if I'd be able to do it at first, but now I notice that I feel crummy when I do eat something outside of the Paleo-approved list.) I also love that if you do have something outside of the list you don't have to start all over or something, like Atkins and some of the others. It is nice to have a dinner out without guilt!

A good website to get started on is Whole30, which sounds a lot like what you've done in the past.

Let me know if you have questions! I'd love to share my experience, etc.

:yay:Ashley

Another Paleo/Primal fan here! It's easy and I don't feel like I'm on a diet. I lost 75lbs in a year. It's a lifestyle change, but one I am so happy I made.

My favorite info source is Mark Sisson. Check out his blog: Mark's Daily Apple.

I found the GI diet (Glycemic Index) to be very effective. It concentrates on whole-grains and the right kinds of fruits and veggies (low sugar content).
