A Very Chit-Chat Thread

So while not having my own patient responsibility last night I ended up helping out a lot and doing a ton of walking!

I used to work at Starbucks. It was the first job I had when I moved to California. I moved here without a job and was starting work 2 weeks to the day of arriving in the state. I was very blessed to be able to find work so quickly. I worked there for 1.5 years all while trying to find a job in Marketing (what my first degree is in). After Starbucks I went to Kinkos. I was there for about 4 months when I realized that wasn't working. However it really wasn't my decision to go back to school. My husband said. "I'm going back to school and if I am, you are too!" So I decided to go back to school for nursing. BEST DECISION EVER! I LOVE my job (most days!)

Okay so that started out with saying I also worked at SBux and you all got my recent life history. :rotfl2: Anyways I liked Starbucks. I love working with people so it was okay for me. (I had prior History of working at McDonald's for 7.5 years so Customer Service is just a part of me!)

I used to do the opening shift in all those jobs so weird hours are a part of me too!

Starbucks is actually a decent place to work if you like talking and working with people. I make a MEAN Cappuccino! (I had people VERY upset I was leaving cause they always wanted me to make their drinks!)

Haha how funny, I just got my degree in Marketing, and I am planning on moving to LA later this year to find a job! (& I just love So Cal :))
I like my job at Starbucks, the people I work with are amazing and a lot of us have become really good friends. Some customers can be a pain, but those are usually the ones who come in the morning, before they have had their caffeine. So by night, when I am usually there, everyone's usually in a better mood :rotfl: It sometimes gets so repetitive though, cleaning the same thing 5 nights in a row.
It's important to really enjoy your job. And for me, a major part of that is the people you work with. I am very nervous/anxious to move and get a 'real' job. I would actually LOVE LOVE LOVE to work for Disney in any way shape or form. That is my career goal. :goodvibes

I know someone that worked for Disney while she was in college down there and she loved working for Disney.

My problem is when I graduated I obtained a job as a Marketing Production Assistant. I was doing ads, kids newsletters, posters etc for a bank. The problem was when I moved to CA lots of people had those talents so there weren't any jobs. My #1 job advice is to get a job doing something you enjoy that offers job advancement!

I always wanted to work for Disney. I wish I had known about the college programs!

It would be a fun job for sure.

There are so MANY different types of jobs at Disney. Some I wouldn't want. A lot I think are under appreciated.

Oh I agree and everyone of them contributes to the great visits that we have.

See, that type of job would be what I would want to start out at. Some sort of marketing assistant position. But jobs are still hard to find, so I am keeping that in mind as not to get discouraged at all. I've been doing searches every now and then on what's available in Southern Cali just to get ideas of what I should be searching for when the time comes. I need to finish up my resume...ugh.
I will probably hit the job search hard after my sister's wedding, which is in June. There is just too much going on and I wouldn't wanna stress my parents out any more than they already are with the wedding. I also wanna get in one last summer of fun before I move away and become a real adult! :rotfl2:

Good Luck finding something good. :woohoo:

I know, right??!!

Jillian - much luck and :goodvibes with your job search.

I'm still chugging away at my job search. I have a selection interview scheduled for next Thursday (5.26). If I pass, I go on to background/psych/polygraph. Such a crazy process!

So funny about Starbucks. DH had the worst Starbucks experience in S. Cali last weekend, the Starbucks on Harbor right past the 5, across the street from the Hotel Menage. The lady working the register was rude and downright condescending! It was enough that he talked the manager, who just kind of blew it off  so he called the corporate line. They said they would send out a district manager and send him some gift cards  And believe me, DH is not the type to complain for no reason or is a high-maintenance customer by any means. It was really bad, I've never seen anything like that at Starbucks, ever.

My guess is that is a high traffic store so they just don't care. I am sure that most people go in there are tourist who don't take the time to complain. Good for DH!!

Good morning!

How is everyone doing?

I just got off the phone with several companies to make sure I have no payments scheduled to come out in the next bit, cause the government was nice enough (insert heavy sarcasm) to give me 2 whole days notice that I would be getting paid 2 days later thanks to the holiday this weekend. Sometimes I miss my job, cause they pay earlier on a holiday, not later. Oh well, not much I can do about it now!

I am also still in the process of going through all the stuff we got from the baby shower. So much stuff!!! But other than a little organizing we are all set. So baby can come any day now. I would prefer sooner than later!!

I can't say that I've had too bad of an experience at Starbucks, but I don't go there too often. I am not a coffee drinker, but I do like their Vanilla Lattes once in a while. Only place I really remember bad service was Future Shop (same as Best Buy if you don't have any in the States), but that is a long story I don't feel like dwelling on at the moment, lol.

Hi Andrea,

At least the government let you know.

Scotty has had bad customer service with Best Buy and doesn't like shopping there at all. I will not go to a business where I am treated rudely, there was a gas station here in town where the clerk was really rude and I will not go into Chevron stations now.

I have been to that Starbucks once, they were okay at that time. It's funny though, if I go to a Starbucks and they are extrememly rude to me, then when I pay I hand them my partner card to get a discount then their attitude changes right away! :rotfl2:

I am off this afternoon for my quickie DLR trip for the ST2 preview! :woohoo:
I won't be on the DIS probably until Saturday afternoon, so I am sure other DISers who are going will have reported back on the new ride before me!
Have a good rest of the week and weekend everyone :)

Have fun!!

At Future Shop, it wasn't really customer service at first that was the issue. We were trying to return a tv that we had bought the extended warranty on because it stopped working, and they were trying to exchange it for something that wasn't even close to equal or better than what we had, which is what their warranty policy promises. We ended up talking and arguing with 4 different people before they got the store manager who finally gave us what we were entitled too. Wasn't a fun experience, and although we did get what we should have eventually, I doubt I will ever put the extra money out for an extended warranty from them again.

Good Morning Everyone!

I actually SLEPT IN! I haven't slept till 10am in a VERY LONG time!

Jillian! Have fun at Disneyland! I didn't enter the contest as there was no way I could make it down there.

Tania... what kind of work are you looking for?

Andrea... Eat some Pepperoni! :rotfl2:

Michele. We won't go to the Valero by our house. They started charging different prices for cash vs credit sales and when you use your debit card they counted that as credit :confused3 even though everywhere else considers debit like cash so we refused to go there as they were really rude when we tried to talk to them about it.
Unfortunately the cheap gas station we had across the street from the Valero was turned into a Shell and is now more expensive. :scared1:

That is a customer service issue. Good for you for standing up to get what you deserve.

I am putting my Stitch through the wash right now. He needed it. Is it bad that I am sad he is in there? lol.

No, it isn't bad I totally understand.
