A thought for the Day

We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say 'It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.' Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.

--Fred Rogers

Don't be afraid to take a big step. You can't cross a chasm in two small jumps.

- David Lloyd George

Taking a risk can be scary. Whether the risk involves a new
relationship, asking for a raise, being honest, or changing a behavior,
it's still pretty hard to do. Sometimes we may wish we could approach a
risk with only partial involvement, almost as if we had one foot inside a
door and one outside. That way, if things get too difficult, we can
always run away.

But we can't take a risk unless we commit ourselves to it. And we can't
commit ourselves, unless we have faith that no matter what happens,
we're okay. We may feel vulnerable, but we don't have to feel alone if
we remember our Higher Power is with us.

Perhaps we took a risk today and are still feeling scared and exposed.
Or maybe we're planning on taking a risk tomorrow and are filled with
fear. Remember it's okay to have feelings of fear, doubt, and insecurity.

Tonight I will relax and know I never approach a risk without my
Higher Power to guide me.

I recently received an e-mail from a good friend of mine... their nephew is about 5 or 6 years old and has been dealing with tumors in his brain since he was 6 months old. A recent check up showed that the prognosis wasn't good. Not only does he have more tumors in areas of his brain he also has a few along his spine. They cannot use surgery to remove these but will do their best to treat. As my friend's wife says "He's just a little boy and it's not fair!" many times it just made my friend say this to me "Remember that every day is a wonderful gift"

So as you are going through life and things don't seem fair or happy or whatever remember what my friend is reminded of daily... that every day is a wonderful gift.

A gift for sure, Elaine. Such a great thought. And my best for your friend's little nephew.

The positive side

Rather than living on the negative side of life, put yourself on the positive side. When you sense yourself becoming negative, stop and think about what it would mean to apply that negative energy in the opposite direction.
Rather than being annoyed, let yourself be amused. Instead of feeling envy toward others, transform it into admiration. If you feel yourself becoming embittered or angry, put that energy into positive, productive determination. Take the sadness that you feel and turn it into caring.

Imagine being able to extract the positive energy from a negative situation. With such an approach, nothing can hold you back for long.

For everything that can bring you down, there is a positive side that can lift you up. Look for a way to turn the negativity around, know with confidence that it is there, and you'll find it.

-- Ralph Marston

If we make our goal to live a life of compassion and unconditional love, then the world will indeed become a garden where all kinds of flowers can bloom and grow.

Ever thankful

When some things go wrong, take a moment to be thankful for the many more things that are still going right. To find a sure and dependable way through your troubles, start by counting your blessings.
Focus on what you can do and you won't have to be held back by what you cannot do. Value and appreciate what you do have, and you will no longer be limited by what you don't have.

True abundance begins with gratitude. The more thankful you are for the good things you have, the more they will grow to have even greater value.

With gratitude in your heart, your eyes can see more clearly. You'll discover ways for moving forward that you otherwise would never have noticed.

Before you blame, before you worry, before you resent or despair, take a moment to be truly thankful. See the world from the perspective of gratitude and see what a powerful positive difference it can make.

-- Ralph Marston

Dan, you'll never know how much I needed that thought today.

"We know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." -- Romans 8:28

Write down the most important things you have to do tomorrow. Now, number them in the order of their true importance. The first thing tomorrow morning, start working on an item Number 1, and stay with it until completed. Then take item Number 2 the same way. Then Number 3, and so on. Don't worry if you don't complete everything on the schedule. At least you will have completed the most important projects before getting to the less important ones.

Warm be the love that surrounds you,
Good be your friends, and true,
Constant be hope and promise,
Useful the work that you do-
Close be your family around you,
Good health be yours day by day,
Long be the life that you're living,
And full of much joy on the way!

Great Spirit, help me never to judge another until I have walked in his moccasins for two weeks.

- Sioux Indian prayer

How many times do we see someone who dresses or acts differently?
How do we usually react to such a person? Do we stare or make a
comment to someone next to us? Meetings are excellent places to come
in contact with those who come from different backgrounds. Do we
greet each person we meet with care and attention, or do we pass
judgments and make jokes?

Our Higher Power has given each of us a diverse background and
personality. Some of us have known incredible hardship or handicap.
Some of us have limited education. Some of us live in crowded spaces.
But some of us have had opportunities. Some of us have an educational
degree. Some of us live in large homes. Yet is there any one of us who
is better than another?

If we are prone to judge or criticize, tonight we can decide to take a
first step toward silence. Remember that education and economics do
not make someone better. We are the same, no matter how much, or
how little, we have.

So every faithful heart shall pray to Thee in the hour of anxiety, when
great floods threaten. Thou art a refuge to me from distress so that it
cannot touch me; Thou dost guard me in salvation beyond all reach of
harm.

- Psalm 32

It's difficult to focus on the present when our minds are thinking of
events yet to come. We may be so obsessed with an upcoming
happening that we forget to stay in the present.

Perhaps we've been asked to speak at a meeting. Or maybe we have a
big test tomorrow. Or maybe we have some plans days from now for a
party, a family get-together, or a trip, that are already sending us into a
whirlwind of tension and anxiety.

To stay in the present, we need to ask for help. Our Higher Power can
help us with our anxiety about a future event, whether the event will
happen five minutes, five days, or five years from now. Tonight and
tomorrow will happen, no matter how much anxiety we have. But
future events may turn out a little better if we take some serenity from
our Higher Power with us.

Freedom is a two sided coin, on one side is privilege, on the other is responsibility

though many do not agree with the forth coming War, remember our Troops.. may God be with them

Good point huckster. Many like to enjoy the fruits of freedom, but don't expect to have to do any of the work of freedom.

Jesus said, "You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end." Matthew 24:6

(For more on what Jesus has to say about the future, read the entire chapter, 24, in Matthew or Mark:13. Anyone who believes that Jesus was at least a prophet of God would, I think, find it interesting and hopefully comforting)
