A thought for the Day

A Time for Everything

1There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
3 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
5 a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
6 a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
7 a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
8 a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

1 Corinthians 3

Giving value

Are you looking for a great opportunity? The greatest opportunities are those that challenge you and demand the best you have to give. So-called opportunities that promise a free ride have no value, because there is no way for you to put any value into them.
Think about it for a moment and you'll realize that the things you value most are those things to which, and for which, you give of yourself the most. You value your home because you work to purchase, maintain and protect it. You value your relationships because of what you have put into them.

The valuable things in your life are valuable to you not because of how much money has been spent on them. They have value because of how much of yourself has been put into them.

The effort spent on creating value is a joy. Such effort is not something to be avoided, but something to be sought. It's the way to make a difference, the way that problems are transcended, the way that wealth is created, the way that lives are improved.

Make the effort, create the value, and the rewards will be great indeed.

-- Ralph Marston

Do your best and leave to God the rest.

Turning It Over

There comes a time in facing a challenge when we have done all that
we can, and still the situation remains unresolved. This is the time to
turn the problem over and release our cares into the hands of spirit.
When we let the Universe take charge, anything becomes possible. God
can do for us what we could not do for ourselves.

If you find that you have reached such an impasse, try the following: in
your mind's eye place the problem upon an imaginary altar. Then say,
"I turn this over to you, spirit. From now on, you are in charge." As you
walk away, know that all is in Divine hands.

Despairing of ever getting published, a young writer used this
approach: he placed his manuscript on his inner alter and moved on to
another project. Two weeks later, the book was accepted by a major
publisher for a substantial advance. Turning to his agent he said, "I
want to thank whoever is responsible, because it certainly wasn't me."

It is good to realize that we do not have to do everything alone. Help is
available. Invisible hands come to support us at the right time. As the
psalmist assures us, "Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall
sustain thee."

A serene moment

When negativity seems to have taken over your thinking, and all you can see in every direction are problems, stop and calm your mind. Clear your thoughts away and for a while, feel the peace of simply being.
Let go of the thoughts racing through your head and let in a feeling of serenity. Put yourself in a state where even the distractions cannot affect you.

Allow the negativity to drain steadily away and enjoy the clear, calm awareness of what is. Let go of the need to make judgments about what is going on, and let in the pure experience of what is happening.

See that the disappointments of the past are far, far away. Let your peaceful, accepting experience of the moment fill you with a solid, confident energy.

Step back for a little while and feel the calm reality of who you are, of the life you are living. Enjoy a serene moment, and your eyes will be opened to the positive possibilities that are all around you.

-- Ralph Marston

I held a moment in my hand, brilliant as a star, fragile as a
flower, a shiny sliver out of one hour. I dropped it carelessly.
O God! I knew not I held an opportunity.

--Hazel Lee

Once, a famous artist was hired to put stained glass windows into
a great cathedral. His eager young apprentice pleaded for the
chance to design just one small window. The master artist feared
an experiment on even a small window would prove costly, but the
persistent young apprentice kept up his pleas. Finally, the
master agreed that he could try his hand on one small window if
he furnished his own materials and worked on his own time.

The enterprising apprentice began gathering bits of glass his
master had discarded and he set to work. When the cathedral doors
were open, people stood in groups before the small window,
praising its delicate excellence.

Our lives are like this. If we take the time to gather together
the moments and opportunities we too often discard and waste, we
find we can weave them into something beautiful.

What can I make of moments I usually waste today?

How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young,
Compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving,
And tolerant of the weak and strong,
Because someday in your life you will have been all of these.

--- George Washington Carver

That really says a lot Dan! Thanks. :)

Your job today

Your job today is to change the world, and to do it in your own special way. Your job today is to move the world closer to the best it can be by pushing yourself toward the best you can be.
The world will be different at the end of the day because of the way you have lived. The world will change during this day because of the thoughts you have focused upon and the actions you have taken.

There is no one else who can do your job for you. There is no one else who can give to life the unique value that you're able to give.

It is an awesome responsibility and a magnificent opportunity. For the more you give of yourself, the more life will resemble the best vision you have for it.

That is your job today, to give the best of what you have and to truly make life better for the effort. Do that job well, and the rewards will be rich indeed.

-- Ralph Marston

What a great and true statement!

Dust If You Must
Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter
Bake a cake or plant a seed
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb
Music to hear and books to read
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes and the wind in your hair
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain
This day will not come around again.

Dust if oyu must, but bear in mind
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go-and go you must
You, yourself will make more dust!
