A Ten Day Ride on A Magic Camel - Almost Finished Trip Report

On a side note:
Have you guys been seeing Nashville on the news? We have a gas crisis here with 85% of our stations out of gas at any given time. Most stations are empty with bags over all the nozzles, and if you're lucky enough to find one with gas, you have to wait in a line that is backed down the road. Gas station workers were out directing traffic last night when we went to fill up. It's supposed to ease up by the end of the week, but for now, it's not good. There are many people running out of gas, can't make it to work, etc.

Our two closest stations were out. When I called last night to see if they were running again, one said not until Monday and the other said, yes, they were open. Trent and I got in the cars right away and went and got in the massive lines. Drew was coming in as I was pulling out, and he asked where we were going. I told him we were headed to Shell to get gas, and he said, "Good luck with that. They're all the way down the road."

Luckily, everyone was being kind and patient. We were just all wedged in as tight as we could be with windows open, and everyone was having pleasant conversations, so that was good. There have been some bad situations in Nashville where people started arguing and even fighting because they were getting 'skipped', frustrated, etc.

Trent said the Nashville gas story was on CNN last night.

my dad called me yesterday morning. he picks up cable boxes from people with overdue bills sometimes on the weekends for extra money, so he was out doing that and he was getting low on gas while he was on the phone with me and he was saying that stations that had gas had lines that were so long. i don't know if he ever got gas or not. that's crazy. i just went to fill up after i got my groceries for the week. i usually get my gas at kroger because it's 10 cents cheaper with my kroger card but they were out. so i went up the road and about half the pumps there were out. i luckily got one that wasn't out. it was $3.97/gallon, so that's not good but not unheard of either. i guess it's spreading down here!!!

by the way, i bought tickets today for disney on ice!!!! :woohoo: it's on october 25th and me, anna, chris and luke are going. i couldn't talk ray into it. i try not to force him to do things i know he won't enjoy. it would be different if we were taking our own child, but i know he'd be miserable if i made him go with me for no other reason than just to be difficult! thanks for the photos you posted - they made me decide to buy tickets! we got $30 tickets. we're on the floor in the middle so it should be a decent view, although we're in row NN and that may be a little far back. i wanted $35 tickets but those were sold out. the next level was $50 and anna didn't want to pay that since she had to buy 3 tickets. i can't wait!!!

Gas has been pretty scarce in our neck of the woods the past week or so. Last Tuesday when I needed gas, I was not sure I would be able to find any -- Saturday when I stopped to top off the tank, I noticed that most of the pumps at our Racetrack were still out. It was $3.89 which was a little lower than it was earlier in the week. So frustrating. :headache:

I thought I heard something about the gas problem on the news last night, but I was just passing through our living room and didn't really stop to watch. I'm glad that you managed to get gas, and that everyone waiting in line was pleasant. We have a gas station at my store, and the company was doing a promotion where you could accumulate points with your scan card, and every 50 points was $.10 off per gallon of gas. The line at the end of the promotion was  Some people were downright disgruntled. I was sitting outside on my break the day before the promotion ended and every car was playing elephant tails with the car in front of them, because they thought that cars trying to get to the other side of the parking lot were going to cut them in line. I heard one guy yell to another who was trying to pass through, "NOT GETTING IN FRONT OF ME, BUDDY! I'VE BEEN WAITING MY TURN, IT'S TIME TO WAIT YOUR'S!"...and the other person was not even going for gas, they were going to the other end of the parking lot. :confused3 So they had to go all the way down and around the line of cars. I'm sure that other guy felt kind of silly.

Here's hoping that the problem ends really soon for you guys!

MeMom,

I'm thoroughly enjoying your baby and the tramp TR's (I had no idea how MANY trips they would cover when I started, how FUN) and came across the picture of you and Brooklyn in Bruce's mouth and I just wanted to say I think you are beautiful on the outside too! (you also have an amazing heart by the way and I love our outlook on life) I would love to see more pics with you in them

The part where I am at in your previous TR has a lot of discussion about how the Dis feels like friends when we mostly don't know each other in person at all. I lurk more than I comment but it sure is fun to feel like a part of the friendships that have grown here. thanks everyone for sharing your lives with me:grouphug:

(Is K Reile still reading your TR's? I know her comments I have been reading are from last spring but I have been watching her baby ticker and wondering how she is feeling and if that baby has made his/her arrival yet)

Wow, I can't believe its so hard to find gas. I guess I have always taken gas for granted. I hope the problem clears up soon. I hope all the Dis'ers can get to work tomorrow. :wizard:

Many of our stations have been out of gas for a couple of weeks now (since the hurricane). If a station does have gas the price is still outrageous, most around $4.50. Its ridiculous! My husband had an especially hard time finding premium gas in our area. The Shell stations actually announced around the time the hurricane was set to hit that they would not be purchasing gas at all until the price went down.

In other odd news, Travis Barker and DJ AM are in the hospital that is about 5 minutes from our house. We were just in that same hospital's emergency room a few nights ago for my sons high fever.

Another great update---loved the picture of the empty tables!!! Can't wait to see what adventure awaits you at.........AKL???????? ;o)

I was a few updates behind, but all caught up now! Wonderful updates...yummmmmmy Main Street Bakery! I look forward to that meal. :goodvibes

I'm still around....and no baby yet. I techically am due on Thurs but I really hope he comes before then....my back is starting to hurt. I have a doctors appt this afternoon....so hopefully I will get a better idea of when he is coming. Thanks for asking.

I was always creeped out by the zebra-devouring scene in the Jungle Cruise too! Poor guy.
The pictures of Brooklynn watching the the castle show are too cute! :cutie:

Hey MeMom, I was at an apple festivel yesterday and I saw a car with a Tenn. plate on it and I thought of you. I feel bad for all of you with gas shortages we don't have that around here in Omaha. Love the picture in the update with Sully in the chair so cute. Only 84 more days until I head off to the World. I am so excited.

Memom, great Main Street Pictures. I love Main St. Did you notice the Hidden Mickeys on the leather gear of the horse pulling the trolley. I think that's so cool. I love the detail.

We aren't having trouble with gas here right now. We did last week when the electric was out and they couldn't pump the gas in all the towns surrounding us. But our city has it's own electric co. so we could pump the gas, that is until they ran out of it. But it all seems to be back to normal now, but very expensive (which is normal). I hope things straighten out where you are soon.

And we do the same thing you guys do. We're always talking about you guys as though we've known each other forever. Isn't it fun making new friends, even if you've never met them in person?

Looking forward to your next report.

Cathy

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you as you get ready to be separated. Please come back and tell us about your day when he leaves and let us help you through your tears. I'm glad our pictures will bring you some happiness and give you much to look forward to when he gets back.

 You are just the sweetest, kindness woman. Thank you so much for your prayers and your offer to help with the tears. I will be sure to visit DISboards that night.

When in August '09 are you going? We will be there the first few days of August. I think we leave to come home on the 3rd.

We arent going until the end of August. Aug. 24-Sept. 4. fingers crossed for free dining! Too bad we aren't going to be there at the same time. I would love to meet you and the rest of the MeMom clan!:flower3:

I hope you get good news this afternoon. I remember that lovely back pain about 2 nights before I had Brooklynn. Hope everything goes well and we can't wait to hear the news when the little guy arrives.

Hi MeMom! :wave2:

I got back from WDW on Saturday and was happy to see that there were lots of new updates here on the Magic Camel! I've spent the last hour or so catching up and it's definitely helping me with my post Disney blues. Your photos always make me feel like I am right there, riding Snow White or Pooh or Dumbo right along with you. :goodvibes I also really enjoyed seeing your Disney on Ice photos. Looks like it was a fun show!

No change...not progressing. So they are having me go in Wed night and be admitted to start a procedure that is to enlarge my cervix and then take it out Thurs morning and give me pitocin to induce me. So hopefully it works because I amm sooo ready to have this baby. So hopefully sometime thurs this baby will be here.

And Memom....once we get home from the hospital...I will try to figure out how to upload photos so that I may share them with you.
