My husband would like to get a new bed and it's on sale.
However, I would like to pay off my dental bill and some other stuff.

We have a savings accounts. And if I use some of the funds to purchase the bed, I would have to hold off on paying the dental bill and others in full.
If I don't purchase the bed, I can pay everything (dental bill and other bills) in full within 1.5 months. Just to give you an idea my dental bill alone is 1300.00. So those bills aren't just lingering around! I hate that.

This sounds weird but if I decide to pay all the bills off, by then I would have more in savings as well and don't mind paying the "extra cost" for the bed (which will no longer be on sale). Because those bills are paid off in full and my savings account has a very large cushion.

What is your advice? Do you think what I want do is weird? Would it make sense to just buy it now just because it's on sale (half off)?

My two cents...

There will always be a "sale". Pay your bills now and wait and purchase the bed later. Likely there will be an Easter sale, spring sale, Memorial Day sale, etc.

Are you paying interest on the bills? If so, pay them off now. If not, either way would be okay.

i would sleep better on a new bed if i didn't have other bills hanging over my head. Surely he can wait a couple of months for a new bed. Patience is a virtue.

If it's the deal of the century - and by that I mean it's the last model in a tent sale in the parking lot of their property, mattress sales are a dime a dozen. You could also explain your situation to the mattress place - they might be willing to honor the sale price and put it on layaway. They are all about monthly quotas, so they might have some options. Just make sure they don't involve losing the discount by deferring payments.

Pay off the stuff with the interest first.... if there's an ad for the mattress, hold on to it. You can usually talk them down! A few years ago, DH went shopping. He talked the serta people down to the crappy mattress price across the street :thumbsup2 Be willing to walk away and come back another time with a different sales person. And shop online too! Might find something cheaper.

Is it from a mattress store? a lot of the ones around here have no interest for 6 months to a year.

If your bed is so horrible that you can't get a good nights sleep or waking up with constant back pain - I would say bed. If you can get by for a couple months I would most definitely pay the bills first. Most stores have great sales Memorial Day.
Is this like a deal of the century?

It depends. Is your husband having trouble sleeping or having back/hip pain from the mattress you already have? If that's the case I'd buy the bed now and just keep paying the bill down over the next couple of months. Sure it's nice to be debt free but it's even nicer and healthier not to wake up exhausted every morning.
