The Blue Zoo that is.. and they have Tiger Beer!! Yes--Tiger!! Hard to find everywhere--in fact, hard to find anywhere!! A real treat.
OK ,that's out of my system--now the review.
I am beginning to think Blue Zoo is now my 3'rd favorite WDW restaurant. This was our 3rd meal there and it was as good as (or better) than the last. It's located at the Dolphin Hotel and you can get there several ways. We drove and valet parked--they will stamp the voucher at the restaurant and the valet parking is free (except tip, of course). The Dolphin was pretty busy when we arrived before 6:00 PM (another convention going on ) but in spite of the crowd, Mrs U managed to find her way into one of the hotel stores and brought herself a new dress--before dinner!!
Oh well.
We showed up at the restaurant sharply at 6 and were immediately led to the table--walking thru the bar/lounge area, past the kitchen, and past the "dancing" fish. The Blue Zoo IS rather blue looking--upscale nautical is how I'd describe it. Our server for the evening was Lorenzo and he was excellent!! Young and enthusiastic, he knew the menu well and had several suggestions which we took. Mrs U ordered her usual glass of wine, while I had to ask what beers they had (there's no printed list). Lorenzo went thru the usual suspects, got down to Newcastle, then added --oh-and Tiger. That did it. I could have had cold pizza and been happy the rest of the evening--
But the Blue Zoo has much better food than cold pizza!! After downing almost the entire basket of delicious breads and fennel butter that they serve, we ordered our appetizers, Mrs U had the vietnamese crab salad, while I ordered the Teppan seared sea Scallops with braised beef short rib. I'd read about both when Mister Disney did his recent excellent review of Blue Zoo, and based on his recommendations, that's what we ordered. Both were very, very good, but I have to agree with him that the Scallops were the best of the two. Dinner was a tough choice--. Last trip Mrs U had gotten that roasted double pork chop and I'd almost made up my mind in advance to get that. But then I thought-this is a seafood spot, so I'll order seafood. Which I did. From the daily selection of fresh fish (they had 3 that night) I ordered the grouper, with warm crabmeat and a dijon mustard sauce. Mrs U got the house specialty--miso glazed chilean sea bass, with warm sesame spinach. Both were great--and that spinach tasted like nothing we'd tasted before. Wonderful!! Ought to be the standard vegetable everywhere.
Dessert followed--Mrs U had the warm molten chocolate banana cake (which came with chocolate pudding and banana ice cream) while I had the Strawberry Trio (which had strawberry sorbet, fresh strawberries, some chocolate cake and a strawberry flambee').
So a fine meal came and went. Friendly greeters at the podium, an excellent server, a manager who came to the table to inquire how the meal was going, excellent food--and Tiger beer. Dosen't get any better than that.
