First, my cat has this funny habit hich my DH and I discovered by accident...basically, when she hears a cat's meow, she heads in that direction. So, we can call her by meowing, and she will come (but not neccessarily stay, of course!) I wonder why, but its probably just her natural attraction to kitty sounds.

Second...this is more general...but why do cats "nibble" on themselves in the spot where they licked after they lick? I have looked online to no avail.

Interesting Questions! I own 3 Cats and each one has something different that they answer too. My oldest cat will answer to a whistle just like a dog. Of course we conditioned him to do that when he was just a kitten. My other cat will come to a "tsk tsk tsk" noise we make. And the third will answer her name. So the Meow could just be a noise she/he likes.

Why do cats nibble on themselves? Well it could be a number of reasons. They could have an itch, they could just be moving the hair folicols (like when you scratch your head). My DH (who worked at Vet office) also said it could be allergies, dander, the skin being irritated from being licked. Also it could be a sign of Ringworm. I haven't noticed this a whole lot on my cats - so my question is, have you checked your cats for fleas lately?

MY cat comes to me when I call her by her name, Ally, Ally, and she'll show up. I know my cat is a little like a human, from a baby we have trained her to sit and lie down and give kisses.. We did that by not giving her a treat before she did what we wanted her to do. :D :Pinkbounc

Amanda, I'm talking about the "nibbling,"for lack of a better word, that goes along with regular grooming. You know how they'll be licking, and then they stop and nibble in that spot, then continue to lick in another spot. I've never seen a cat that doesn't do this, fleas or no fleas. Though my kittie does get them once in awhile, but Advantage is taking care of that.

It was funny, but I went to a web site about cats last night, and as you enter the site, a sound clip plays of a cat meowing. My cat heard it and was very agitated. It did not sound like a happy cat, it sounded more like a cat telling another cat that it wanted to fight. She kept looking at the computer with big black eyes whenever I made it play (which I had to do about a dozen times!)

I dont know why kitties do it but my kitten Harley did that to me once one night. He decided my neck and chin needed a grooming and he's lick, lick , lick and then nibble nibble. it was very gentle and so hysterical I was in tears. My puppies do it too and none of the 3 have fleas.
