A question for Christians

I've been preached to and preached at-and I'm sorry to disagree but it is judging. Any time a HUMAN being is telling someone else that they are definately going to Hell, that's a judgement. It's also giving power to Man that is reserved for God.

We know what is written in the Bible, but it is utter arrogance on our part to think that we know the mind of God.

The Bible has revealed God (at least partly) to us. His plan is there for us to read & know. I don't know what's in your heart, but I DO KNOW Jesus is the only way to God.

I thought all Christians believed God as three parts whole - father, son and holy spirit? I'm confused by Jesus being the way to God b/c Jesus and God are the same (at least that's what I've been raised to believe). Sincere question.

Well, according to Christian theology, God has changed his mind in the past. The Jews had a covenant, and then God decided to erase that covenant when he sent Jesus. (Never mind the fact that God said the covenant was everlasting.)
But, many Christians tend to either discount that or just plain forget that. Some also believe that all Jews should have followed Jesus and became Christian.

HOW do you really know? As stated, the bible (New Testment) was written long after Jesus' death and by people who didn't even know him and could never have met him. How exactly did the writers know Exactly what He said?
Did Jesus Himself write down what He said? And was that included in the final version of the bible?

It's easy to spot the folks who take the Bible literally. They are the ones with the plucked out right eyes and chopped off right hands. The rest of Christianity understands not to take it literally.

Almost right. They are the ones doing the plucking and the chopping.

I think I give up arguing with people who think they are the only ones who understand and can interpret what the Bible is saying to us. It just makes me sad and tired.

Well, folks like Jimmie will disagree, but I believe that because of trinity being such a mystery (and we Catholics use that word - mystery) when Jesus says he is the way, the truth and the light, he is talking about God. If you believe in the God in more than one person, it makes sense.

And I do believe that God is the way, and that many faiths worship the same God.

I'm Catholic too - wondering if we are the only sec of Christianity to see it that way.

One thing that has always meant a lot to me is that God doesn't give us a simple rule book. He gives as an endless fascinating book, full of stories, metaphors, allegories, puzzles, passages that seem to contradict, etc. Why did God do this, and what does it tell us about God's nature?

I believe God wants us to think, to ponder, to come up with our own ideas about what God expects from us. If that's not what He wanted, he would have given us a very different book. And if God wants us to think, ponder and come up with our own ideas, God has to know that different people will come up with different ideas. God expects us to come to different conclusions. And since I don't think God wants only one person to be "right" and everyone else to be "wrong," I suspect that there isn't a single right answer - God is flexible.

Take somethign like child baptism. Is half of Christianity wrong, or does God accept either?

I think there are a few (very few) Christian faiths that only recognize Jesus. Otherwise, I think the idea of the trinity is not just ours.

How then do you discount the visions people have had in regards to the Lord since the bible was written? Visions that the Vatican has deemed to have actually happened. Do you ignore those completely?

~Amanda

Sure -- visions are possible.
What about the visions re salvation?

I believe the only way into heaven, is admitting that you are a sinner and that Jesus died for your sins. I believe that there is a age of accountablity sp?? I don't think you get to heaven with good deeds or good actions

I'm not judging anyone just stating the facts as I see them

Yes, we believe in the Trinity, per the Bible. Jesus died on the cross for all sin so salvation is thru Him, not the Father. Jesus has permanently reconciled us to the Father.

I will not make this a debate; if someone else wants to, I'll join in. I'm curious how other Christians will answer.

If you were standing before God & He were to ask you, "Why should I let you into My heaven?", what would you say?

I will wait to post my answer until later.

Through the sacred blood of Jesus. Nothing I've done, but what my Savior has done for me.

Who Am I
by Casting Crowns
album: Casting Crowns (2003)

Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth
Would care to know my name

Would care to feel my hurt
Who am I, that the Bright and Morning Star
Would choose to light the way
For my ever wandering heart

Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are

I am a flower quickly fading
Here today and gone tomorrow
A wave tossed in the ocean
Vapor in the wind
Still You hear me when I'm calling
Lord, You catch me when I'm falling
And You've told me who I am
I am Yours, I am Yours

Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love and watch me rise again

Who am I, that the voice that calmed the sea
Would call out through the rain
And calm the storm in me

Not because of who I am
But because of what You've done
Not because of what I've done
But because of who You are

........

emphasis mine.

 If you believe in the Trinity the same way Catholics do, you could not also believe that salvation is through Jesus and not the Father because they are in fact one and the same.

Three parts of the same deity, but Jesus is the one who died fo sin.
