On some recent stays I've reported some things that needed to be "fixed" - things like loose faucets and so on, when we checked out or near the end of the stay.

On a recent stay, the wooden tables had a lot of scarring - it looked almost like the graffiti that people scrape in to wood, only not as organized to be actual shapes. As if someone's child or something had taken a knife to the table - hard to describe, but many big gouges, not just scratches. Anyway, I didn't call to report it, should I have? Do they replace furniture like that?

I would always notify Maintenance of anything that was defective or looked "broken". In the case of shabby conditionsuch as you described, I would have notified the front desk during the stay so they could work on it immediately.

Of course, none of that replacement is done for free. We all end up paying for abuse of the villas.

yeah, the whole replacement cost thing I wasn't sure about. I don't mind calling to ask them to "fix" something or tighten things up, but I wasn't sure about asking about furniture or things that need to be replaced. We all kind of know that some units get more run down than other units through wear and tear (I mean, people report on the upkeep of different units), but I wasn't sure who makes the call on what needs to be replaced. I can understand if housekeeping doesn't notice a wobbly faucet or something, but surely they notice stuff like messed up furniture. Is it best just to let it go? I'm really being serious here, I'm not sure about it. Do people have differences in tolerances? Who makes the call about what to replace - a given number of complaints or something?

If you find something in your room that bothers you, report it. If you don't you may not be the last member to be troubled by the same item.

the maids don't report anything to maintence - not their jobs -

if you don't like something - anything - report it

you won't be charged

I'd think that it would be better to report it and get it fixed or scheduled for replacement than to have the next person report it and have DVD think that you were the one that caused the damage. My DW looks everything over when we move in. We notify them of any inconsistancies. We don't request things be fixed immediately, unless absolutely necessary. Things are usually fixed while we're out and about the next day.
