It is(was) my understanding that our DVC membership entitled us to free theme park parking. All you had to do was show your DVC card at the toll plaza and away you went!!!!

Until last week.

At the entry to the MK parking lot, the mannequin in the booth insisted that we pay for parking. We said no. He said yes. We said no. Yes, no, yes, no, yesnoyesnoyesNO!! etc......

He finally waved us through, cuz we were not gonna' move until the issue wasw settled (in our favor).

Now for the hard part........................

After going through practically EVERY piece of paper I have with the letters DVC on it, I cannot find that written down ANYWHERE.

Is this a reality or have I just been living under false pretenses for the last 7 years??

And if we DO have that privelege, where is it written down (so I can wave it in someone's face when I go back (Tomorrow !!!) ) ??

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

hmmm, i just checked dvcmember.com for our perks, and i did not find anything, so, im going to say : i think dvc assumes we are going to stay at one of the dvc resorts, so their for staying on the property you get parking free at all the wdw parks, is why i bet dvc didnt mention in the perks section about staying off property or day trips you would get free parking. dvc only mentions free valet parking at dvc resorts.

dvc also mentions you can purchase lenght of stay at the wdw parks for a discount, then highlight very large ONLY IF STAYING ON THE PROPERTY.

maybe free parking at the wdw parks fall underneath that catagory.

i hope this helps
:)

Free theme park parking is not a DVC perk. It's a perk for staying at an onsite resort, including the WDW DVC resorts. You also get free theme park parking with an AP.

There has never been a DVC perk that allowed for free parking at theme parks. That is and has always been a perk for any onsite guest, but not for DVC members unless actually staying onsite.

DVC members do get free valet parking at all DVC resorts (but not at other WDW resorts). You can show your DVC card for that perk.

and the valet parking is a perk that cost someone....since there ia a "paid" attendant involved..so the valet parking is coming out of dues....right???

WRONG--every place there is valet parking, it is/was being provided prior to DVC even being open (exception would be BWV where both side opened at the same time), so even though it is likely that owners at these resorts contribute some to the valet parking costs it is not appropriate, IMHO, to view this as a perk that is costing anything extra to the average member since the valet attendants would be there with or without the perk and dues, to the extent they are funding it, would still be charged.

In addition, the valets depend on gratuities for their income. Even though the valet service is free, gratuities still are greatly appreciated.

The valet service expense is at least partly shared with the hotel connected to the DVC resorts that offer the service. In no case is the total expense borne by DVC dues.

AP pass holders get free parking.

If you have a DVC or other resort parking pass on your dashboard they will wave you through.

JimB, go straight to the DVC blackboard and write 100x:

"Free Parking at the parks has never, ever been a DVC perk"

Some of the bennies do get confusing, but this one is a big "no." If you're staying onsite, you get a parking pass. If you have an AP, you're in, but daytripping DVCers gotta pay up.

So 'fess up. Are you going to be wearing a disguise when you get to the parking booth today? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

There are so many different groups that park for free, so many different looking resort IDs, that I tried an experiment. For a few day I flashed, through my closed window, my scuba diver certification card, got me in with a wave every time.

I was a resort guest, it was an experiment, I got a kick out of it.

LOL, Rich, and you got in because of the resort ID!:p

We like to see how long we can keep the parking pass on our dash after we go home. In June, we went back with the OKW pass still on our dash (from December). They waved us through.
