A positive note about Disney Cruises

If I had not been on a Disney Cruise before I might be a little nervous after reading all the negative comments on today's boards. My husband and son wanted to go on a cruise for years. NO WAY! I had no desire to be out in the ocean in a boat. Well, last July we took a 3 day cruise and we leave in two weeks for a 7 day cruise. I LOVED IT! And...it is just my husband and myself. My son is in college. I enjoyed every minute of it. The food was great, the shows were outstanding, and the family atmosphere was wonderful. Castaway Cay has plenty of shade if you go early in the morning and get a good spot. We are early risers, so it was not a problem. The motion of the boat was mild as we left Port Canavaral, but after that was hardly noticable. I ate Ginger cookies to fight any motion sickness and the cookies worked. So, if you are at all nervous, relax. Disney will take care of you!

I have been on three Disney Cruises thus far. One four day cruise and two seven day cruises. I am now planning my fourth Disney Cruise.

I adore the cruise! My teen DD's love it to pieces, too! It is like a visit to WDW - you may hear of some problems that some visitors have encountered, but the majority have a wonderful time!

The great thing about the DIScussion Forums here is that we are able to get all kinds of opinions and views on things. All I know is that the Disney Cruise gets my thumbs up, and I cannot wait to return to it once again! :)

I agree with Grumpy0831 and CarolAnnK. We have been on 2 Disney cruises and are counting down (194 days) to our next cruise in Nov. and can't wait. Our 2 cruises were the best vacations that we have ever taken ( we have been to WDW over 75 times in the past 20 years and ALWAYS stay on property usually at either the Grand Floridian, Yacht Club, Boardwalk or the Wildreness Lodge ). If you aren't happy on either of those 2 amazing ships then ypu probably will never be happy on vacation.

I agree with last post. Before we cruised last year I was skeptical and thought it couldn't live up to WDW--we go several times a year. Well we loved the cruise and can't wait til June 22. As I said on the other posts, the pools are too small and like anywhere else there are some parents who do not supervise their kids, but the cruise is wonderful and you shouldn't let a few small things overshadow what a magical vacation it is.

I may get "slammed" for this, but why all the discussion about the pools???? We advioded the pool completely and spent time on the beach. Pools, I can get else where!! Am I in the minority on this?

BTW we look the cruise so much we are actually trying to swing a 7 day!!! :D

I personally didn't care about the pool, but my 5 year old wanted to be in the Mickey pool and use the slide-so I had to stay there with him and at times it was very crowded. My 12 yr old and husband never went to the pool at all. I think people expect the same size pool as at a resort--or at least I did since it was my first cruise. I'm sure there is at least one negative point for every cruiser-not everyone wants the same thing in a vacation. I know my mother and husband really, really missed the casino, but none of that would make us not cruise Disney again.

Having been on the Magic twice and the Wonder four times - I can truly say that each cruise has been great vacations.

The first time - Dec 98 4-night - Magic was just a few months old, Christmas time, great server. My server had been an assistant server and had been promoted to server for that cruise. However, he only ended up with one table, so they moved me to another server. I really felt bad for that server - but know that he will (did) make a great server. Did the cruise solo.

Oct 99 - 4-night Wonder was just about three months old, Halloween cruise. Wonderful vacation. Server was great! Did the cruise solo. Back when they shot fireworks off in Nassau. Don't think WDW - wasn't much, but what do you expect off of a ship!

Feb 00 - Back on the Wonder - 4-night - really special server and assistant server. Read below for comments on the assistant server. Took two friends who I consider my adopted parents!

Oct 00 - Magic 7-night - really great, new shows, longer cruise, servers were OK. Halloween cruise - had a blast! The Wilsons and I again.

Nov 01 - Back on the Wonder, 3-night cruise, so fast but a nice cruise. First time for Who Wants to be a mouseketeer - premier of Monsters, Inc. The Wilsons and I again.

Dec 01 - Wonder again 4-night - and our server was the assistant server from our third cruise. Big surprize! Christmas time - and probably the best cruise of all. The Wilsons and I again.

After 6 cruises - always seeing new stuff. Saw the original Voyage of the Ghost Ship, and the changes they made to it later. They changed some of Hercules. Dreams has stayed the same - can't change something that is perfect. Saw Cest Magical (or however you say it) - waiting to see it reworked as Morty the Magician.

--- Coming ---

Oct 12, 02 - Magic for a third time, 7-night, Western! Morty the Magician! My birthday on Oct 13. The Wilsons and I again.

Add me to the group that says a Disney cruise is great and you make your own vacation fun. We are leaving for our third Disney cruise in a little over two weeks. It is only the 4 day this time, but we are planning on booking a Western 7 day for next year while on board.

There are always going to be people who are unhappy no matter what they are doing. I can't change them, but I can try not to be like them.

There are always going to be people who try and ruin it for others be it by saving chairs at the pools for hours on end or letting their kids run around crazy. Again I can't change them, I won't be like them, and if I'm really bothered by them I'll just walk away and find something else to do.

Having said all that what I have found most of all is ships filled with happy people of all ages out to have a good time. From the sailaway party to the last night and Disney Dreams. Vacation is a wonderful time so enjoy it and a Disney Cruise is to me one of the best ways to enjoy it!

Have fun everyone - you're on vacation!

We have been on two disney cruises and are doing our third this december. Our first was spring break in April (easter) last year and the ship was full- HOWEVER you really would not know it as it is so big. One thing that impressed me what they have cast members at the two kid friendly pools overseeing thing, telling kids not to be rough etc. It was busy but not overwhelming at all.)Our son is very shy but had no problem blending in with the other kids. When one child was acting up and slashing the CM asked him to cool out and it worked great. So I really would not have any worries about disney. In fact it is the only line that I feel safe with my son out of my sight on. Now carnival- at least in our experience that was a Zoo! oh yeah at the the slide too in the pool the have one CM at the top and one at the bottom to make sure no one gets hit, the kids can not go down the slide unitl it is cleared by the CM. that takes away the worry of a wild kid clobbering yours, relax and have fun Disney is the best! Ann

We (DH, DW, DD (12) and DS (7) sailed on the Magic last year ('01)during the week of Memorial Day (May 26- June2). The ship was full but I hardly noticed at all. We had great weather all week except for very brief rain shower while in St. Martin and the seas were relatively calm. No one in my family got seasick, although some of us took Bonine just in case.

The pools were busy, but not what I would call "over crowded". Our DS (7) enjoyed the Mickey Pool and the slide, and we all enjoyed some time, although brief, in the family pool. Throughout the cruise, I personally didn't witness children misbehaving and running wildly about the ship. Most, if not all, of the children we encountered were with other family members or were well behaved and friendly.

Our Disney Cruise was a wonderful experience for our children and family. My DW (Cam) and I are returning for our second Disney Cruise on the Magic on June 22 (Western), this time with no kids! We are counting the days and hours to departure. We are very confident that our cruise experience will be just as wonderful the second time around, if not more.

Vacations are what one makes of them. Relax, enjoy and have a great
cruise! No reason to worry about the little things at all.

Count me in....after five DCL cruises and #6 this booked for 8/3/02 and #7 booked for 7/19/03 we definitely like the cruise!!!! We have sailed on several different lines but keep coming back to Disney.

My hubby works for Port Authority of NY & NJ as a Police Officer. They have been working almost 7 days a week on 12 hour shift since 9/11. All vacations were cancelled until recently. He was not able to join us on our 2/23/02 cruise. He is finally being allowed to take one week off during the summer. I thought where would he be able to be pampered, eat 24 hours a day if he chooses, bask in the sun, and not worry about anything???? DCL of course...he agreed!!!! My teens were quite excited also. We will be a group of about 17!!!!

My hubby and I went on our first Disney Cruise (a three-day) as part of our honeymoon in 2000. We loved it so much we went again (seven-day) in February of 2001 with my parents and my niece. We then went on yet ANOTHER seven-day in September of 2001 with another couple. We have loved every trip and can't wait to go on another! The only reason that we aren't going this year is that we are expecting our first child, but we are already plotting to take the baby on its first cruise in the Fall of 2003! :)

I think your vacation is what you make it. If you expect that you will be the only people on the cruise, then you may be sorely disappointed, but if you take the time to chill out, relax, and take things as they come you should have a great time!

Kathy
