Today we are in Mexico (and we havent heard of H1N1 flu yet) so no worries! Well, maybe a little bit of worry due to the murders happening in this country. I convinced DH we would be safe in Cozumel and booked a day at Nachi Cocom all-inclusive beach. From reading the paperwork they emailed me, I knew we could arrive as early as we wanted to but the staff didnt start serving (drinks) until 10am and food service didnt start until 11am.
We planned to arrive at about 10am. After debarking, we had to walk through a mall to get to the taxi area. The mall was called Punta Langosta and I thought it was a nice outdoor mall and very convenient to the pier.
It was about a five-minute walk from the boat. There were a lot of people trying to sell us things as we walked through the mall but they accepted a polite no thank you without problems. I was a little on edge as we were walking to the taxi area when all of the sudden a statue reached out to grab me! I screamed, Aaaaaaa!!
Then I realized it was a man dressed up like a statue, kind of like those statue people they used to have at Epcot, if you know what I mean. After I discovered it was just a guy playing a trick on me, I had a good laugh.
At the front of the mall a man approached us and asked if we needed a taxi. He told us the price to Nachi Cocom was $16. I have heard $15 from the Disboards so I was a little suspicious. He must have read it on my face because he walked me over to a sign that listed all the prices and pointed to Nachi Cocom $16. He hailed us a cab and I asked if they had seat belts before I would get in. High maintenance, I know
I brought a folding booster seat for DS and I wanted to be sure it could be buckled in. I have heard about these crazy cab drivers in Mexico. The taxi van seemed fairly new. All the seats had seatbelts.
Our cab driver spoke English so we made some small talk with him for the fifteen-minute drive to Nachi Cocom. He recommended we go to Paradise Beach instead because he thought DS would enjoy the activities. DS is not at an age where he needs more than sand and water. I choose Nachi Cocom for DH and me. I declined the offer for Paradise Beach (though I hear people like that one too). Our cab driver drove about 100 kilometers/hour on the two-lane highway. It felt like he was going too fast but I just checked the conversion. It equals 65 mph.
When we arrived we gave the driver a $20. Im not sure if he would have had change. A couple of senoritas were waiting for us at the entrance. They took a picture of us with big sombrero hats. (They presented the picture to us later. We did not buy it. Like I want to pay $12 for a picture of me in a swimsuit
)
We entered through a big wooden gate into the Corona commercial.
There were about ten other people at the beach when we arrived. Our server, Carlos, introduced himself and got us some drinks. DH and I wasted no time ordering our first of our unlimited adult beverages.
We played in the sand for about an hour.
Then we went to check out the fresh water pool. Yah, fresh water. I read it was salt water somewhere on the internet.
There was a swim up bar but I wanted to look at the food and drink menu so I walked around the other side of the bar. The bartender asked me what I wanted. I ordered a strawberry margarita while I looked at the menu. As the bartender made my drink, Carlos walked up with an upset look on his face and said to me, What do you want? I told him that I had placed an order. I guess I wasnt supposed to do this. Carlos went behind the bar and mumbled some angry words to the bartender. I was able to make out Es Mi Chica! Oops
They work hard for those tips! I went back to our table by the pool, baffled. I was trying not to laugh and quietly explained the story to DH so he didnt try to place an order at the bar too.
Carlos brought me my strawberry margarita and took our appetizer order. After a short period of time, the food was ready. We got nachos and guacamole. It was so fresh and yummy.
DH was very happy about the Mexican cheese. I think the guacamole was the best I ever tasted.
The menu was in pesos. I was confused for a few seconds.
While we ate we spotted a big lizard.
Instead of ordering the main course right away, we opted to swim for a bit. We went back to the ocean for a couple of hours. Carlos kept up with the drink orders
All that swimming worked up an appetite. We ordered fajitas, tacos, and enchiladas. DS did not eat much of his tacos so DH and I helped him. I wish we had Mexican food this good back home.

Enchiladas
After we ate, DS was starting to get a little crabby. It was past his usual naptime. We swam for a little while longer in the pool though.
Then, unfortunately, the time had come to say good-bye. Carlos called us a cab and brought us two more Coronas. We tipped him $40 for all his hard work. I figured it was the least I could do as his chica.
A cab arrived within ten minutes and we were off to the Mickey boat.
