I hope the vet can come up with some good solution to help her, but if not the most humane thing for her would be to put her down so she doesn't suffer. You might get a second opinion before you make that decision, though. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

A month ago we had to put down our epileptic lab/shepherd mix. He was on phenobarbitol since he was young and had gotten to the point of the same kind of bouts of seizures as you describe. Our vet prescribed potassium bromide to go along with the phenobarbitol.

Keep in mind extended use of phenobarbitol can cause liver damage (that's why we had to put down our dog). Potassium bromide doesn't cause liver damage.

I am so sorry for what you are having to go through. As I posted today, we just lost our dog of nine years. It is SO hard to lose your pet. I am sending {{{HUGS}}} and hoping that your vet is able to do something for your furbaby. Believe me I know the pain you are going through!!

oh sandi...i'm so sorry! i hope the vet has better news for you! i know what you're going through though. it's an agonizing decision, but we have to what's best for the animal. my ex-husband's cat had to be put down and it was the saddest thing that i had ever done. then my brother's dog which was so very old was just not himself anymore. he wouldn't move, eat, or drink. so we made the decision to put him down. that was hard...i hope that things work out for you!! and just remember the good times you've had with your dog!!
