Hi,
I was wondering if anyone know a good resort in WDW with a large pool or a lagoon where someone could do their triathalon training?

I have a friend who wants to go to WDW but he is in the middle on training and he wants a large pool (minus a lot of kids) to train in.
He said something about swimming in one of the lagoons... is that allowed?

Thank you!

No swimming in the lagoons. Signs are posted. For races they have paperwork they must sign that states the dangers of swimming in lakes.

no lagoon swimming - bacteria lives there that will do very bad things to his health.

AKL has a nice long pool - if he gets up earlier (and I mean early) - or late - the kids will be at a miniumum.

This is the web site for the National Traning Center, about a 30 minute drive from WDW. They have two pools that are designed for lap swimming and training, as well as running and bicycling facilities and support. If he will ahve a car, this is the way to go--the facilities open at 5:00 am, early enough to get a good training session in and be done in time to join his family for breakfast.

Ducklite beat me to posting about the NTC. Nice facility up there!

Resort alternatives would be Swan/Dolphin...they have lap pools (Dolphin's is currently blocked off in a refurb area, but Swan's is open) that are at least 25 meters long. And I think there is a long lap-type pool at Coronado Springs.

AKL's pool is not a bad option, if you get there when there aren't a bunch of people playing.

The bowling pin pool at Pop is long enough to do some laps in, too, if you can catch it at a not-so-busy time.

(note: not promoting pool-hopping...would suggest that the triathlete in question book his/her stay at one of these hotels).

Definitely can only swim in the lagoon or Bay Lake during an event. I wouldn't even try that, esp. with all the boat traffic.

And you beat me to posting the Swan and Dolphin. He would have to stay at one of those resorts, though. The lap pools are the quiet pools and are not themed at all. They are outside and lined with lanes. I'm not sure I have ever seen a kid in there. I have seen people doing laps, though. The poolsare almost never crowded and all he would have to do is just ask anyone there to clear a lane so he can do his training.

if you are going to have him up at 5:00 am - then definitely go with AKL.

some parents won't let the kids in the pool until the lifeguard show up - around 9 to 10 am.

others will but didn't see a kid in the pool earlier than 8:30am when I was there in Sept - have a roof/pool view.

at night kids seem to start being less at 10pm and no kids after midnight even the teens were gone.

the AKL is 24 hours. the slide (big kid magnetic) is only open when the life guards are there.

WOW!!!
You guys are AWESOME!!!
Thank you... :)

However, some of the pools are closed off to swimming early in the morning since that is when they do the pool maintenance (shocking, cleaning, etc).
