A joint Liberal/Conservative thread. NO DEBATES!!

Oh my! A number of master-domain/dancing banana comments come to mind, none suitable for a family board.

For the first time, I do believe I'll remain speechless. :teeth:

I always said the lobby reminds me of the Titanic movie set. I almost expect Captain Smith to go walking by!

We went to the character buffet at the GF several weeks ago and while we were waiting for "our time", we sat in the lobby. I had fantasies of some cop walking over and nudging me with a club saying "keep moving, lady". I instinctively knew I didn't belong there. ;)

We've stayed offsite all the times before. And, we've had really great resorts and a couple of less-than-mediocre ones. Last time we were at one of those resorts you had to watch a time share. Oh, I was hoping my dh would bite, but did he? NOPE! :confused3

Anyways, I hate doing that, because it completely cuts into your plans. And, they are so annoying. So, this time, I thought I really wanted to do Disney the right way. . . extra magic evenings, special treatment, dining plan, etc. I'm so so excited. And, my dh is about half as excited. . . which is great, by the way, for him! :) The kids, obviously, can't wait. Everytime the little one (3) sees anything Disney, she says "We're going here in 'tember. They'll hug me. They love me".

First timer at a Disney resort! Good for you and you'll love it. That first time really is magic and you just take in the whole ambience. You get to live the dream.

Watching the general good feelings and comradery on this thread reminds us just how accurate the old rule was: "Never talk about sex, religion or politics".

Or refillable mugs...

My family stayed there years ago, before the volcano pool arrived. The grounds are full of tropical plants and the staff is friendly with lots of "aloha". I prefer the real Polynesia as it's more scenic, but the WDW version is the next best thing. Plus you get a view of a castle! :teeth:

I completely agree about the GF, though. I've been inside the lobby and while it's pretty and I'm sure the rooms must be nice, I think it's too girly for me. I'm not the flowery type either.

We stayed at POFQ on our last trip, but we visited the AKL twice to eat at Boma. When I first walked into the lobby, I admit thinking to myself, "why aren't we staying here?"
Must be the name Laura! :sunny: Hey, do you have people who insist on calling you Laurie? It used to upset my parents so much when people would call me that. Me, eh, not so much. I just think it is funny.

Bahahahaha!!! :rotfl2:
I guess it all depends on if he wants company while he's being the master of his domain! :rolleyes1

Ok, I'm going to :stir: a little. ;)
Personally, I love the Grand Floridian! True, it's a bit stuffy in appearance, but the guest rooms are gorgeous! I love muted colors and subtle theming. The Mousekeeping staff walks across the resort in the morning with little Mary Poppin parasols! Very 1900! The Poly is on my list of resorts I eventually want to stay at, but my Mom is a GF groupie. The Contemporary, on the other hand, looks way to bright and noisy for me. I saw a picture once of the inside of the guest rooms. Wow was it bright! :3dglasses

Here is a pic of the GF rooms. Pardon the unmade beds!

GF - definitely not my style. :bitelip:

I like the more natural, earthy feel of the AK rooms.

My all time favorite is the CBR. I know a lot of people don't like it, but we had a court yard view on the third floor in the Aruba building and loved it. It was quiet, romantic, very tropical, very breezey, very secluded, just perfect for an escape. The walk to Old Port Royale took extra time, but there was always the internal bus that would take you over if you didn't want to do the walk. The walk was just wonderful though! We went across the little lake, through a palm tree crowded tiny cay, where various parrots and birds were caged. It was like a mini-zoo rising out of no where. On the other side of the cay was a small playground. I loved it. Loved the food court, loved the drinks, loved the refillable mugs. :teeth:

Funny you should mention CBR Maggie, I had a hard time deciding between CBR and POFQ when picking a moderate. Nobody really had a lot of good things to say about it but I still wanted to stay there. It appealed to me, but POFQ won out. Next mod stay though, I think I'll give it a try. Thanks for the room location. I'll keep it in mind.

LOL! That's too funny, because the next moderate stay I'm going to try POFQ! I never thought I would stay there, but then I saw the alligator themed pool and I was sold. Anyone with an irrational fear of alligators just has to stay there at least once. :lmao:

My next value is going to be Pop. I hear they have chocolate marshmallow cheesecake. :hyper:

I've decided I'd like to stay at each and every place in WDW. It's a new goal. Not a bad goal. :teeth:

That's a goal worth going for!

We've stayed at All-Stars and Pop Century. The only moderate we've stayed at is POR. We've camped at Ft Wilderness and as DVC members we've stayed at BCV. Whenever I think about staying somewhere like the Poly or Contemporary (and I just think it would be cool to stay at a monorail resort) I look at the rate and remember my $50 night deals at the values and I promptly forget all about the monorail. It's a sickness I tell you!

What's the buzz on Coronado Springs?
I've stayed at Carribbean Beach and N.O. Riverside (back when it was Dixie Landings). Of the two, I preferred Riverside.

That's one sickness I never had and it would probably be good if I caught it! ;)

Richie? Did you have chocolate marshmallow cheesecake while you were at Pop?! :hyper:

This is how I plan to stay on my next WDW trips. Will still has a say in things, so I may just be dreaming here :teeth:

Pop Century - I really want to swim in the Hippy Dippy Pool. :teeth: Maybe I'll just have to go over there our next trip, just to get that cheesecake!
AKL
POFQ
Polynesian
Contemporary
Coronado Springs
Beach Club

That's a start!
