A joint Liberal/Conservative thread. NO DEBATES!!

I'd never want to go alone. Never. I really like doing things with dh. I could go without the kids before I'd want to go without dh. I always see something I want to share with him, you know?

Never been solo. I've been with the kids and just DW and I. I gotta tell you, I really enjoy the adults only trips.

I was out and about today and saw this bumper sticker and I'm embarrassed to say...I didn't get it. Can you explain it to me?

It said:

Annoy a Liberal:
Work hard, Succeed, Be Happy

Why would that annoy a liberal? Isn't that what everyone, regardless of party affiliation strives for?

I seriously just did.not.get.it. :confused3

Am I missing something?

In an attempt to protect our fragile truce, I've sent you the explanation in a PM.

Now back to our regularly scheduled Disney discussion.

Good Grief! What's happened here?

I'm away for a while and come back to find ya'll holding hands and singing Kumbaya (or something like it!)

It's like an alternate reality DIS. :teeth:

I've only been on that ride once, and that was under extreme duress and pressure. I was so focused on not hyperventilating from fear that I don't even remember a pre-show. Surely it's not as bizarre as this thread? :teeth: :teeth:

I take both solo and travel buddy (usually my Mom, BF wants to wait until there are kiddies to take  ) trips to WDW almost every year. The biggest drawback for me on the solo trips is food. I don't like eating at table service places by myself. So, on solo's I only eat counter service. I get a lot more done in a short time, but at the expense of nutrition and good taste!

I'd probably feel funnier doing the rides by myself, although I would love the freedom to just go where I wanted without having to both agree where and when etc. I don't think the solo TS meals would bother me unless I went to a character buffet or something. I would never do that alone. I'll get up my nerve and try the solo gig one day!

I'll second this one! My first trip was offsite when I was a teenager. While it was fun, the magic just wasn't there like it was when as an adult I stayed on site. Jus knowing you don't have to leave, just knowing you are surrounded by it all. :cloud9: We could stay at SOG, but since dh's very first trip ever was at the CR, he won't even try it. He says he would rather go every 2 or 3 years and stay on the monorail and be in a Disney resort than SOG. I would be willing to try it, but he's hooked!

Also, thanks Charade! This is a great idea. I am so glad I get to "see" the real people, and not just the politics side of them.

That's the only downside of onsite! I stayed 11 days at the Poly last year and am now so totally spoiled I will find it hard to stay at even a moderate again, and believe me, I loved POFQ. I'm with your DH. The monorail resorts are the best! I left the Poly kicking and screaming, threatening to chain myself to a tiki torch!

Quick question on the Poly. Is it a pain to walk from the buildings that are farthest out to the main bldg? It looks so spread out.

I had to convince him to try the tower at CR. He was just so happy with our wing room last time. We are a family of 5, and when we were planning our first trip, it had to be th CR. I remembered looking at it as a teenager and thinking how lucky the people were who got to stay there. I would have liked to try the Poly, but somehow the CR won out again. I can't wait to see what the new rooms are like in person. ( I also can't wait to see how the other half lives!) I can't wait to try some yummy desserts in the lounge!

Wow, I never thought I would see the day. faints.

I read a really interesting book today called Thr3e by Ted Dekker. He is a Christian author, but Christianity doesn't play a huge role except for 2 or 3 parts, and a passage from Romans at the end. Hear me out.

At the book's core, a man is literally thrown into a real life battle between good and evil, and he is caught in between. Hence the name Thr3e. Good, Evil, and the man (representative of humanity) caught inbetween. The book is very thought provoking, and Dekker is an amazing storyteller of the thriller genre. I would go further into the significance of the three (no it is not the Trinity) but it would give the WHOLE book away.

He gets a phone call that if he doesn't confess his sin to the world in three minutes (did I mention the bad guy has an obsession with the number three) his car will explode. He gets out and his entire world falls apart. An old childhood friend returns as well as an FBI agent who believes the bad guy also killed her brother. Along the way, the killer keeps giving clues dealing with his sin that are also in opposites. Time given to answer is in increments of 3. They also realize that nothing is what is what it seems. Is the main character being framed for all the explosions, or is something much more sinister at the prowl?

If you are looking for a book to read, look no further.

We had ressies for a character breakfast at Chef Mickey's during a trip last year while we were staying at the Contemporary. The breakfast was on the last morning, and the night before we were up extremely late at the Not-So-Scary-Halloween-Party (a lot of fun, by the way).

When the alarm clock went off, Mrs. Mugg & the Muggette were too tired to answer the bell, so I decided I'd take advantage of ressies that didn't require leaving the hotel and I went downstairs. I grabbed the morning papers and was seated right away as a solo in a far corner of Chef Mickey's. At that time in the real world, Michael Eisner had just announced he was stepping down, and there were lots of stories then about rumored changes to WDW because of the upcoming transition. It's very interesting to read about a proposed renovation to the Contemporary while you're sitting in it.

I figured as a solo male adult reading the paper with tons of little kids around me that I would get a superficial hand shake at best from the characters. Wrong. Goofy saw me finishing the last piece of bacon on my plate, and got another one for me, making a big show of it all the time. Mickey came over, pulled out the empty seat on the other side of the table and grabbed the sports section while people at the tables around me snapped pic after pic.

At that point, I offered Mickey the next section on the pile of papers without looking. It was the help wanted section. We both looked at the header at the same time, and I looked Mickey in the eye and in a low voice said "Now more than ever, eh?". Mickey looked to his left then to his right, and then looked straight at me and in an impossibly subtle gesture for fear of being caught was nodding his head up and down in tacit agreement.

I was on the floor dying of laughter. No one else around us caught it, and that truly made it a "magical moment" at Disney. And one more thing....for the first time all vacation, no camera with me at the time. I'd kill to have that shot of Mickey on the other side of the table from me reading the help wanted section.

Moral of the story, folks....Don't hesitate to go solo. You never know what will happen next!

One of he things I like when going solo compared to two or more in a group is you don't hear things like...

"Hurry up and take the damn picture!!"

or

"Another picture of the Castle? How many do you need?!?"

or

"where do you want to eat??"

For the most part, solo rides don't bother me. Although I do feel a bit stupid by myself in the little pirate ship on Peter Pan's Flight! However, by the time Peter yells "And off we go!" I'm over it! :thumbsup2

I agree about Monorail hotels. When Mom and I go, we split the cost and stay in the Grand Floridian. On my solo trips, I stay at a moderate. Every time I get on the resort bus, I'm longing for "Please stand clear of the doors..."

Oh that is the funniest thing. . . I love that ride, though. It was being refurbished the last time we went, so I haven't been on it for about 5 years. My 14 year old loves it, too. We were all teary-eyed last time we were on it. I know, I know. . . .

They did a nice job on the refurb. Everything is very bright and sparkly. I think they added some countries too.

Which ride are you referring to?

No kidding! And not to mention mindnumbingly boring!!! ;)

I think this thread could quite possibly be the first to be moved from the Community Board to the Theme Parks Attractions and Stategies Forum. For shame, people, for shame!

I thought it would be a pain also but it really wasn't. Even Tahiti, the farthest away from the GCH was an okay walk. The only drawback was to make the trek to Captain Cook's to fill up your mug after a long day. On the plus side, it's a short walk to the TTC from most longhouses so you can take a direct monorail to Epcot. VERY convenient! I'd love to try a CR Tower room. GF just doesn't do it for me somehow.
