We stopped off at our room to drop of the cakes, and then wandered down to the marina to check in for our fireworks cruise!
Steve spotted the Grand Yacht 1 and asked if I was going to surprise him with that rather than a pontoon boat… not this trip unfortunately! Maybe in the future – it did look lovely, a family had rented it for a birthday party that evening.
Although I hadn’t surprised my husband with the yacht, I had ordered two glasses of pink champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries for our cruise! And as luck would have it, he went off to the restrooms just as the private dining cast member came down to the marina with our food items, so Steve didn’t see them be put on the boat or me signing the receipt.
Cinderella Castle from the marina..
Monorail..
Just before 9pm we met our skipper, Bob, and got onboard our boat..
(I liked his hidden Mickey glow sticks!)
We had been on an Illuminations cruise back in 2009 with Steve’s family and my DIS friends Jen & Vinnie… this time it felt funny just to be the two of us onboard!
We sailed out onto the Seven Seas Lagoon, stopping for a moment to let the Electric Water Pageant floats go by
Ferry boats..
We went over the aquaduct near the Contemporary and into Bay Lake.
Bob was a really nice Cast Member, he’d worked for Disney for a long time and seemed to genuinely enjoy his job. We got talking about our cruise, he said he’d been on the Wonder but his wife now really wanted to sail on the Dream!
It was lovely to see the Contemporary and Bay Lake Tower from the other side..
In the distance we heard the final fireworks exploding in Illuminations, which lit up the sky..
I asked Bob where River Country and Discovery Island were (I’d visited the water park back in 1993!) and he sailed us over to where they were. Discovery Island was covered in those huge white storks that you see in the parks – apparently the whole island is covered in birds so it would be hard for Disney to redevelop the area without upsetting the habitat now! River Country was a little eery as we could still see parts of the slides and other building through the trees – Bob used a huge flash light to point things out to us… including an alligator in the water!
As we past Wilderness Lodge, Bob showed us how the back of the lobby is designed to look like the face of a bear..
Here we came to a stop in Bay Lake and watched the Electrical Water Pageant..
Video here (the first half is quite dark while the floats got into place)..
Then it was time to head back to the Seven Seas Lagoon – and get ready for Wishes!
Magic, Memories & You..
Bob handed us our glasses of bubbly (this wasn’t quite what I had imagined – it was more like sangria, but tasted ok!) and took our photo..
He took another one as he was concerned the castle hadn’t been in the first shot..
The cruise also included soda and snacks, so we had some cans of diet coke & a few of the strawberries – but I think we were still full from ‘Ohana to really enjoy them!
