Hi again folks! Sorry for the delay. It has been a busy week or so as usual and I promised Tinkgurl that i wouldn't write too much of my report while she was on her trip. Then I went away this weekend to visit family for the holiday. But I am finally ready to finish up Day 1 of the Kyle and Lauren extravaganza!!
So when I left off, we were leaving PTC with full bellies and zero fun stories from the lackluster waitstaff, but that wasn't going to bring us down. We were off to try and meet some Star Wars characters! I don't think Kyle expected to see people actually dressed up for SW Weekends, but they sure were! We saw many a jedi and princess leia. But unfortunately, our efforts to meet the real "stars" were squashed. I've never seen such long lines for characters! Chewbaca was out, and Kyle was excited to try and meet him, but then we saw that the line went allll they way from Star Tours to Sci Fi Cafe! I think Princess Leia and some others were out too (I'll have to leave it to my Star Wars buff fiance to really name them haha) but all the lines were terrible. Nope, we are not huge character people anyways so we decided to try back later. We ditched the lines and headed in to ride Star Tours, which despite the crowd outside was a walk on, woo hoo!
Here we experienced yet another CM looking for a party of 2 to fill a ride vehicle, so we hopped on quick and took our (almost) trip to Endor. When we were exciting the ride through the store, it was crazy how many people were in there buying shirts and making lightsabers! Disney must make a fortune off the merchandise from those weekends! Everywhere we went the whole week we saw TONS of people wearing Star Wars stuff.
At that point I think we decided to head over to Backlot Tour. We weren't going to try to do any of the big rides this day (by big I mean FP required) and this was closed for refurb last trip. At first we thought this was a bad idea because Lights, Motors, Action was just letting out so the masses were pouring into the BLT line. Just as we were walking in, DF caught a glimpse of a Storm Trooper roaming around, so he quickly followed him and tried to get a quick picture. Alas, just as we caught up to him and i had the camera out and ready, the darn thing walked backstage! Grrr it seemed these characters were not in the cards for us this day! So we went back to the line and only waited about 10 mins before the little special effects preshow started.
I must say, I'm not a huge fan of the redos. The voiceover is kinda boring and the Catastrophe Canyon part is much less fun, but I still love the movie props and the costume part so it's cool. My sister is starting her College Program next month, maybe they were making her costume!!
As we were rounding the corner near the backstage area of LMA, we saw a golf cart with two management looking guys in suits speeding towards something in the road. I looked to see what they were hurrying towards, and realized that there was a dead rabbit in the road!! It must have been hit during the last show by one of the speeding stunt cars! The men quickly threw a cardboard box over it, but it was too late, our tour had seen it. Ooops, I bet Disney did not want that image of roadkill engrained on all the guest's brains. I mean C'mon, bunnies don't die at the happiest place on earth! LMAO
As we were exciting the Tour, we noticed the storm troopers were out again! They were just wandering around meeting people like the characters used to do in the good old days before there was the craziness of handlers and photopass. DF jumped in a picture with one quick, and I guess he was acting like a tough guy because the Stormtrooper tapped on his gun as if to warn him to watch it!
They were really into character, it was so funny. Another guy who was even bigger than 6'4 Kyle chimed in "I think we can take them!" It was so funny.
Happy that we finally experienced a bit of Star Wars weekend, we decided to head over to Muppet Vision 3D. I did a little singin' in the rain on the way:
Too bad the mist didn't work when I tugged the umbrella, it was getting hot! We also paused to meet the Cars because there was no line at all and I have a 5 year old cousin who loves them. Very cute!
Then it was finally on to muppets. This show is my favorite of all the 3D movies, I always find something new to crack up about. Of course we took a 3D glasses picture!
Afterwards we poked around the Muppets store and the Christmas store. DHS definitely has the best shopping of all the parks IMO! We stopped to see if the lines for the characters were any better, but there was still massive crowds waiting to meet Chewbaca, and now R2D2. I was willing to wait since we wouldn't be at DHS at all the following weekend, but Kyle said for get it and we decided to head to the animation studio instead.
I had read so much about the drawing lessons from others on the boards, and I was determined to finally try this after missing it the last two trips darn it! There was practically no one there, so after watching some poor, well intentioned but mumbling CM tell us all about Mushu (this little show is cute but gets old quick, we never knew you could skip this part by cutting through the gift shop instead!), we made our way to the class. We waited about 15 minutes, and it was so worth it. I don't know if Kyle knew what to expect, but I think he loved it more than I did! It didn't hurt that we drew Donald, his all time favorite. They came out so cute! Kyle holding his masterpiece:
The artist was telling us fun Disney facts the whole time, like how Mickey's original name was Mortimer and Minnie is short for Minerva. Our pictures came out really well, and we decided that we would definitely be back later in the week for another class. Pleased by our new found talent in cartooning, we decided to head down Sunset Boulevard and see what the waits were for things. RnRC was super long as always (we sadly only road this once the whole week, bummer!), but ToT was only 30 mins so we hopped in. The posted wait time was very wrong, we waited not even 10 mins I think before were road! I never mind this wait because i think the theming is SO cool. ToT is one of my alltime favorites, so this was a first of many rides on it this trip! We dropped too many times to count, it was so fun! I love it so much but I still clutch Kyle's arm for dear life the entire time! Here is our badly rednecked photo, you can see us in the first two seat of the front left row:
After riding and perusing the ToT gift shop for a few, I decided i wanted to check the Beauty and the Beast show times. The next show happened to be starting in about 10 minutes so the timing was great. We walked right in and found great seats, it wasn't very crowded at all. Poor DF really dislikes all things girly, but he kindly obliged his fiance and sat through this. I hadn't seen it in years and forgot how great it was. It is my favorite Disney movie so I really enjoyed it...Kyle eye-rolled a little but i think he liked it too
It was really funny because the park was playing Star Wars music nonstop, so anytime there was a quiet moment in the show you could hear the theme music. It sounded very odd and funny!
We exited the theater and decided that we were ready for some dinner. On our trip in January 08, we were staying at BWV but the amusment park pool was underrefurbishment, so we were lucky enough to get to use Stormalong Bay during the end of our trip. While we were over there, we stumbled upon Beaches n' Cream and got an awesome coke float. While we were there, we said that we def wanted to go back sometime to try the food, especially after reading how great the burgers are. So we decided that we were due for a theme park break and headed for the exit to hop the boat to Yacht and Beach. Yay! We shopped our way out of DHS as always, and were exiting just as a boat was loading. Woo hoo our timing could not get any better this day! We hopped on and happened to snag the last two seats, lucky us. My back had been a bit sore this day so it was a much needed rest. DF suggested getting off at Swolphin and walking over, but I was enjoying my boat ride too much and we stayed on until we got to BC.
I was slightly nervous because this was my first time ever eating at a Disney restaurant with no ressie (my inner control freak did not like this feeling lol) and being 6pm I didn't know what the wait would be like, but it seemed our luck was still running because they happened to have an open table for two right away! We couldn't get over how smooth this day went.
Kyle and I sat down at our little table next to the ice cream line and as soon as our butts hit the seats exhaustion hit us. We had been going non stop for 14 hours now on about 4 hours of sleep, and we were beat. I sucked down a pink lemondade, for some reason I drank a zillion of those this trip, and Kyle got an orange soda. I ordered the cheeseburger and fries and he got a double because he was starving.
Boy, were they good! I definitely thought this place lived up to the good reviews. Our server was very friendly and the place was so cute.
Happily stuffed, but still extremely tired, we decided to mosey through Epcot and head to the bus. For some reason the entire SAB area was closed. Something must have happened in the pool? We coudln't figure out what the heck happened but there were a ton of lifeguards making sure no one got anywhere near it. We had to walk all the way down to the lobby of BC and out to the marina area, it was very odd. Just as we were coming up on International Gateway, we looked up and saw a rainbow! It was huge and beautiful, I counted it as a sign of very good things to come this week
The sunset was gorgeous this night!
Upon stepping into Epcot for first the first time, our original game plan was to check out France and Morocco and maybe a ride or two before going to the bus. But my stomach was feeling sick all of the sudden, I think I was just beyond tired. We had gotten so much in already at DHS that we decided to head to the front exit. We took it slow and enjoyed the sites, there were some leftover flower and garden displays so we stopped for pictures of those. So cute!
