A Giraffe meets the Beach - A Hoilday Lights Extra - Updated 12/23

I guess we must have similar tastes in room decor!! :goodvibes Which isn't surprising since we both love AKL. I wonder wether they might update the BCV rooms at some point in the near future. BWV just got a refurbishment and I think the rooms there were very much improved in the colour scheme. I just don't get it how Disney used to mix colours and patterns... The hallways on the other hand look lovely. Thanks for all the resort pictures!

The Beach Club rooms look a bit meh to me...I don't mind the colors, but that sitting area looks horribly dated...those chairs are odd. Did it look like that in person, or did it flow better? I wasn't a fan of the BWV pictures online of the Studio, but when we got there I really liked it, it was MUCH better in person and I'm hoping the same for the BCV! Or that they will be refurbed soon.

I think it is now a bit dated. It really did seem like we could have been in a Best Western or something like that with the decor. The room size was nice, but it could use a decorating upgrade. BWV were much improved once they got the upgrade.

Getting through 40 $ worth of food and drink that quickly is scary! :scared1: I am seriously considering wether getting the deluxe dining plan for part of my trip next year might be a good option to use the snack credits at F&W...

I think part of our problem was we went for the most expensive things...the slushies were almost $20 by themselves! :scared1: Since we were not on the DDP, I did not notice if everything food wise could be bought with it or if it was just certain items. Be sure to look into that.

I am here! I didn't realize you were there the same time as us! I wish I would have tried more things at F&W. Glad to see you are safe on the ground in Orlando!

I knew a couple people would be there, but it seemed like the trip was suddenly upon us and I had no time to try and contact everybody to see if we could set up meets. I hope to be better about that next time. :goodvibes

I was getting nervous there for a while with you hungry and crabby and you kept hitting roadblocks--but the smile with the slushie drink relieved me! You were in your happy place and finally fed!

We should have just gone right into Epcot, but noooo, we had to do everything the hard way. What was worse, it was totally my fault since I did not check the times for the restaurant. :headache: All I saw was they had French Onion Soup on the menu and I think i had tunnel vision.

After just relaxing a bit (we had been up since early early in the morning) we left to explore just a bit more on our way to dinner at Cape May. The BC/BCV is just stunning at night.

Even the smoking area was beautiful.

We checked in and were handed a buzzer. Arg found a chair that was almost her size.

By the amount of people milling around and waiting, I figured we were in for a long wait, but our buzzer went off after only five minutes or so. We were seated in a booth fairly close to the buffet, although it took our server a bit of time to come over and acknowledge us. He finally did, and I started the trip off right – with a glow cube drink! :rotfl:

DH even started with a tropical drink.
IMG_3327.jpg

As I said, I am not a seafood person, with the exception of lobster, which I’m sure DH regrets getting me to eat in the past year. I have tried crab legs when he’s had them, and they were decent, so I hoped I’d find something. While we didn’t take pictures of the buffet, it was pretty extensive and had chicken, beef, salads, in addition to all the seafood.

DH’s first plate – he said he was just tasting to begin.

My first plate.
IMG_3330.jpg

Yep – I tried the crab legs. I had a hard time getting anything out of mine as they were really small…DH said I needed to look for bigger ones.

I must say I also had the chicken and wow – that, the beef and even the mashed potates tasted like a pound of pepper had been dropped on or in them. :sad2: I am a pepper fan, but this was really over the top. Thankfully, I went back for more crab legs, I think the only thing that did not have pepper on them.
IMG_3332.jpg

These were bigger and much easier to eat….we’ll except for the piece that went flying across the restaurant somewhere. :rotfl2: They were pretty good, thankfully, since I could not take any more pepper from everything else.
I then ended my meal with a nice salad and a couple of boiled potattes with DH had loved.
IMG_3333.jpg

I think I had the bottom of the potates as they were really watery. DH said his were not like that, so maybe mine were just sitting there for awhile.
By the time we got to dessert I was full, DH was not. His plate –

We were also brought a celebration dessert for our anniversary.

By the time we were finished, it had emptied out.

This was the painting about our table.

We got the check, and even that presentation was themed with taffy in the holder.

Overall it wasn't a bad meal - we might go back, but it certainly did not make the "must" visit restaurants list.

I then realized that it was almost time for illuminations. So we headed back up to see if we could see anything. I’m glad we did we could just see the top of Canada and all the high fireworks with no problem and also saw a bunch through the trees. If those trees outside our windows ever fell down, it would be an unobstructed view. We could also hear the music, so it was a perfect way to end our first day at Disney. Tomorrow would be busy, but who knew you could do three parks in one day and not ride any rides…..

I just wanted to pop in before things get too crazy and wish everyone a very
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Tracy, Merry Christmas to you! Your house is very impressive!! Thanks for posting the pictures! :goodvibes

A belated Merry Christmas! I love all the pics from the Beach Club. I never got around to seeing the Villa side, so I love getting to take a peek through your pictures.

Tracy I would starve to death if I had to live on crab legs. They say there's an art to eating them but it's a lost art on me, I end up beating them on the edge of the table to see if I can get any meat out ot them that way. By the way, man, your house looks fantastic, congratulations!
Let us know how much your electric bill jumps from all your hard work.:lmao:

I have yet to try crab legs...I wouldn't even know how to get the meat outta there!

I LOVE your decorations too. I remember you giving some stats last year on how long it took you to set-up, but I can't remember...how long did it take this year? How cool to be featured on the news too! I'd love to see the video!

welcome home! merry christmas and happy new year!

first, you house looks SO CHEERY!!! I LOVE it! (all we have is a string of lights around the garage. (but then, we are in a townhouse)

I loved your pictures. Iabsolutely fell in love with BCV. I kept looking at your pics, as you caught our room in a few of them.. we were right over that canal, and could see the pool from our room. we really scored!

that smoking area at the villas pool, Nebo fell in love. I thought he might just grab a pillow and blankie and sleep there! we spaent some time at that pool and really liked it.

I, too, found out later in life that I love lobster. (have you ever tried the whole Maine Lobster at Narcosses? yum)
crab legs? eh, not so much. I think what you had there was Snow crab legs. not as much meat as the King crab legs.
when we ate a Cape May, I swore I would try the oysters and mussels. (since if I didn't like them it would be noe big $ loss, being a buffet).. paople at the restauratn where I work love the mussles appetizer, in garlic butter. but... sigh.. I chickened out.

can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip!!!
