A Gem of a trip-quality, clarity, color and "Cut that out!" completed 8/4

wow it sounds like you used to do alot of this stuff......should be easy for you then. I have never done this stuff...swim competitions but nothing else.
I know what you mean about time ....I guess that is why the only time of day I get to the Y is from 530am-715am.....otherwise I wouldn't get there either. It is a nice time of day to do it...then you're done for the day!!
I am actually going to do a tri in Welland in June (i think it's june) and if that is fun then maybe the one the Y has in August in Cobourg. ....and if that goes well....maybe disney in January????...hmmmm a means to get back.....
If I don't make plans to do it now and train for it I won't so it gives me a new goal to work towards until I can the fall when I can start swimming competitively again.
Sounds like you have alot coming up to look forward to.
I thought maybe we'd be there the same weekend as you in April but I checked your dates and we are a weekend off!! My Dh is booking a work "course" in Orlando for a few days that week so I get to tag along and we can do grown up stuff again for most of the week. yeah.

I used to lead the 6am classes. Because again if I didn't do it then I never would.

Isn't it convient that Hubby has do to his courses in Orlando?

And I never said I did well at the races. I just said I beat my own personal best. My first Tri they lumped me in with the men who left 15 minutes earlier and when they posted the times mine looked even more horrific than they were.

When it gets warmer we should run together. We can pretend it's a Disney one.

Just read your trip report from the start. We were down there around the same time as you. I think the meltdowns my DS5 had were mainly due to Fay. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. ::yes::

:welcome: So glad you posted!

The weather really put a downer on everyone didn't it? Wearing plastic ponchos and not being able to bask in the sun and hang at the pool for 5 days put a huge strain on my family.

I kept watching the weather maps on TV and it was so depressing to see Fay just hanging around. Plus there was that element of fear if she did become an actual storm.

I know I keep harping on the bad weather in my report but it made a huge impact on my vacation. Things were cancelled, we were stuck in a small hotel room (how I missed that family suite at ASMu from last year) for our afternoon breaks while the pools went empty. It totally effected my families mood. Mine included. So yes, I would agree that Fay contributed to your DS5 meltdowns.

Just got a message from my TA. Today is the 90 day mark. She got me all the ADR's I wanted while I slept in. Totally excited!

:cool1: :dancer: :jumping1: party: :jumping1: :dancer: :cool1:

Here's a plug for Christine from Fairytale Destinations. You Rock!

Yes, I agree - Christine from FD&D DOES so totally rock!! I've sent anyone who's thinking about a Disney trip to her - and they all love her too :thumbsup2 I'm so excited, I just spoke to her this morning and booked a WDW trip this fall for us :cool1: I love my husband :goodvibes

Oh, and I couldn't run any distance if my life depended on it, so my hat is off to you - you go, girl!!!! :cheer2:

Looking forward to your next installment! ::yes::

Wow, lots of characters inside the star tours area. So fun to hear about Jedi being so chatty.

You...a meltdown...say it isn't so;)

Rain, ponchos, wet, yeah , i'm just getting to that part in my Tr. Looking at the pics, yuck.

Glad you got all your adr's. I just spent the better part of a week looking at prices for a potential client and really sounded hopeful and now she says with the dollar so bad she thinks they will do room only. I get the feeling she is booking with someone else. Oh well, not much I can do.

can't wait for the next installment.popcorn::

I realize that this trip report is taking me forever and a day. I mean I only have 89 days until I head to Disney again and at this rate I won't be finished this one. So I'm speeding up.:moped:

Jedi and I met up with the others in the gift shop at the end of Star Tours. We spend a fair bit of time in there. Dh helped Jedi pick out a surprise pack of figurines and Cindy found an imitation polly pocket of Princess Leia. As Eeoyre doesn't like star wars he was immune to this gift shop.

After our purchases I noticed it was getting close to an Indiana Jones show time. So I made us all lineup. We were all hungry and I thought we would have time to pop out of the line for a snack run but as soon as we got into the line it started to move. I made us stay in it. Everyone was hungry and cranky. I should have gotten them snacks. We had plenty of time sitting around waiting for the show. They only did a modified show as the weather wasn't great.

We all enjoyed it. It brought back memories of my grandparents for me. The first time I saw it was with them. Until I was 12 my parents took us to Disney each March Break. Then they stopped because my grandparents took that time for vacation and they all worked in the family flower shop together. So I used to come down by myself at March break or Reading week at university and stay with them. They often took me to Disney. At least until I brought Dh with me that last year and then just Dh and I went just ourselves. Anyhow, although and old show, I hadn't seen it in over a decade and I enjoyed it.

We tried to do Lights, camera, motorcars but due to the weather it wasn't running.

But now, we were really hungry. So hungry that we all needed to eat immediately. There were meltdowns. You've heard me describe them all before. So I won't go into it. Let's just say that we split up. Eeoyre and I were happy with pretzels for lunch but everyone else went to Toy story Pizza.

While waiting Eeoyre and I went to the Muppets. He liked it but since he's not really familiar with the Muppets it didn't mean much to him. It was getting crowded in the waiting area. I know they like you to push forward but I had my eye on another spot so I had to deal with Eeoyre getting mad at me for not following the rules.

We met up with everyone at the next Jedi Training. Dh and Poppa stayed with Jedi and Nanny and I took Eeoyre and Cindy to the animation exhibit. If you remember from many chapters ago our to-do list today included this.

We missed the character greeting. They were switching them over but we were just in time for the drawing class. Cindy and I had to sit in the front while Eeoyre and Nanny found seats in the back.

We drew a classic Pooh head. Cindy broke down when her drawing wasn't perfect. She went into her classic pose with her head down and her arms crossed. I never heard the "hummpft". Could be she was modifying it since we were in the front row. The animator saw her do this and try as he did he just couldn't get her back. He was very sweet and obviously upset about upsetting her. She only lasted about two strokes on the page. I made her sit there with me while I finished.

Here is my drawing.

According to Nanny Eeoyre didn't last much longer. He just gave up too but it didn't send him into a tailspin like Cindy.

We missed the HSM parade while we were drawing. We caught the last few minutes of it. Jedi, Dh, and Poppa saw most of it-much to Poppa's dismay. He was looking very bored. He took these cute pictures of Jedi. However he neglected to take any during the Jedi Training.:confused3

I haven't mentioned that during the parade the SUN yes folks that is right the sun was out. It was fabulous to feel the sun on our faces. All the kids wanted to do one thing.

"Mom, Can we go back to the hotel and go swimming?"

"Soon" I told them. We still had a few more things to tick off our list here. We had an ADR elsewhere tonight so today would be it for the studios.

Dh said that Jedi was "this close" to being picked as a volunteer for Jedi training. There was another starting and he wanted to take Jedi to try to be a volunteer again. I wasn't quick enough to point out that a photopass photographer was just a few feet away and it was sunny so off they went. My time to "Hummmpft".

The rest of us went to the little mermaid. The clouds rolled in front of the sun again but at least it wasn't raining.

We had 15 minutes to wait for the next showing at 1:40. While we were in line the sun came out again. The whole crowd cheered. I looked around to see what was causing the commotion but it was just the sun. That's how excited everyone was to see it again. The last 5 day of rain was really wearing on everyone.

However, once again the clouds reigned supreme and a light spitting of rain started. Apparently enough to cancel the next Jedi training. I would find that out after watching the little mermaid show.

Last year I remember being rained on from the ceiling. This year there was just bubbles-no rain. Probably just as well as I had had enough rain. It also seemed shorter. But maybe that was just me. Still enjoyable but shorter and less wet. Poppa was happier about it.

Before we left I wanted to try Toy story mania once more. Eeoyre didn't want to. So Nanny and Poppa took him to go get an ice cream while the rest of us decided that an 80-minute wait was just too long.

We left. We did most of the things on my list-the TSM, Indy, Jedi training and animation. We missed the motorcars show and getting a group photopass picture in the matching yellow t-shirts I so lovingly made.

Here are some shots I took on the bus. Sometimes the only way I get a picture of myself is to take it myself. Don't our shirts look lovely covered in plastic?

We got back to our hotel room by 2:50 pm. We made them rest until 3:15 on their beds. Then we went swimming.

The clouds and the sun played hide and seek the rest of the afternoon. Usually the sun was hiding but it came out enough that we got excited. We took our first swimming shots.

After too short a time we had to leave the pool to get ready for dinner. I made everyone wear their yellow shirts again. The good thing about the weather was that you didn't need a complete change of clothes for dinner due to sweating all day. The bad thing was that I didn't get to escape and do laundry.

To find out where we went you'll have to stay tuned. I'll give you hint though. It felt like we were coming home. Click here to find out where Home was http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=29932632&postcount=556

Another great installment. Great Pooh drawing, sorry to hear 'bout the meltdown. Great T-shirts. You said you made these by yourself? What a talent you are.

Could you be going to Le Cellier? One of our favorites.

Beautiful drawing! And I love the yellow shirts!

I'm so glad you got some sun, even if for a short time.

Wow, the sun did come out for you!!! YAY! It cracks me up that you take kids to Disney and all they can think about is swimming. I've read this on so many TRs. :rotfl2:

Love this picture :)

Thanks. Notice how huge the head hole in the poncho is. They start to stretch on you after a while. Dh has duct tape on his poncho.

Also notice the camera. I hate that camera. I've got my new one but I haven't used it much.

Great T-shirts. You said you made these by yourself? What a talent you are.

Could you be going to Le Cellier? One of our favorites.

I added our names to the design from the disign board and ironed them on. Can't take credit for the design. However it take me hours to put our names on because that disigner wasn't doing them anymore so I had to painstakingly erase the other's names, match up the background and then add ours.

Le cellier is a good guess but we don't have park hoppers. Try again.

I love the yellow shirts!

It took some shopping around to find pale yellow in all our sizes. Especially for Eeoyre in a size 10-12. His is a darker colour and was a size 14. I had to shrink it.

It cracks me up that you take kids to Disney and all they can think about is swimming. I've read this on so many TRs. :rotfl2:

The kids have their eye on the Nick Hotel now. They saw some pictures from the smurf's trip report when I was reading it and fell in love.

I think I have some pictures from today's pool time. I have to search for them.

great updates.
loved the stormtrooper pic. I love Star Wars

Loved the self pic. :thumbsup2
:cheer2: the sun came out, somewhat

Fantastic that you got all your ADR's for your next trip :thumbsup2

I can remember hearing a cheer when the sun came out too, so funny :rotfl:

Friday August 22, 2008

I have in my journal that I tried the slide at the old man pool (the big pool) at POR. Jedi and Cindy tried it too but we couldn't get Eeoyre to go down it.

"There's no way I'm going down that thing!" He said. It became my mission to get him down that slide. It was like he had dared me to get him to do it. It's not a very big slide. He has gone down water slides at Great Wolf lodge I Niagara Falls and Wonderland ( a Theme park just north of Toronto) that are bigger. So I knew I could get him to do it. The trick was just to wait it out.

Nanny and Poppa stayed and rested at the hotel rooms. We all returned to join them to get ready for dinner at the wilderness lodge. I had an ADR for 5:10 at the Whispering Pines.

We hopped on the first bus which happened to be an Epcot. It must have been our lucky night because there was a Wilderness Lodge bus waiting for us. We were the only family on it.

Here is Cindy and Poppa on the bus to Epcot. You can see Cindy's hair is still wet from the pool.

I had always figured that if I was going to go the deluxe route that the wilderness lodge would be the one I would pick. I was so looking forward to finally setting eyes on the place. I had heard such great things from other trip reports and since it is the closest deluxe to Fort Wilderness (which holds a special place in my heart from my childhood memories) I really thought that Nanny, Poppa and I would fall in love with the place. Secretly I think I hoped that it would make Nanny and Poppa want to buy into DVC but I was disappointed.

We arrived with plenty of time to look around. Here is the bridge shot.

I have to say that although the place is lovely that it just didn't do it for me. It reminded me too much of Great Wolf Lodge or other Resorts we have here in Ontario. In fact they had lots of Canadian items in the gift store that I have seen here in Ontario. If I am going to spend all that money to leave Canada, I want to stay someplace that I can't get in Canada. Remember this is just my opinion. The resort was lovely-it just didn't touch my heart the way I thought it would.

We had one of the first seatings of the night. The restaurant was pretty empty when we first arrived. I hadn't really prepped my family on all the antics that can happen here. Which turned out to be just as well because it was one of the quickest table services we had all trip and therefore there really wasn't any time for anything. We took our desert in doggie bags to eat in our room later.

We did ask for ketchup but it was too late by the time they brought it.:sad2: We had all finished eating. In fact the only antic we saw was when the server dumped a box of straws on our table. The look on Nanny's face when he did that was priceless. She was totally taken aback and offended. It caused me to spray my milkshake on Cindy and Eeoyre sitting beside me. Then they were offended.

We did find that there was so much food on the platters that we just felt bad. We all ordered milkshakes and in our excitement over them (they were good and we were thirsty as we had seen some sun) we filled up on them. The food was good and they were wonderful about keeping all Eeoyre's food separate. They bought all his food out on separate plates to make sure nothing touched.

After dinner we walked around the outside of the resort and took the boat back to the MK. It was one of the older little boats. The captain was very talkative. He told us it was one of six original boats from 1971. Poppa and him talked about the "old days" when the beach at Fort wilderness was open.

Cindy was asked to steer the boat but declined.:drive: She did blow the horn three times to signal we were leaving. She went shy after that.

The weather was clear on the boat ride. We grabbed a bus from the MK back to POR but as we were leaving the park we noticed a band of rain nearby. We headed right into it. The rain and the wind pounded the bus and we rocked back and forth. We were all glad we weren't on the boat anymore. Luck was on our side again as we drove out of the band of rain when we got to our resort.

It was the premiere of the Disney movie "Cheetah Girls One World" tonight at 8pm. We all settled into our jammies and cuddled up to watch it and eat our desserts. Even Nanny and Poppa were forced by their grandchildren to watch it as we had to eventually separate the kids so Eeoyre had to go into their room to watch it.

I had scheduled tomorrow to be a sleep-in day. It was also Nanny's last day with us. We had a late breakfast ADR.

I had the most amazing melt-in-your mouth breakfast creation while looking out at the water. Where did we go?

With such a great breakfast and a relaxing day planned who would think I would have Mega Mommy Meltdown #1. Someone took the brunt of my anger. Who was it and what caused it? Click here to find out.

great updates.

Thought I lost you both. I know you both are busy with the enchanted site (check it out everyone if you haven't yet) and being a DisneyMom. Glad to see you back.

Yes, very excited about doing deluxe dinning on my next trip. 86 days to go! Of course I am dieting now so I can afford the deluxe meals. Down 4 pounds!

Off now to oversee piano practice and hit the treadmill.

Ohhhhh! Please post another update soon!

For now, I will throw my guesses out there!!

Breakfast, could it be Cape May? (I love Cape May!)
Brunt bearer, could it be DH? (that's who gets my brunt sad to say)

I took what you said to heart and we changed from WL to the Poly and we are mega happy that we'll be "in the tropics". The main complaint (comment? feeling?) I had when we were there for dinner at Artist Point, was that it was SO loud and chaotic in the lobby (at least when we were there). Just jarringly loud, as opposed to, for example, AKL, which when we were there for dinner, was so serene.

The Poly is a choice we're both happy w/ - my sweetie gets the tropics and I get mega transportation choices!

great update

funny about the straws being thrown down and she looked offended. even funnier you spit your shake on the,

I have no clue where you go.
