A few questions about TRON from someone who hasn’t ridden it yet

Hi everyone. Hopefully we’ll be riding Tron for the first time in a few weeks. Based on my research, I think I will need to ride in one of the seats vs a lightcycle due to motion sickness issues. We are a party of 3 and my husband and son are good with the cycles.

This being said, I adore FOP, but have to wear my seabands to ride. The cycle is not the issue, it’s more the rollercoaster aspect of Tron and the exposure, for lack of a better word, on the cycle. If I feel any issues with FOP, I just close my eyes or turn my head. That won’t work on Tron. If anyone with motion sickness issues like mine has been ok on the Tron cycle, please let me know.

Anyway, I just wanted to confirm that I’ll be able to ride in one of the Tron seats or are they reserved for guests with disabilities or size concerns? I haven’t been able to find a definitive answer.

Also, any idea if this will result in our group being split up and/or increase wait time to ride? I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,
I have motion sickness from fast or rough movement and not screens and I did ok on Tron. If it was any longer I might not have been ok but for me the shorter ride time helped. I did ask for an accessible seat too. You don't have to give a reason and they won't ask. Just let the CM know when you get to loading that you need the accessible seat and rest of your party will ride in regular seats. We rode twice last trip and my adult son rode in the cycle right in front of me.

Tron and FoP are completely different rides. FoP has more time built in to the rise and fall of the ride. TRON is very smooth and very fast. One loop and it's done. Personally, I think I'd be more prone to motion sickness not riding the cycle, but I will say that riding the cycle is difficult for me to get on, off and leaning forward.

Thank you! I know they are different. I was just trying to make a cycle comparison, if that makes sense. Could you maybe explain why you think the seat would cause more motion sickness? Is it more exposed than the cycle?

I'm presuming you've tried other things to try and tackle your motion sickness? Just wondering as I'm a lifelong sufferer of motion sickness and seabands etc never really worked for me. But on my trip to WDW last year, I tried a new combination of motion sickness patches (1 behind the ear & 1 below belly button) and motion sickness tablets (Hyoscine Hydrobromide based) before every triggering ride and these worked like a dream. I could ride Tron, Guardians etc without feeling ill at all which in the past wouldn't have been possible.

You will sit erect so your body won't be able to 'move' with the ride. It will be more like Thunder Mountain (although much shorter).

I mostly ride the seat because my DS is disabled and I'm afraid to put him on the cycle. He does ride the cycle on FoP. I have ridden the motorcycle when with my other DS (front row) and it's fun. I have vertigo and avoid some rides.

The ride is extremely short so I don't even know if there is time to get nauseous. I felt like on cycle I was focused on leaning forward and enjoying the ride. In the seat you are sitting up and taking everything else in and for me the scenery is more likely to get to me.

When you get to bottom of ramp you tell them you want the seat and the rest of your group wants the cycles. They usually ask if you want to stay together, it is no problem at all. They will sit on the cycles in front of you.

I have used Bonine but I begin taking it the day before to make sure I have enough built up to handle it. I used it because of Guardians. I did not feel like it was needed on TRON.

I get prone to motion sickness and I felt fine after Tron and even Guardians. I'd recommend you go in the lightcycle, it's a better experience all the way around.

FOP I was a little wobbly at the end but settled down for lunch and felt fine afterwards.

My daughter gets motion sickness with most rides with screens, but she is fine on Guardians and Tron. I do not get generally have motion sickness, but Mission Space and Star Tours even make me queasy. I think you will be ok on Tron.

While I don’t get any type of motion my brother who will ride any coaster and things that spin upside down as will I at many other with real coasters - He gets motion sickness on FOP other VR rides including universal ones he is fine. Is it a screen or coaster or both? The seats are at the back which is the best seat if one likes to get tossed around, however Tron is just not a coaster that does this much if at all… I would think slight motion sickness one would do better in the middle cars on a cycle. As others have said Tron is over fast other then when it first comes out it is rather uneventful if you are ok with BTM or even SDMT I highly doubt there would be any issue and go as far to say BTM is far more of coaster and more fun than Tron.

Thank you! Yes, I do supplement the bands with Bonine if I feel like I’ll need it. It’s meclazine based, which helps with dizziness for me, too. I try not to take it because it does make me a bit drowsy. I will definitely look into your suggestions. Do you have any issues with drowsiness? Thanks again!

Thank you for this perspective. My biggest triggers are spinning and backward motion. Sometimes side to side motion. For Tron, I was thinking that being exposed on a cycle that may feel like it’s going sideways into turns would trigger me.

I don’t have issues with any of the coasters, except for EE and strangely Space Mountain. I avoid these. I’m also going to pass on GoG because of the backwards launch. The motion simulators are hard to predict. No issues with Star Tours, but sometimes with FOP. Maybe I’m overthinking this. lol. Too much planning.

Thank you for this explanation! Scenery is more likely to bother me, as well.

I also take Bonine if I feel like I need it. It’s good to hear it helps. Sounds like I should ride the cycle. Thanks again!

No problem. And no I can't say I had any issues at all with drowsiness using those tablets and patches. As like most similar medications, the warnings states that they may cause drowsiness but they didn't with me. I might have slightly different triggers to you though, spinning is a major one but otherwise just general movement (especially bumpy) fast moving scenery, screens etc seems to hit me the most. Simulator type rides are a nightmare!

I'm based in the UK but these are the patches I have: https://amzn.eu/d/eWr9tfc - you may be able to get something similar in the States. Didn't ever imagine a patch off Amazon would actually work!

But defo ride it if you can, such a good ride :-)
