A fearless trip report- May 12-18th 2011

Yay for Everett getting on to his 1st height restricted ride! I'm sure he loved "driving" the car. If only our boys would have to drive cars like this on a track once they turn 16! :lmao:

It was wonderful being able to read an update to your TR again. And getting to see Everett's precious smiling face!

I kind of wish we had that toddler-ese translator you speak of... I'd like to know what DS is saying when he has a serious look on his face while he jabbers on and then starts laughing like he just told the best joke ever. :confused3 :rotfl2:

Congratulations to Everett for his accomplishment. He seems very studious of the measurement post.

I just stumbled across your trip report and I am so glad I'm here!!! I've seen your signature in other posts....with your precious little guy in his ears. I'm loving your trip so far! Looking forward to reading more! :surfweb:

Hi Everyone, I'll be back to do individual responses at nap time, but I thought that I could share some pictures with you of Karolina from our last Disney trip in June 2010. I referenced that trip in this TR, it was the one I took exactly two photos, neither of which with Karolina, but we did do a Disney photopass shoot, and got some amazing pictures of the whole family.

We did the photopass shoot as a mother's day present for my mom, but I don't think we realized how precious these photos would be. Here is a link to the photos in in my facebook album, Karolina is the pretty blonde with glasses.

Disney photopass shoot

Yay for Everett's ride!!! I have never in all my trips ridden motor speedway. It is on my Disney bucket list! The pictures are beautiful! We have been thinking about doing a photopass shoot this year.

Awww...Everett got to ride in his car. I love the expressions on his cute little face in the photos. Too cute!:goodvibes

I also have can’t-figure-out-which-dot-is-mine-itis on Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. My brother maxes his score every time, leaving no hope for me to beat him. Huzzah for Everett! I bet he loved driving that car!

Thanks for sharing those pictures of Karolina. Those are great pictures of the whole family.

Yeah for Everett driving !:cool1: and yeah for now knowing that Meadow can drive in Sept.:thumbsup2

I too used to suffer from the same problem on Buzz as you...but my last ride I scored over 350,000. There is hope for you. Keep trying. The desire to win will over come!:rotfl: And I will beat DH this next trip. I really will. :lmao:

Wow, 350,000 what is your secret! I know there are some high value targets, and I keep meaning to look them up, but I sorta feel like that is cheating. I need to beat DH with my own skills (like that is ever going to happen!)

Yeah for Everett being tall enough to go on the ride!!! :car:

Everett was pretty excited about the car- cars are a big thing right now in our house!

Glad that you are back. Sorry to hear about all the legal things going on.
Hope it will turn out ok.
It's indeed very important to make sure you have everything organized, may something happens to you.

Great milestone for Everret, he drove his first convertible ;)
I hate that ride cause it's so bumpy, but I have been on it too many times to count because both my sons loved it!!

I have a feeling this will not be our last trip on the speedway! Yes, Everett is becoming a pro, I told my Dad that it won't be too long until Everett is asking to drive his Corvette!

Sometimes I think that I should still be driving on a track! :rotfl:

Thank you, its nice to concentrate on happy memories right now! :thumbsup2

I've got to get working on that toddler-ese translator. Maybe I can make enough money off of it to buy one of those houses at Golden Oaks. If it works out, all my faithful TR readers will be welcome to come down anytime! :yay:

I have the same problem when riding Buzz, can never figure out which dot is mine!

Yes, I am WAY, WAY better at TSM (but DH still always wins!)

Thank you for joining in, I hope to have another update soon!

Well, I wouldn't say the Speedway is worth going out of your way to ride, but if you have never done it, its not a bad experience.

We really loved our Photopass experience. The only complaint was that it was SO HOT when we were taking photos. We booked the earliest package they had available and it was at 10 am, which is baking in June. I maybe should have tried for more of an evening time frame. Maybe next time.

Thanks, he had a blast on both the "CARS" in the sky (TTA) and the Speedway.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who suffers from that debilitating ailment! ;)

Thank you for your kind words about the pictures, Karolina was very special to us!

My secret was dumb luck :rotfl2: I've never scored even close to that before. :lmao:

Thank you for sharing the pictures of Karolina. I know her death has been hard on your family. I'm glad you have those special memories to look back on.

Thank you for sharing those beautiful pictures of Karolina with all of us here. It's nice that your family will have those to look back on & remember all of y'alls fond memories of her.

Your son is so adorable!! I'm glad he got the chance to take a spin on the speedway!:goodvibes

I'm glad you and your family are on the road to healing. I know it's so hard, but remembering the smiles and good memories will get you through. Those were lovely family photos you shared!

Episode 25- the update in which Everett ruins a magical moment

After we left the speedway I figured it was time to make good on those Jungle Cruise fastpasses. It wasn’t dark yet, but it was getting on towards dusk and I figured it was now or never.

On the way over to Adventureland, I spied a Photopass photographer near the bridge to Tomorrowland and just had to stop. I wanted to make sure I made the most of our photopass share, so I kept a look out for any and all photographers. They got some pretty cute shots of all of us near the Castle, and even a magic shot that DS was totally unimpressed with!

Everett's caption: "Whatever, Tinkerbell isn't all that impressive"

Once we left that Photopass guy, I saw another, right inside the entrance to the rose garden. Not wanting to neglect even one single photopass opportunity, we headed over in that direction. Unfortunately a group of teenagers beat us to the punch. They looked like they were going to be a while, wanting to take all sorts of photos, alone, in groups, with just one or two of them, basically in unending combinations.

Instead of getting antsy (like typical commando Marissa) I decided to embrace the serendipity of the moment, and let DS blow off some steam running around the rose garden. We were pretty much the only people down there, and I knew that he would appreciate some “free range” time, so I just let him go. He was having a wonderful time, stretching his legs, and looking at the “flaw-wos”.

At some point during this time a couple entered the rose garden, and was standing against the railing looking out toward Tomorrowland. They weren’t really on my radar, because Everett wasn’t getting too close or bothering them, and I figured as long as he kept a decent distance, he wouldn’t disrupt them.

I should have put the camera on sports setting, he is one fast little dude!

At that point I noticed Everett beginning to exhibit some strange behavior, or what we affectionately call in our house- “the poop dance”. The choreography of the “poop dance” goes something like this: Everett begins running around (even more crazily than normal), and then spends some time stamping his feet, and then he squats down, gets all red in the face and has an intense look of concentration, and then you move on to the next act- the diaper change tango.

Well, DH and I were watching and laughing, because the “poop dance” is actually pretty funny in person, and I wasn’t paying any attention to the couple. Well, Everett reached the cumulation of the “poop dance” (the whole squatting and concentrating part), and I happened to glace over at the couple, and low and behold the guy was standing there holding an engagement ring and my son was POOPING NOT TEN FEET FROM HIS PROPOSAL!

When I realized what was going on I was mortified. I grabbed DS and hightailed it out of there, followed by DH (who was laughing even harder). I felt really bad, but DH said it was OK, and just gave them a glimpse into their lives will look like in a few years. If nothing else it will make for a good story- right! :rotfl2:

Well, after getting Everett all cleaned up, we never made it back to the photopass photographer, and I had an important decision to make. By this point it was getting later, and the crowds were starting to build on Main Street. I had to decide whether I wanted to ride Jungle Cruise and risk not getting a good spot for Wishes, or skip the Jungle Cruise this trip and stake out my favorite spot in front of Casey’s.

Well I decided to postpone my trip down the rivers of the world, and hold my favorite firework spot. I was a little disappointed, Jungle Cruise is a favorite of mine, after all, but I knew there would be more trips, and I just make sure to ride it first next time.

I initially wasn’t sure if Everett was going to make it to Wishes, but being the anti-cupid must have given him a second wind, because he was all smiles and laughter while we waited for the show to start. We broke out his spinny glow toy (courtesy of Grammy) and some glow sticks brought from home and he was in heaven. He happily waited in his stroller until it began to get dark.

It began to get more and more crowded and the CM began to appear to direct traffic with their glow wands. At this point another family decided to mush their way into our space and practically stood on top of DH and I, which I was not thrilled with. I had carefully chosen and waited in this spot, skipping one of my favorite rides, I did not appreciate having my personal space violated by latecomers. :headache:

Happily, they moved up a little, (crowding someone else that had been waiting) but at least they were out of my hair!

Right before the new castle show was supposed to start, I got DS out of the stroller and held him so he would have a better view.

I didn’t know what he’d think of the show, but to my amazement, he was entranced. He was utterly spellbound, and I have to say that I was really impressed too! I saw the show on youtube, but it is much, much more impressive in person. The effects were really cool, and it was so sweet seeing all those happy families up on the castle. I thought it would feature more photopass photos from that actual day, so that was a little bit of a disappointment, but it was very good overall.

When the show was over, people were clapping, and after it had gotten (relatively) quiet, DS let out a big “YAY” at the top of his lungs. It was enough of a delay to be really funny, and the people around us got a good chuckle out of it. I guess he knows what he likes! :lovestruc

Next up were the fireworks, and truthfully I was a little afraid of what his reaction would be. He hadn’t seen fireworks since the previous June, when he was 6 months old, and even though he liked them then, there was no telling what he would think this time around.

Well, the show started and I was holding my breath, but soon enough, as the first firework went off, Everett burst into a huge smile, held his hands up in the air and yelled “BOOM”. Knowing Everett, I should have known that loud noises would be right up his alley! We watched the show together, with him “BOOM”ing the whole time. It was one of those precious Disney moments, and the reason we all return again and again. Just thinking about it brings a big smile to my face. :cloud9:

Once the fireworks were over, I decided not to push my luck with the Main Street Electrical Parade, and we joined the throngs of people leaving the MK. The lights, the sounds, everything was working together to make it one enchanted evening. I wish I could be there right now!

Once out of the park, we had one decidedly unmagical hurdle to conquer, our first Disney bus ride with a stroller. On all of our previous trips we had rented cars, but this time around DH wanted to save some money, and our rental car went back to the airport with my mom.

I was truthfully a little daunted by this task (and secretly hoped it would be a disaster, ensuring us car rentals for the remainder of our stroller days). We headed over to our POR bus stop, and got in a relatively short line. We got DS out of the stroller (who was still awake by some miracle of God!) and DH folded up the stroller. I took DS and the diaper bag, DH took the stroller and the extra bag, and before long a bus pulled right up to our stop.

Embarking was pretty painless, as was debarking, so I have to say that our first bus stroller experience was a success. The bus was pretty crowded, but DH managed to stand near the second door, so he could hold the stroller out of the way. DS and I got a seat, and it was very nice. I think it helps that our stroller folds easily and fairly compactly (for a full size) and is relatively lightweight. I think once we hit a double stroller, DH might change his mind, but he says that it is totally doable for the future with our single.

Disembarking was equally easy and our walk back was nice, except for the family in front of us who were smoking. Smoking outside of designated smoking areas is one of my Disney pet peeves, and so I very politely said “Excuse me, smoking is prohibited in this resort outside of the designated areas. You can consult your resort map for the smoking areas”. The parents looked a little surprised, but they did put out their cigarettes.

DH was cringing, he is sure that one of these days I’m going to get punched for getting involved in other people’s business, and then he’ll have to get involved. I tell him that I grew up with two brothers (a wrestler and football player) and I can hold my own, thank you very much. :snooty: I’m a real stickler for the rules, especially at Disney, and I don’t shy away from letting people know (in a polite way) when they are doing something they shouldn’t. Maybe they didn’t know that they shouldn’t be smoking outside of the designated areas, and I helpfully clued them in on the rules!

After all that we headed off to bed. I was hoping we could sleep in a little, since the next day was our off day- would I get that chance?

Your photos are all so cute!!! I had to crack up about Everett's "dance" during someone's proposal!!! Hahahaha! :rotfl: Now THERE is a memory! :lmao:

I am glad your first Disney bus ride was a success! :thumbsup2

Oh I am SO glad you reminded those people of the rules! I had a similar scenario last fall at AK.... This large group of people were walking around the Kali area and we were behind them. It wasn't a super crowded day, but the walk way is a bit narrow, so I couldn't go around them. A few of them were smoking as they walked! :headache: My major issue was that they were holding their cigarettes down by their waists as they walked...so the smoke was trailing them directly into my children's faces in their stroller! :scared1: I nicely said basically the same thing you did, and they started yelling at me!!!! "Who died and made you the queen of Disney?!?" :scared1: Ugh...thankfully a CM stepped in and whisked them away letting them know where they could finish their cigarettes. ;)

OMG! The story about Everett & his "poop dance" near the couple getting engaged was hilarious! I literally LOL'd! In fact, I was laughing so hard, that I had to stop & tell Ed what was making me laugh so hard. I'm so glad Everett was able to stay up for Wishes. I'm hoping on our next trip, Reid will be better about watching fireworks & we'll be able to stick around for it. And it sounds like y'all were very successful on your first bus trip with a stroller. It can be quite a balancing act handling everything. Can't wait to hear what y'all did on the off day!

:rotfl: Love the poop dance story. You hear about people proposing during firework shows, not so much during a toddler poop dance. :rotfl:

Love the family pictures, the turned out awesome!! What a great memory to have!!

Love it that Everett has reached his first milestone. Once my DS started reaching those milestones we can't keep him off of them now!! He's now 4 and his favorite ride is Big Thunder Mountain. I swear we rode it like 7 times in a row one night. We'd get off and go straight back through the line. Fastpass and baby swap passes are our friend!! Plus it helped that we had a really great CM who was supposed to collect the FP loved our son cuz he kept telling her "it's the Wildest Wide in the Rilderness" and that this was his favorite ride so she kept giving him back his FP's!!! She was awesome!!!!

Can't wait to hear more!! I also can't wait to get our kids back to WDW. We're a Disneyland family since we're in California.

:rotfl2::lmao: to the poop dance story!! Too funny. So glad Everett liked Wishes! Space stealing latecomers get on my nerves too.:sad2: sorry you had to skip your jungle cruise.

I love the convenience of the bus system, but I am not lugging a stroller. Glad it wasn't too painful. I have seen some folks juggling kids, strollers, balloons, packages etc and not envied them!
