We woke up pretty early this morning-we had to get to EPCOT early for our Segway Tour!!! This was basically a present to ourselves for the wedding. Our tour was scheduled at 8:30AM, and we were told to be at Guest Relations by 8:15. I, of course, didnt't want to be late. We had decided the best way to get there was to take a cab, since the transporation didn't start to Epcot until about 8, and I was paranoid that wouldn't get us there in time. I'm sure it would have been fine, but I wasn't missing this! :)

The nice guys at the Poly got us a cab(they have them lined up out front everyday) and we headed over to Epcot. It wasn't too far, but we had no idea how much it was going to cost. Didn't really matter, we didn't have too much of a choice. Besides, it's our honeymoon....who's keeping track of money? Well, I was supposed to be, and that lasted for about a day or so! :)

We get to the Epcot car entrance, and they are not open yet, obviously. There are about 10 lanes for cars to go through...no gates..and 1 lady out in the middle trying to make everyone stop or turn around. What in the world?!?!? It was a sight to see...she was litererally running cars down (without much success, I should add!). Our driver, who was very nice, (didn't really talk much, but that's okay, I was too nervous about falling off a Segway and having to pay Disney for a new one...) stopped and we told the lady why we were there early. She pulled out a list. Ok, no Becky and Joe. Well, that's not gonna work with me-I had more paperwork on this trip than I have ever carried around before! I pulled out our confirmation, and we were signaled through. Once we got to the drop off point, our total came to about $13. All we had were 20 dollar bills, so he got a good tip, and we told him to have a good day. We used our tickets to go through the turnstiles after being checked off of another list, and headed to Guest Relations. There wasn't a lot going on at the front of Epcot this early. Employees going to work, but nothing to spectacular to look at. Not sure what I was expecting...maybe a painting crew or something making everything sparkle? Hmmm maybe not. :rotfl:

We sign in at Guest Relations, and sign a paper confirming my worst fear. If you break a Segway, you buy a Segway. But you don't get to take it home. Mental note-don't break it! We got name tags, and we waited to be called. Our group was about 10 people, and we started off in a classroom in Innoventions. We were with Lamont and another girl(didn't write down her name) who would be our teachers/guides. We watched a quick video and then Lamont glided around the front of the room on his Segway, telling us basics. How to get on. "Step up, but don't turn the handlebars." (To turn the machine, you just push the handlbars left or right.) How to get off. "Just step off, one foot at a time." What to do if the Segway makes an awful beeping noise. "Get off the Segway IMMEDIATELY...there has been a malfunction...I repeat, DO NOT stay on if you hear this sound." Great, now I'm almost as nervous as I was before the wedding!! He shows us some basic manuevers, and we are given helmets. They're not optional, nor flattering, but they are part of the experience. :)

We got into the next room, and each pull a Segway into our spots...bascially just cones on the floor. The 2 instructors came around and stood in front of us as we got on, one by one. I was one of the 1st to have to get on mine, and I was extremely shaky. I got up, and it would wobble(of course, that's how they balance!), and I would jump off. Hmmm probably not good, based on the look I was getting. The girl instructor called me her "jumper" for the day, and told me I really needed to stay on it. Yeah, ok, right...it's wobbeling and you want me to stand still! It was very un-nerving, mostly because it is a very unnatural feeling. Once everybody was on their Segway standing in one spot, we went back and forth, back and forth, turn around, back and forth. Finally by this point I was done jumping. It was starting to feel much better, enough that I wasn't terrified for my life anymore. (Keep in mind, I've jumped out of a plane-this was right up there on the fear factor at first!). I must have figured out that the Segway would never be completely still-the constant movement is what keeps it upright. We went around some cones, zig-zag style, and then up and down some ramps, under a limbo stick(meant to represent a tree in the World Showcase (took me back to Ohanas!) and I got a much better feel for the thing. Now, it's time to leave Innoventions, after we get the "you're on stage because there are guests in the park" speech. We head over to Imagination for a rest room break and to get off the Segways for the first time in about 40 minutes. Once we headed towards the World Showcase after that, I was actually having fun! Lots of fun!! It really was easy, once I got my confidence together.

We went through the World Showcase with our guides, and stopped in most of the countries for some tidbits about the country or the park. The WS didn't open until 11, so there was nobody else around! We got to ride through the columns in Italy, and ride through the little town in Morocco. We learned in Morocco that the day before, one of the Segway's had malfunctioned in that very same spot, (not the users fault, just a mechanism prob) which set off the awful alarm we heard about in the first training room. However, the girl didn't get off. Her Segway went straight forward, towards the ground...and she went with it. Our instructor was horrified, and told us she was happy we got through Morocco without incident. Scary-now I know why we got the warning that we did.

Halfway through, we got "free time", where we could get off the Segway, or just ride around in a small area and have pictures taken.

wedding326-1.jpg

After all the countries, it was time to head back to Innoventions. Future World was getting pretty crowded, and we had a huge audience the whole way back. (I figured they were admiring our cool helmets, but I could be wrong.) :) Back at Innoventions, we had to hop off our Segways :( We were given special trading pins that had a moving Segway on them, and we were done. Once I got comfortable, I really had the best time. It was a great choice for our honeymoon! I highly recommend it for anyone-it doesn't take any coordination, just don't jump off! :)

We knew Daddy and Gina were in the park, and we planned to spend some time with them, so we gave them a call. I called and Daddy answered..."where are you?" him: "the boat ride" Me: "huh??" Him: some strange music and noise in the background...."the boat ride in WS". Me: "oh, duh! ok!, we'll head that way!" Off we go towards Mexico....

YAY for riding segways. They are very weird to maneuver. We tried them out in innovations or whatever its called. We really liked them but they were different. Defiantely an experience. Im really glad you liked them!! I missed you updating-- im glad your back!! Cant wait for more:hug:

We met up with Daddy and Gina, and walked around the WS together for awhile until lunch time. They had pretty much bypassed Future World when they came in because of the crowds, and I completely understood that. They had gone through a long week at this point also. Not only the wedding hype, but the excitement of being with Gina's kids and grandkids almost every day and every night. Tomorrow they would be heading back to North Carolina, and today was just a take-it-easy day for them. For lunch, Dad and Joe both agreed-they wanted Brats from Germany. Gina and I both agreed that we didn't want Brats from Germany. We comprimised, and they got their brats, and we went to America and had some food there. :) Everybody was happy. The crowds in WS at this point were getting really bad...where were all of these people coming from? We waited in line in America (a counter service place) for 30 minutes. Joe and Daddy were done eating before we ever ordered. Oh well. We were still on vacation! :)

After lunch, Daddy and I agreed we wanted to see the American Adventure. Neither Joe nor Gina had seen it, and it's one of my Dad's favorites. I'd say it was one of mine, but you know, the more I think about it, everything is my favorite at Epcot! Before the show, the Voices of Liberty came out into the Rotunda and did a really nice show. It was all Christmas music, and they were awesome. As we stood there watching them, I thought about the Dis Brides who have had their receptions in that very place-and I could see the pictures so clearly! After they performed, we watched the American Adventure. What an awesome show. I don't know what it is, but something about the song at the end, "Golden Dream", always brings tears to my eyes. I'm not overly patriotic, but that show really does make you proud to be an America. Corny, yep, but it's true. Disney did a great job with it.

Back into the daylight after the show, which always blinds me when we walk outside in Florida after an indoor performance! I don't remember a lot of the details about the afternoon, we mainly just strolled around. We made our way back into Future World, and I insisted that Gina had to visit the world of my beloved Figment, so we rode Imagination. Next, Gina and Dad headed into Honey I shrunk the Audience while we went to Test Track to get fast passes. They turned out to be for pretty late that night, after 6 or so, but we held onto them anyways. We went down to the Seas, and rode Nemo for the first time. I'm torn on the whole Nemo ride. It was cute, and the clammobiles were cute. However, it was pretty short and didn't showcase a whole lot. Maybe I was just tired, but I wasn't jumping for joy over this one. Or maybe I'm still not happy that they remamed the Living Seas. Who knows :) I need to get over my old school ways, I suppose. Don't get me wrong-I love Finding Nemo, it's a great movie. And the new attraction is cute. Just nothing that brought a tear to my eye this time. LOL anyways..!
We walked around the Seas, and saw that Turtle Talk with Crush was lining up. None of us had ever seen it, but I had read about it. We waited in line for a while, but, Dude! as Crush would say, what a show!!! It was amazing, and I'm still not sure "how'd they do that!?!?" We sat there the entire time laughing and trying to figure out how in the world....It was great!

My dad and stepmom:
wedding335.jpg

Somehow it became time for dinner, and we ended up in the Land. Soarin was probably the reason for visiting, but with a 100 min standby time and no fastpasses available, it wasn't going to happen. Dinner got mixed reviews-Dad and Gina split a huge sandwhich, which they said was really good, Joe had his own sandwich, and I opted for the stir-fry station. Not the best food I've had in Disney, but it was edible.

After dinner, it was time for our fastpasses for Test Track. My Dad has been wanting to ride this for the longest time. On one of our trips together a few years back, they were testing the ride and it opened about a week later...we were bummed we missed it. However...we get there, and it's typical Test Track-it's closed. I've never seen a ride go down so much. I know that these attractions are pushed to their limits on heavy crowd days, but Test Track is infamous for having problems. The guy spreading the disappointing news didn't know when or if it would be back up, and we were getting tired. They had a long drive tomorrow, and it was getting pretty late. We decided to give up on Test Track, and started to leave Epcot. As we were walking past Mission Space, my dad and Joe started a conversation about it. Joe had ridden it alone the past year, and really liked it. He convinced my dad to ride with him, and Gina and I would sit outside and rest and wait on them. They originally planned on doing the non-spinning version. As we waited, we literally saw a girl come out, and lie down on the grass. I'm not kidding...she was green. Nope, I'm not doing it. Don't know why, but I'm not. I'll ride the teacups, triceratop spin, space mtn, and even jump out of a plane, but I wouldn't do it. I still haven't figured out why...maybe I really do need to seek professional help.
They finally come out, and have the BIGGEST smiles on their faces. I haven't seen either one of them that happy all day. They rode the original version, and loved it! I was so happy for them, especially since Daddy was bummed about Test Track. Everybody was ready to go, and Test Track still wasn't running, so we headed out of the park. It was time to say goodbye to the last of our family members that had come with us. I was really sad to see them go. I would see them again in 4 or 5 days, but it had been such a great trip. We said our goodbye's, and jumped on the monorail back to the TTC, where we walked back to our room for the last time.

This was a depressing night-we were leaving the Poly in the morning. I felt lucky to have gotten to stay there for as long as we did, in the room that we had. It really was great, but we couldn't afford it, nor was it practical to stay for the rest of our trip. We watched fireworks from our bedroom for the last time, and I thought about the past 5 days, and how much fun everyone with us had. I decided it was a very successful family vacation, and I was so happy we had made the decision to get married in Florida with our closest family members there.

Here are some shots we got from our balcony

*sigh* I can't wait to go back to the Poly again!!!

Off to sleep for our last night there.

Up next: Chef Mickey's, moving to Pop

Beautiful photos. I hate that about Test Track.

That song you were speaking about the one that goes "Dream, the American Dream with me..." we sang that in middle school for a competition. Good song. Love the photos... I hate that you had to go home though..

Saturday, December 2, 2006

We woke up today and I realized it was over. Nope, luckily the honeymoon wasn't over, but our stay at the Poly was. I was a little bit disappointed. Okay, a LOT disappointed. Life goes on, and I kept telling myself that I was still staying at Disney a few more nights! To me, this just seemed like the last leg of our trip. Everybody was gone, and we had to go back to Pop. The beginning of the end. I really needed to get out of my whiney mood. Luckily we had resevations for Chef Mickey's at 11AM for breakfast!
Before I get ahead of myself, back to moving. For this hotel transfer, we were using Disney's free service. Someone came up and got our bags, and they arrived at Pop later that day. We had no problem with this at all, and it only cost us a few dollars in tips. After we left our room for the last time, we jumped on the resort monorail to the Contemporary. We had never been there, and I was looking forward to it. I had originally tried to get a breakfast reservation for earlier in the day, with no luck. However, it worked out really well. Chef Mickey's wasn't too crowded, and there were still plenty of charachters and lots of food!

wedding411.jpg

We were seated within a few minutes, and they recongized that we were on our honeymoon with special placemats that they told us we could keep as souvenears!

wedding407.jpg

Chef Mickey's is an all you can eat buffet, and the food was good. They had a little bit of everything....eggs, toast, pancakes, omlettes, bacon, sausage, breakfast pizzas and burritos, fruit, bagels....I could go on and on. I only devoured a few carbs for this meal LOL

My extremly healthy plate: (one of them, anyways!)
wedding394.jpg

I was so excited to find out that Donald Duck would be there that morning!! Chip and Dale are sometimes there, and sometimes Donald is....we got lucky this morning. All of the Characters came to each table for pictures and autographs...it was a lot of fun! We saw Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto, and Goofy! How much better could that have been? :)

Mickey was the most thoughtful-he asked his friendly helper to take our picture together!
wedding410.jpg

Every 30 minutes or so, they "celebrate" at Chef Mickey's. Birthday's, anniversarys, honeymoons, etc. Music comes on, they announce who's special day it is, and everybody twirls their napkins! We were announed, and got a special cupcake muffin!

wedding404.jpg

Too cute! Pluto really got into it, and came over and danced while this was going on!

wedding396.jpg

We had a really good time at Chef Mickey's. Good food, decent price, and no waiting in line for the fab 5! I would go back in the future!

After we found a lobby full of pressed penny machines (which I'm collecting), we caught the monorail back over to the MK, where we planned to catch a bus to Pop Century. I was so glad we were having a "transition" day....they were filming the Christmas parade at the MK, and there were MOBS of people. It was CRAZY!!! I was not envious of those people at all....I would happily watch it on my TV in a few weeks!

While we were on the monorail, it was standing room only, and we were sandwiched in beside of a very nice lady who told us congratulations. (We were still wearing our just married buttons.) We struck up a conversation, and told her we were married at the WP. She smiled, and told us she works for Disney, and is somehow in conjunction with DFTW! Something to do with marketing somehow or another? I was fascinated, and told her how jealous I was! :)

We caught our bus to Pop, and pulled up. Not quite the Poly, but it was still Disney. Previous to the Poly, I LOVED Pop Century. Next time we go back, I will LOVE Pop. However, I learned a serious lesson. If you are going to resort hop, stay at the nicest place last. Seriously. I had a very hard time adjusting. The lines at check in were astronomical. I realized at this point that I was getting grouchy, and I did not want to take it out on Joe, because he didn't do anything. I just needed to chill. Joe was sweet enough to stand in line while I sat in the lobby. I had requested an upper level, non smoking room, when I made the reservation. I know this can't always happen, but I was really hopeful. Joe came and got me and we walked to our new room. I was mellowed out at this point. We got to our room....and I couldn't deal with it. It was on the 1st floor, it was smoking, and it was right beside a loud pool. So this would be where we spend the end of our honeymoon? Nope, Joe called the desk before I even opened my mouth. The said no problem....just come back to the front and we'll set you up with a new room! Great, that's nice of them! Like I said, I know that I'm one of millions of people with requests at Disney, and I'm no better than anybody else, but I was on my honeymoon and didn't want a room beside the pool. Boy, I really sound like a spoiled rotten brat! I'm not, I promise, and I would never ask to change rooms on a normal trip. But this was not normal :)

We got our new room, which was much better(the person at the front desk was very nice) and we got our luggage not too much later! The luggage transfer was easy and painless, just like the luggage transfer with Magical Express. Things were looking up. We lounged around for a little while, and decided to try MGM for a few hours, so we hopped on a bus over there.

There weren't but a few hours of daylight left, so we went straight for a few of the big rides. We got fastpasses for Tower of Terror, and got in line for RocknRoller Coaster because the standby was only 20 minutes. That 20 minutes turned into over an hour in line. I don't know what happened. If we could have gotten out, we would have, but we didn't realize how far back we were. The ride was pretty good...I didn't remember it from previous trips all that much, so every loop was a surprise. We headed over to ToT next, and walked straight on with our Fast Passes. We both loved Tower of Terror and decided we would definitely have to ride it again if we could before we went home. I really wanted to see Muppets 3D, so we headed that way.

Muppets was great-such a cute show! I love all of those charachters-my brother and I always used to watch the Muppet Baby cartoons when we were younger....the ones with "Nanny", who was the character who only had the striped legs! LOL Ok, if you never saw it, you have no idea what I'm talking about, but if you have seen it...wasn't that bizarre? LOL But such a good show! :)

It was now dark, and we somehow stumbled upon millions and millions of lights. And millions and millions of people. We found the Osborne Spectacle of Lights. It really was unreal. I have never seen so many lights. They had them choreographed to music every 15 mins or so, which was really cool. I have more pics of it that I'll post once I upload them.

wedding418.jpg

I think everybody decided to go to MGM that night, so we fought the crowd and headed out. Back at Pop, I indulged in another healthy food group..tye-dye cheesecake :)

wedding419.jpg

Honestly it tasted just like normal cheesecake, but where else can you get something like that? That was probably my 5th piece of cheesecake since we arrived in Florida-good grief, what had gotten into me?!? :) Oh well, I would pay for it once I got home!
I have some more pictures to upload for the rest of the report, but once I do I'll be back! :)

That cheesecake looks so yummy. The DDP turned me on to desserts... in a not good way. Ever since we have been home ive craved desserts after we eat supper (not a good thing).

You liked Rockin Rollercoaster? YIKES_ i dont think I would step on that thing with a 10 foot pole. I road ToT last year and HATED it.. I would have pressed the button to stop the ride had there been one. My nails dug into DH's arm so bad -- he was ready to get me off too. It wouldnt have been as bad if i was able to count down how many drops we had left-- but I didnt know so im thinking we dropped 4309u4 times. :scared1:

I know what you mean about value vs deluxe resorts. I was raised on Deluxe accomodations-- so when DH and iwent last year and stayed value-- i was highly disappointed. We went back this year and stayed only in deluxe. I think we will go to moderate next trip just for money purposes... im spoiled... its my parents fault.

love the photos-- especially the characters... such a memory:hug:

Becky- I am so glad you have added to your TR! That's cool about the Segway tour. DF wanted to do it until he found out you have to be at Epcot at 8am  I felt exactly like you did after the Nemo ride. I just didn't get it. DF and his parents thought it was so cool that it was part cartoon, part real aquarium. I thought the cool part of the ride ended after sitting in the cute shells! I totally understand about the Pop situation. My goodness, you don't sound like a spoiled brat at all. My first time staying at a value was this Dec when we went for our planning session, and we stayed at Pop. Never ever again! It was just a bad experience, I could hear EVERYTHING our neighbors were doing through the walls

Can't wait to read more :)

Yet another TR I have missed! I just finished reading the whole thing. You looked beautiful on your Wedding Day:hug: Glad everything went without a hitch.
I would love to stay at The Poly, but when I got my TA to price it up it was costing an extra $2000 so we decided to stay with CBR. You are right though leave the best hotel til last. We are doing CBR, then AKL, haven't been to either, they both look beautiful! But The Poly, wow, everything about it seems so wonderful, I had no idea you could get such good views of the fireworks from there. Randy has suggested getting pics of the fireworks from The GF on the marina, but maybe we would be closer if we got them taken at The Poly....hmmm, any thoughts?
What exactly are segways? Are they those weird looking machines you were on?
Your love for cheesecake is also my downfall, if I could have it every day I would:love: unfortunately I'm trying to lose weight for the big day, but I figure I'm not dieting when I get there, so cheesecake or maybe a dessert platter all for me might take place!
Oooh, we are booking Chef Mickey's for my mom's last day at Disney, I so hope that we get all the characters there, I love Pluto and Donald the most, your pictures with them are wonderful.
I am really enjoying your TR, sorry I missed it before:flower3: Being sick with the flu has it's benefits, I can catch up on all my DIS topics.

Wow, I missed this trip report but glad it was bumped up so I could read it all. You were a very beautiful bride, your wedding sounds amazing. Congratulations.

Jen-- thats exactly how I felt but never would have said that. I wouldnt want to get flamed. Dont get me wrong-- Nemo the music was super cute-- and I cried... but the ride was lame-- it seemed like it needed to be over near the Winnie the Pooh ride or something (not that Winnie the Pooh is lame--:sad2: I think I keep digging myself a bigger hole).

Haha :rotfl: I'm glad you feel the same way. It's just our opinions though! Nemo was a great movie, I even have some stuffed toys of Nemo and Crush... I just didn't get the ride :confused3

Great trip report! Isn't the Segway tour fun, Rick and I did it during our 1st anniversary trip and we just did them again in St. Maartin. It was easy to remember how to ride.

I love your fireworks pictures, mine never come out that good.
