A Different Type of Contemporary Speculation

Obviously, the "main" speculation is that Contemporary will be the next DVC. I definitely think it will be DVC but also think it will be mixed-use.

I have certainly be vocal about my displeasure of "that awful c-shaped thing" (as I have come to refer to it). But the podcast crew mentioned something the other week that has stuck in my head....

The thinking is that they may also tear down the south wing and make another c-shaped thing facing the first one (the one being built now) and thus there will be a Mickey silhouette from an aerial view.

Now, this is nothing more that speculation (not even rumor), but this somehow makes MUCH more sense to me. Without the silhouette idea, this may as well be "Miami High Rise Condo"...but if the long-term goal was to make it a Mickey silhouette, well, that screams Disney Imagineering.

Just a thought to fuel the fires. Sorry if that has been discussed already. I have been hanging out on the WISH boards for the last month and have not been over here much (I am training for a Disney race! :thumbsup2 )

I have seen it mentioned before the the south wing will be torn down and a second tower will be built. If this is true, then it would make sense why there has not been an official DVC confirmation. The hotel may have won most of the internal battle for control of the new tower. This could help explain the recent discovery of the treehouse demo and reconstruction for possible DVC sales.

All this speculation is such fun!

LOL....oh man, that would mean even more Years of speculation on a CRV coming into the second tower, instead of the first! I don't know if I want to see these threads going on that long! Now I have a reason to pray that this tower will be DVC, so everyone can just start complaining about the price, MF's or something else!

I took one of the MK tours in January. The subject of the Contemporary construction came up. The cast member giving the tour, who certainly seemed confident, said that it was most definitely a DVC property. I asked him how he was so sure, as there had been much speculation and rumor, but nothing confirmed. He replied, that he hoped who wasn't spilling anything he wasn't supposed to, but the Contemporary construction had been referred to as a DVC property in numerous internal communications. I know cast members can be a source of mis-information, but this guy was quite clear about having seen it in writing.

Thing is, the south wing was just recently completely renovated. I don't see them tearing it down and building a second tower anytime soon.

I agree with 3DisneyKids. The current design of the "C thing" leave a little to be desired. Especially, with my high expectations of Disney. I would be much more impressed if this is actually an outline of Mickey/Minnie.

Perhaps the tower under construction will not be DVC. They will have a lot of inventory with AKV, Hawaii, GC and Treehouses. Then as that inventory reaches sell out, they might tear down the South Wing and make a DVC tower. This would accomplish several things.

1) DVC wouldn;t have too many things under construction during a questionable time in our economy.

2) It would give the economy time to recover.

3) It would give DVC sales prices per point time to rise to better cover construction costs.

4) It would give better sales inventory flow than lumping everything out there at once.

5) It would enable Disney to meet what seems to be a growing demand for high-end cash suites.

Under this scenario, they could also follow the blueprint they used for AKV - start selling existing DVC points in the north tower as they build the south.

If they are trying to create the biggest Hidden Mickey in the world, why didn't the Imagineers turn the North Wing addition around the other way? I know that the current footprint will give more guests a lake view, so it could be one of those "kinda/sorta" Hidden Mickeys. But to be 100% Mickey, the curves of the ears should be pointed up, not down. :mickeyjum
