Day Six continued
Rotating. Rodents. Ravage. A. Rutabaga.
Two parts of this title are fictitious and completely(ish) off-topic. Can you guess which two? Read on and you’ll soon see if you’re right…
So Leo, Gramma and I were on our way to Epcot, where we arrived safely and in plenty of time for our last ADR, stopping first for some Soarin’ FP’s. Leo and V might get our rides on after all!
Dining Review 10 – Garden Grill
First off, I knew – I
knew – I should request a table on the lower tier, but didn’t.
Strike one for V.
I also knew I probably ought to ask that we
not be seated near the kitchen doors, but I didn’t.
Strike two.
And so we were assigned a table on the upper tier, smack dab in front of kitchen doors and right next to the bus station.
Strike three. V’s out.
Only I wasn’t. Out. I was still
in my favorite character meal location, which was GOOD! So I overlooked the carppy table and focused on why we were there:
1. The Mouse. The Head Honcho. The Grand Poobah. Le Grand Roi. The only character Leo really wants to see each trip.
2. The food. Which was delicious in December and we were certain would be just as good in May.
3. The scenery. Okay, we weren’t going to see as much way up there, but we’d still see enough. Because this here joint ROTATES through the three scenes of Living With the Land. So as you eat your home-cooked vittles, you get to check out a rainforest, American plains and a farm.
So, which parts of the title did you guess were fictitious?
There were, indeed, rodents. Of several sizes and colors. Mickey, Chip and Dale. And a couple prairie dogs in the Plains scene. Though, now that I think about it, are they really rodents? Whatever.
There was some serious ravaging. Of food. Going on. I’ll get back to this, but everything was yummy again and we ate plenty.
A Rutabaga? Not so much. But there
were some root vegetables, so I’ll give partial credit on this one.
The rotating restaurant, however, was NOT ROTATING.
At the time we were seated, our table was facing the opening, looking out onto the busy, noisy, ginormous atrium of The Land. It was perfect! By the time we’d settled in, we’d be entering the first scene, whereupon a hush would fall over us and we’d enjoy a calm, relaxing meal with Mick and the gang.
Only, we were NOT ROTATING.
After sitting there about 5 minutes, I asked our server what was going on and she said they had a malfunction, but the service guys were working on it.
Sigh.
This is why I’m afraid to ever eat a second time at a WDW restaurant with which we’ve had a terrific experience. EVERY time we do so, the second visit fails to live up to its predecessor. Call it V’s Fuzzy Disney Law.
Leo wasn’t too happy, as LWTL is one of favorite rides and he
loved being able to pick out all the details of the scenes while we ate last time. But we made the best of it, and the characters helped us focus on other things.
The food…. was delicious once again! Gone were the yummy stuffing and bread pudding to-die-for

, but the new menu delights nonetheless.
Rolls and honey-orange blossom butter:
Flank steak:
Turkey with cranberry relish:
Fried catfish:
Scalloped potatoes:
Vegetables:
Berry pastry puff:
But. We still were NOT ROTATING.
Finally, about halfway through dessert, a man appeared out of the kitchen, stuck a key into a wall socket across from our table, turned the key, pushed a button, and
SUCCESS!!! We s l o w l y began our counter-clockwise journey. Fifteen minutes later, we’d finshed dessert, drank our coffee and paid the bill. And only seen a few feet of the rainforest scene. I knew what our first EP ride would be.
Sure enough, Leo requested a ride on LWTL, and Gramma and I were only too happy to oblige. We like this one!
After that, I think we roamed around Future World a while, checking out the Flower & Garden Fest displays and no doubt riding in the Big Ball. We probably did some other stuff, too, but by the last day I’d stopped writing anything down and we rarely have a detailed itinerary for EP.
I KNOW!!!!!
Oh wait, I know we stopped in at Mouse Gears. I needed to buy a birthday present for my sweet friend in PA and found the perfect Tink desk clock. It was all packed up for shipping in its box, which I wrapped in the store bag and stuffed into the stroller basket. Remember that.
We eventually made it over to the World Showcase, starting in Mexico.
Yep, we rode the new and “improved” Mexico river ride thing. I don’t have much to say about it. I can’t stand Donald, so featuring His Duckness wasn’t doing anything to endear me. Other than that, eeh. It was fine. Nothing spectacular, just fine. It still has the same effect it always did on me: makes me want to book a cruise on the Love Boat with ports of call at Puerta Vallarta and Acapulco. And. Wear a dangerously low-cut string bikini. While sipping a pink drink in a grotto.
I miss Isaac.
Maelstrom was – GASP – closed for refurbishment, so we missed out on that. But I hear it’s still a Fast Pass.
It was looking a bit like rain, so I broke out the rain gear for the stroller to be prepared.
Pretty funny, no? I had NO problem dropping the money on a Maclaren stroller last year. That sucker turns on a dime and weighs, like, nothing! But. I was totally unwilling to spend $50 on the package one would need to get the Maclaren rain cover. Instead, I bought a $14 Combi one and made do. Remember that, too.
Next up was China, one of my favorite spots in EP.
I can easily spend an hour in the store! But Leo’s never seen the movie and I haven’t seen it in about 10 years, so we parked the stroller, ensuring the rain cover was, well, covering, and headed on in.
Due to the threat of rain, the Chinese acrobats were performing in the movie waiting area, so we got an extra treat!
Leo was a little wary of the movie. He was traumatized by
It’s Tough to be a Bug and
Mickey’s Philharmagic years ago and has only recently been coaxed into dark theater-like rooms. But he just LOVED the movie in China! He had a lot of questions and remembered that his friend at school went to China last year and had sent him a postcard from there. I cannot wait to start traveling internationally with my boy!
We came out of the theater and saw that it had been raining pretty hard and was still coming down, so we lingered in the shop, which was just fine with me. I picked up a few more gifts for upcoming friends’ Bdays. And a tea cup for me with my Chinese astrological sign. I’m a Boar. TFI.
When we got back to the stroller…. it was a total WRECK. As some of you may already have guessed, my idiotic attempt at saving a few bucks resulted in one soggy mess of a stroller. The cheapo rain cover was flipped backward, protecting only the freaking handles of the ride. The seat was soaked. Lucky for Leo, I was also too cheap to spring for the seat cover, so the mesh could probably be dried off with some paper towels. Unluckily for V, the rain poured right through the mesh seat. Into the bag with my friend’s Tink clock. The clock was fine, but the packaging was a little rough.
We spent a good 20 minutes in the Norwegian ladies’ room drying the whole mess off. Two days after we got home, I ordered the Maclaren rain cover. It hasn’t rained since at any time I’ve had the stroller out.
We made our way around the lagoon to Morocco for dinner.
