A CM said WHAT???

Here's my strange CM experience at Boma:

Me: Sorry, I am a few minutes last (give name) party of 1

CM: How many children?

Me: None, party of 1, just me

CM: oh, your husband decided to stay in the room?

Me: No, party of 1, I am here by myself

CM: Oh, your traveling on business?

Me: No

CM: Vacation? (oh she's getting bright!)

Me: Yes

CM: Why would anyone come to WDW on vacation alone?

Me: I love it here and the company doesn't fight back about my plans for the day :rotfl:

Side note: I have done several Solo trips (as wekll as small and big family trips), this was only one of 2 bad solo dining experiences, hope I don't disuade any solos!

I had one experience with 2 cms in Mk. It was a cold, rainy day and we entered an almost deserted MK just in time for the 3pm parade. My husband took the kids into the town square to watch while I looked for the ladies room under the train station. I couldn't find it at first so as I approached the info desk to ask, the two cm's had their backs to me. They were discussing all the stupid questions people ask them and mimicing us guests. I stood quietly for a moment then said "excuse me" they turned around kind of shocked and I said "just another stupid tourist wondering where the bathroom is" :teeth: Well they couldn't apologize enough and were very nice to me. I didn't take offense but others might have and they could have gotten in trouble.

I know this thread is about CM's who say the wrong things... but I would like to share a story about a CM that was wonderful. It was actually a CM that worked as part of the cleaning crew at AK. He was an older man and he was so cheerful and talkative. After we were done speaking and laughing with him my DH said " WOW... even there clean up crew is friendly and nice, I wonder were Disney gets all these wonderful people".

I just thought I would share that, first because my DH rarely makes comments on how nice people are and second so people knwo that not all CM are out spoken and rude, but that there are a whole lot that magic magic and make the magic come out of us guests. :wizard:

Oh, here's one. Last November, I lost my cell phone at MK sometime that afternoon. And with everywhere I had been, it was like finding a needle in a haystack remembering all of where I went. I tried to back track, with no cell phone to be found.

Now, I am in healthcare, and I get a lot of calls from patients and their families, as well as my office staff and clients. Silly me. I actually check voice mails throughout the day on my breaks from playing at WDW. Go figure.

Anyway, when I find out that my phone is missing, I went straight to the City Hall (or whatever it is called where you go to find lost items). I had checked back several times throughout the night (during MVMCP) to see if anyone had turned it in. They had not. I was talking with two CM's (one from France) and explained that I really would like to find my cell phone, and did they have any other suggestions on where I could find it. I explained to one of the CM's that I use my phone for business and that at that point I had no way of checking in to see if anyone had called. No, I am not this big important person, but I had just started with the company a few months before and we were at a critical stage in our growth. I had already had my trip planned so I thought I could do both (check voice messages and play) at the same time, like I always did before. Silly me.

Obviously not understanding that I use my cell phone mostly for business purposes, the CM whose name tag showed she was from France said, "You are so weird". I looked at her like she had a snake on her head! I had been calm, yet frustrated, throughout my conversations with the CM's, knowing it was not their fault I lost my cell phone. But they could tell I was a bit frustrated at the situation, not them. And I have no idea why she said what she did.

The other CM, in horror by what Miss France said, speedily stated that they could call a couple of places for me to see if it had turned up elsewhere. I then informed Miss France that some of us use our cell phones for other purposes than to chatter with friends, and that my phone was used for business reasons. She kind of took the hint then that what she said was so off base, insulting and inappropriate. What a ding a ling!

In August we were at the TTA, getting ready to go up. Some people go up to the CM at the bottom and ask him where Space Mountain is.

This little punk then proceeds to just be a jag.

"It is the MOUNTAIN (insert your snottiest voice here) right there. Come on people it is a MOUNTAIN! Every day people come up to me and ask where Space Mountain is. I mean, it's a MOUNTAIN people. Look for the MOUNTAIN!"

Seriously, I don't think I've ever encountered a ruder person. I felt really bad for the poor people who just wanted to ride the MOUNTAIN.

And to top it all off, Space Mountain is inside a building, so it doesn't appear to be a mountain from the outside! Unbelievable! Too bad we can't turn these CM's in right then and there! I know, take a picture of them with your cell phone or digital camera and share it, (along with your comments) with Guest Services on the way out! :flower:

On our last trip, we were at World of Disney and I was shopping for a watch. Getting a new watch on every trip has been my *thing*. On our trip, my MIL offered to buy my watch as a gift (I'm a lucky girl). So, when I finally got the CM to help me (she helped others first and then asked my MIL if she had been helped, ignoring me) she wasn't very nice. MIL were looking at watches and *shopping* (Oooh, look at this! See that one?) and one of the watches MIL pointed out, I already had from my honeymoon. The CM sarcastically said "Aren't we spoiled?" I was so irritated, she was not kind and quite judgemental. MIL said "I'll spoil who I wish."

Just for that, even though I already had my mind made up, I made her pull out a number of other watches to show me. I decided not to complain to a supervisor, I hoped she was just having a bad night and that she's nicer to other guests.

I told a CM that someone had left a dirty diaper in a row of the Muppet Show, and the CM said, "Don't sit near it."

I took his name after the show, and he looked really scared that I would report him, but I'm too nice, and I didn't.

OMG :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

This was not from a CM, but was on our way to WDW...

We were flying to Disney in Jan. right after 9/11 with our 3 children ages 5, 3 and 1. At the airport, my husband was asked to remove his shoes and an airline security man scanned them with a wand. After my husband put his shoes back on, the airport security guy leans over to my 5 year old son and says " Do you know why we check people's shoes? Someone put a bomb in his shoe and tried to blow up an airplane recently!". This is right before we are about to head to the gate! I think my husband and I were in shock at first and we kept on walking. We just couldn't believe he would say that. I got so angry that I called the airport, and the airport security company to report him.

ok. i will be the first to say that for the most part I have had great experiences with the CMs. i have always been treated nicely. Even when they had to ask me something that could be thought of as insulting they always preempte with "I'm sorry but I have to ask this" (Like when our room key wasn't working and I asked a manager about it - who was just walking by and I caught them- and she asked if I had inserted it facing the right way after apologizing for having to ask) but that doesn't annoy me because we have all been guilty of leaving our brains at home for a while.

Unfortunately, the last time I went we did have a bad experience. While staying at POR we had gone to TL for the day. Got rained out and were waiting for the bus along with about 35 other people who had stuck around and waited to see if the rain would stop. Now, as many of you know, POR is not very far from TL. As we waited we saw atleast 3 OKW busses and atleast 2 of every other resort pass by. Finally, after 45 minutes of waiting we asked if someone could radio a bus. After about another 10 minutes the bus comes. We get on, all of us happy that we are going back to our hotel. As we get seated the bus driver proceeds to give us a lecture that lasted all the way back to the resort that started with "in a perfect world it would only take 17 minutes to go from the resort to TL and back" and just kept chastising us about having to wait. Now, had he not said anything at all or simply empathized with us, I would have been fine. But I don't need a 10 minute lecture in traffic or transportation. I got hi sname and bus number and told teh manager at POR who passed the info to the transportation manager who called me. he was not happy when I relayed the story to him. Apparently it wasn't the first time he'd heard this about this busdriver.

I felt bad because I am not one to complain. I know people have bad days. but thi swas too much even for me.

Called once to change our resort from CBR to Pop and the CM on the phone said that the Pop was like a "motel 6" and wouldn't I just be happier staying at the CBR?

I can laugh about her now but at the time, I was really put off. Esp when considering that we had to change due to a another family members situation...not b/c we wanted to. Still, I felt that it wasn't her right to insert her obvious disapproval and I didn't appreciate her "poo-ing" on the magic of our vacation. (though in the long run, her "insight" had no bearing on how much fun we had! :))

Ah, space mountain is the HUGE white thing in Tomorrowland & can be seen from miles around. I think is more shaped like an upsidown cone, it is pretty hard to miss.

To the poster who was watch shopping, Wold of Disny is the best place to buy a watch. They have the best selection, in my opinion (Unfortunately, I have at least 45 watches :earboy2: )

We all have bad days, unfortunately. I am sure we have said stuff at the office we wish we could take back. My old boss actually hung up on a client once; his partner had to call them back. They left us anyway...

We were at MGM one day and passed by Buzz and Woody signing autographs. The park was really crowded and the line was crazy long. So instead of standing in the line, I just snapped a quick pic of them as we walked by. About that time, a CM "handler", I guess he was, sees me and says "Move it along, people. The line forms here. But feel free to take as many pictures of OTHER PEOPLES FAMILIES as you want. :earseek:

Some of them have never visited WDW as a guest. Their first experiene with WDW was when they began working there. It must seem incredible the way people spend money at WDW. There is no way they could ever do it.

That's probably true, but that does not give them the right to comment to guests about what they're buying and how much money they're spending! Too many CM's seem to forget who is paying their salaries. If they're unhappy in their jobs, they need to find another line of work.

We were checking into Boardwalk on our 25th anniversary. The CM wished us a happy anniversary then proceeded to reveal that it would have been her 25th year of marriage, but her DH left her for a younger woman. She told us the entire story while she was checking us in. It didn't ruin our vacation, but it got off to a little bit of a sad start.

The story about the CM from France made me smile. It sounds like she didn't really understand what she had said. She may have thought that "weird" and "upset" meant the same thing.

We've had a few instances of less than magical CM's, and we've had more than our share of super experiences. Overall, Disney CM's do a great job at making the magic happen!

Yes, I agree. I was definitely taken aback when he said it. I DO want to stress though that we really just laughed it off!

I'm Princesstommi's MIL (and I'm the lucky one). This CM was thoroughly and unnecessarily irritating. We were both shocked by her attitude. It wasn't a case of "misunderstood humor". She was just outright nasty. I almost asked for a supervisor and probably should have. We would have dumped the whole thing and come back later, but this was our last night and we wouldn't have another chance to shop.

BTW, the watch is lovely. :) So Merry Christmas, PT! (Just kidding!)

I've been cracking up at your stories! I have one from when we went in September. We went right after Hurricane Katrina hit- and we live in baton rouge, which is South Louisiana. I was at the conceriege desk at the BWV getting my passes put onto my rooms cards and the guy who was helping me noticed I was from Louisiana. We were chatting about the hurricanes and all that was going on. I was telling him about the family staying with us and that they may be joining us later in the week. He began commenting on all the looting going on in New Orleans and proceeded to tell me that he grew up in a poor family and saw no problem with everyone stealing whatever they needed to survive. I told him that I did not have a problem with them taking food or things like that, but that I had friends who owned businesses in New Orleans and I didn't think it was right to take things other than food like stereos, jewelry and TVs. He then said that when you are poor, you should be able to steal anything you'd like since you are poor and the owners of that property are not! This blew me away- I could not understand how it was OK to steal a TV just because you are poor! They didn't even have electricity! I didn't say anything though, because it was a touchy situation. However, I would never trust him with my money or anything important! DH wanted to give him a piece of his mind, too.

WOW! Makes you hope he did not have access to your room or that he was not poor.
