A CM said WHAT???

Okay, I went up to Robin Hood on our vacation. He ran up to me and just started hugging me, then fuzzled-is that a word-up my hair. I didn't care, it was a little strange. He then got up in front of our digital camera and all you can see is his face. My dad said it had to be a girl.

I was also going around getting autographs one day, and went up to Goofy, he flipped through the book, saw Woody's signature, and kinda waved it off like he was saying "who cares about him?" I thought it was pretty funny.

Our favorite castmember/character experience happened about 3 years ago at Chef Mickey's. Mickey came up to our table and begin frantically miming for us to look somewhere. We couldn't figure out what he was saying. He kept bending up and down quickly and pointing to the windows. We kept guessing like a bad game of charades that lasted about 4 minutes. Finally Mickey spelled out something by "writing" out the word with his finger on our table. It turned out that during the "Celebrate" song, Minnie's Bloomers had fallen down. We never saw Minnie, but we laughed for about 10 minutes. It was a hoot. Not to mention great video of Mickey waving frantically! :earseek:

We were at MGM one day and passed by Buzz and Woody signing autographs. The park was really crowded and the line was crazy long. So instead of standing in the line, I just snapped a quick pic of them as we walked by. About that time, a CM "handler", I guess he was, sees me and says "Move it along, people. The line forms here. But feel free to take as many pictures of OTHER PEOPLES FAMILIES as you want. :earseek:

This struck me as particularly rude for some reason- who cares if you didn't want to wait in an obscenely long line for a character picture? Thankfully rude CMs aren't the "norm" at Disney ;)

I'm Princesstommi's MIL (and I'm the lucky one). This CM was thoroughly and unnecessarily irritating. We were both shocked by her attitude. It wasn't a case of "misunderstood humor". She was just outright nasty. I almost asked for a supervisor and probably should have. We would have dumped the whole thing and come back later, but this was our last night and we wouldn't have another chance to shop.

BTW, the watch is lovely. :) So Merry Christmas, PT! (Just kidding!)

Wow! You sound like an amazing MIL. Your tag is so sweet. My MIL passed away several years ago. Your DIL is so lucky to have you. If you ever need another DIL . . . I'm yours!

I would go up to some character for an autograph and picture and the CMs would just tell me to move along.

Sure it does. But, even if that is debateable, what in the world makes it look like a mountain from the inside?

Uh... maybe it's all of those hills (mountains) you go up and down!

No need to pick apart the poster's comments . . . the CM she/he was referring to was rude whether or not anyone thinks it looks like a mountain on the inside or out. Make love, not war.

Ok I'll bite  its a curse word to me and would have offended me to have it said in front of me and my kids. I probably wouldn't have reported him though.

Well perhaps it is a curse word to you, but it's not a universal thing like the f word or s word. Many, if not most people don't find it offensive, so I was just saying that's why he probably hasn't gotten in trouble as it's not an actual curse word. That doesn't mean it might not offend some people though, but then everything can offend someone. I'm sure if he had said oh he definately would have gotten in trouble:)

Donald Duck at Chef Mickey's on October 3rd was RUDE! And he (or she?) was also very lucky! We had driven all day and got to CM to kick off my children's first trip (for 2 of them anyway), so they had never seen any characters before and were timid. DD4 saw Donald Duck, who was chatting up 2 other cast members, and began to walk over to him. I was off to the side, out of his field of vision. He leaned down like he was going to tackle her, lunged forward so fast that she flinched, and then stood up and kept talking to his friends. When he lunged, his whole body jerked and he raised his arms; it was clear she was not getting a hug or any sort of affection. It was clearly a threat. Above, I said he was lucky-- he was a lucky duck indeed that I didn't knock his costume right off his head.

I agree with this and think he should have gotten in trouble for saying either of those. In my opinion (its only mine) it is a curse word and more offensive to ME than the other words. Just my opinion. In any case, I would not have reported him (im just there to relax and have fun) and it wouldn't have ruined my day. :wave2:

Mine happened last June in the MK. I was with my ds who is visually impaired and wears real thick glasses. We were in frontierland when it started to rain and stepped into some store to purchase some ponchos and the cm behind the counter asked my son why he had such thick glasses? OK so she was curious so I told her to help him see better to that she replied yeah but those are so thick! she repeated this a couple more times during the transaction and I know it made him feel uncomfortable because he just kept staring at the ground. I didn't want to cause a big scene and make it worse for him so we just hurried out and went on our way. I really don't think she was trying to be mean but still....

When I was at WDW in September, I noticed that a number of CMs made sarcastic comments and jokes about the rate of pay at Disney. I always viewed those comments as inappropriate and they wore away the magic a bit.

Yep, it is sad. My DS and I were chatting with a CM as my DD and DH were riding Goofy's Barnstormer and a guy came up and just handed the CM a bag of trash and said, "Thanks" and walked off. RUDE! He was a good sport about it, laughed and threw it away. As he was coming back I joked that this is what he gets paid the big bucks for, then he rolls his eyes and tells me that he only makes minimum wage...it made me think less of Disney that this awesome hardworking CM with a great attitude got so little respect from his employer. We pay so much for our experience, I wish that CM's would be compensated for their hard work and loyalty as well.

A few years back my family and I stayed at the main building concierge of the Grand Floridian. It was some of the worst service we ever had, mostly from 2-3 of the concierge CM's. One day we arrived back from the parks thirsty and hungry looking for some juice and cookies (that were supposed to be out at the time)..we didnt see any so we asked the CM and he said, "sorry, they are G-O-N". and then he walked away from us. (Assume he was spelling gone and misspelled it?). We also saw this CM talking about some of the other guests and laughing about what they were wearing...he didnt think anyone could hear him but we could.

Dont know if this should be on another thread or not, but what about rude guests? On another trip, my nephew who was only 3 was crying on his way out of MK, he didnt want to leave. He wasnt throwing a full blown tantrum, just crying and asking to stay....well, some guy, about 40 years old, came up and yelled in his face "WAH WAH WAH, WHAT A BABY!!!"

a waiter at Artist point that after acting like we were the slime of the earth most of the evening, when one adult in our party tried to make small talk with him by telling him we had just driven in that afternoon from Ohio sniffed( like we smelled )and said with his nose turned up "I can tell", ( btw we had napped showered and changed so any odor wasn't from us ;))

evidently we have waiter problems cause at Boma when we said we were using a breakfast voucher ours sniffed and said " oh food stamps" and walked away..
or the cm laughed hysterically at me when i said B"a"ma instead of B"oo"ma and said "it's Boma" between sounding like she was doubled over laughing and i was the dumbest think on the planet. at least i made her day

most cms we have encountered have been extra nice though and personally i feel bad for some who are put in a situation where they are constantly reminded of their own lack of disposable income. from what i've seen, most people who hold low paying jobs are not doing so cause of their desire to be poor  and from what i have read the "joy" of working "for disney" just ain't what it used to be. it must be difficult working hard to try to pay for basics like food and housing knowing the "big guys" make millions in bonuses every year ( end of my rant on that subject)

Well, I just want to say that an explanation for some of these weird comments are that the CM's are probably College Programers and let's face it their kids ( I was in their shoes once). That said.............I was very good friends with a certain Peter Pan  that always would encourage kids to pick their boogars and I thought that was really inappropriate and totally out of character. He also said other VERY out of character things spontaneously that embarrased me.

I LOVED your story! :rotfl: BTW, I know Peter Pan in your picture. He's very nice.

Four stories come to mind:

1.) We were on a trail ride at FW and the trail guide CM (really friendly guy) loudly talked with the person riding the trail in back of him about how rampant the sexually transmitted diseases running through the college program housing were. He went into a lot of detail about the wild behavior of the kids in the program. Unfortunately, my 13/14 year old son was on the trail behind him and heard every word. I was not happy...

2.) We have six sons ages 2-19. Several years ago when we had only five children we were walking through the BW. The CM working at the DVC sales podium stopped us and offered our youngest some stickers. Then she counted how many children we had and looking at the boys said, "Your POOR mother!" She went on and on in this negative line of talking. My DH and I piped up and told her what a joy they were to us and so on... She changed her tune pretty quickly when she realized what she had been saying. I felt really bad for my sons. :sad1:

3.) There was a female server CM at Boma (an older foreign woman) that got to know us by sight over the years. When I was expecting our last child she made a lot of comments in front of my kids about how dreadful it would be if I had another boy and proceeded to do some kind of weird ritual over my abdomen and some kind of humming/chanting. It really creeped me out... :confused3 (I had another boy :rotfl: )

4.) We were at Beauty and the Beast in MGM when the parks were suddenly closed because of the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington. Before the announcement came to clear the parks I had been having friendly conversation with a young male CM that worked at the stage show because I had cut my leg and he was helping me with bandages, etc. When the announcement came I was there alone with my five sons as my DH was in Gainesville on business that day. I found the CM that had been helping me and asked him if he had any more knowledge about what was really going on here and why were we having to leave the park. He proceeded to confide in me that Chicago, Boston, Camp David, Washington and New York had been attacked and that Disney World itself was now threatened. I know he was trying to be helpful and I know there were a lot of rumors going around at that time but honestly that was more information than I needed to know. It was more frightening than you could imagine to have that "inside information" and have to wait alone (no DH) with my sons behind a slow line of people exiting the park. I was looking at the sky wondering if we were just sitting ducks for the next attack...

How sweet! Thank you so much. We only have one son, and we're pretty sure that slot is filled for the long haul. She's a keeper.

I've been cracking up at your stories! I have one from when we went in September. We went right after Hurricane Katrina hit- and we live in baton rouge, which is South Louisiana. I was at the conceriege desk at the BWV getting my passes put onto my rooms cards and the guy who was helping me noticed I was from Louisiana. We were chatting about the hurricanes and all that was going on. I was telling him about the family staying with us and that they may be joining us later in the week. He began commenting on all the looting going on in New Orleans and proceeded to tell me that he grew up in a poor family and saw no problem with everyone stealing whatever they needed to survive. I told him that I did not have a problem with them taking food or things like that, but that I had friends who owned businesses in New Orleans and I didn't think it was right to take things other than food like stereos, jewelry and TVs. He then said that when you are poor, you should be able to steal anything you'd like since you are poor and the owners of that property are not! This blew me away- I could not understand how it was OK to steal a TV just because you are poor! They didn't even have electricity! I didn't say anything though, because it was a touchy situation. However, I would never trust him with my money or anything important! DH wanted to give him a piece of his mind, too.

Why is that hard to believe. Celine Dion said pretty much the same thing on Larry King. :rotfl:

By the by, I'm from Lake Charles. Glad you and yours are safe. Rita ripped through here like a.... well, like a category 3 hurricane. We were blessed, though. Everyon's safe. Our home was miraculously completely undamaged.

We were on "Living with the Land" I think it was last year and it was during an EMH night so there wasn't a line and they were waiting for a few more people to get on the boat before we left so the CM with the microphone was talking to the CM letting people on and she kept saying "I can't wait until we close. I'm so ready to go home." into the microphone and the other one would say "Yeah I know. I've been ready to go since I got here this afternoon." It was so uncomfortable! We just sat there like apparently we were being a burden.

And we ate dinner one night at Akershus in Norway and our server didn't say much of anything to us and then he started talking about how in Norway they are so much more open with their sexuality than Americans are. And how they have multiple partners and have sex at an early age. It was so weird especially sitting at a table with my 25 year old brother and my Dad who looked like he was having a heart attack.
