A CM said WHAT???

Except for this one instance we've always had great CMs and wonderful memories. This wasn't absolutely terrible....in fact, I've never told a soul - not even my hubby. It didn't ruin my trip, but I've never forgotten it either.

We were checking into the AKL...our first deluxe stay and we were all very excited to be here. The CM checking us in must have been new because she had a supervisor over her shoulder double checking everything she did.

As she is entering things into the computer, the supervisor says, "oh no, wait. We can't give her that room - that is reserved for our special guests." I just thought, 'well, I guess there's no doubt they don't consider us special!'. Not that I minded her correcting the other CM...for all I know she was putting us into a suite or something. But I thought she could've done it without saying that! :earseek: Just say, "no that is incorrect" and stepped in and fixed it...after I had walked away she could've said, "only the rich folks get that room....couldn't you look at her and tell she's a nobody?" LOL Anyway, that is what I felt she was saying. It didn't affect my trip, my happiness or my feelings of satisfaction with my life :rotfl: But I also didn't think it was a very professional way to handle it either.

On my birthday I was in MGM in the little Muppet shop and asked to trade pins with a CM, he traded me his, I give him mine, thank him and then am about to move on when he starts making a big fuss over how he doesn't like the pin and how its so ugly and how I should give him something better. Mind you, neither pin was anything special, just regular character pins that were easily be found and bought in the parks.

Anyway, the guy was just very nasty about the whole thing and made me feel awful on my birthday :guilty: (that only lasted about as long as it took me to walk to pizza planet, because, hey- I was in Disney!). I did end up trading the pin I got from him since everytime I looked at it, it got me irritated with the whole situation again. At this point I don't even remember what pins they were, just how badly he made me feel about it.

I will also mention that 99% of all of the CMs I've ever interacted with have been wonderful :goodvibes

Any chance that "special" might have meant "disabled/special needs" in this case? I hope that's all it was! Or maybe "special guest" meant Samantha Brown, who got a darn nice room there when she did her Great Hotels at AKL?

Anyway, Jackie H, as a fellow DISer, FWIW, I think you're pretty special (in the nice way)!

We had a server in the Magic Kingdom once who was from another country. We asked a question about something on the menu and he said with a big smile "insert the Lord's name in vain" I can't remember. When he walked away from the table DH and I just looked at each other and started cracking up. We still see him on every Disney trip at the same restaurant so I guess he hasn't gotten in trouble yet for cursing to the wrong table. I just don't think he realized it was a curse word.

Yes, Samantha Brown!!! Wouldn't you just love to have her job!!! :rotfl: I love that show and everytime I watch it I say, "I want her job!" My kids now say, "yeah, we know, you want her job" :goodvibes

Harmony & ksoehrlein thanks for the good wishes. :grouphug: She may have meant disabled but for whatever reason I didn't think so at the time. Like I said, it didn't ruin my trip or even my day! We loved AKL. Now that was in the days of $109 for a savannah room there....so we are doing POFQ this trip and just as excited!!!

You know, off subject but...I was thinking I was getting tired of WDW! :guilty: But the closer it gets the more excited I am! I can hardly think about Christmas (which I love) for thinking about WDW! :Pinkbounc

Last December we were watching the Stars & Motorcars parade in MGM. We had four children with us and so we had claimed nice seats on the curb so that they could see. Half way through the parade, a CM who was late for her shift comes and stands right in front of the kids. My SIL says something to her and the CM has a total attitude. My SIL says she's going to report her and right away the CM's hand flies up to cover her name tag. My SIL says "don't worry I already have your name" (she didn't) and pretends to write it down. At that point the CM makes a made dash across the street through the middle of the parade.

We just got back saturday. I guess all the rude ones were out while we were there becuase I never saw anything but sunny smiles and a spectacular attitude.

Hubby hates rude people and has no problem telling people they are rude (which is kinda rude itself LOL). When we were getting ready to go, he said "I just can't believe how wonderful the staff was. If you dropped a towel, there were 2 people waiting to pick it up for you and another asking if you wanted it warmed".

For hubby to say that is pretty special.

And to Aunt Brenda at 50's Prime Time, Fred at MGM, Bobby at Whispering Canyon, Mike at Space Mountain, Karen at Pop Century and the manager at Resteraunt Merrekesh -

:cheer2: THANK YOU! You made our vacation SUPER DUPER SPECIAL!!!!!

I must say that 99% of the time, the CMs are wonderful. But there are times...And things...That will always stick in my mind.

For example, back during WDW's 25th anniversary. DH & I were looking at the castle (which we hated all pepto pink btw!). DH made the comment "I can't believe the covered Walt's window" (meaning the window in the front. It was covered with I think big multi colored lifesaver type candy! YUCK! YUCK! YUCK!).

A CM walking by must have heard him because he said in a REALLY nasty tone "Well he is dead a long time you know!" I mean the CM was completely nasty! Like we were stupid or something.

DH took the bait... He turned to the CM & said "Really? Walt Disney is dead? I had NO idea! Oh my God! This is awful! When did he die? When was the funeral? Why didn't anyone tell me?!?". Then DH proceeded to "breakdown" in sobs (really he was laughing inside, but the man can sure imitate a crying sob!).

The CM was shocked & obviously did not know what to do. He just stood there dumbfounded.

It was my turn next. I said "How can you ruin the magic for people like this? I should report you to guest services!" as I was mock comforting DH.

The poor CM was just shocked. :rotfl2:

DH looked up & was as calm a s could be. He then told the CM he did know Walt was dead, and while we understand there had been a lot of complaints about the Castle Cake, we were not talking to him & a CM should not be so rude to guests, espeically ones who were not even talking to him.

We then walked away. The CM still stood there for a minute with this look of absolute horror on his face.

I still get a good laugh when I think of him. Hopefully he was never rude to a guests again.

OH MY GOSH...how funny! I bet that CM was never, ever rude ever again! I'm sure the CM remembers you as well! :rotfl2:

Ah, space mountain is the HUGE white thing in Tomorrowland & can be seen from miles around. I think is more shaped like an upsidown cone, it is pretty hard to miss.

To the poster who was watch shopping, Wold of Disny is the best place to buy a watch. They have the best selection, in my opinion (Unfortunately, I have at least 45 watches :earboy2: )

We all have bad days, unfortunately. I am sure we have said stuff at the office we wish we could take back. My old boss actually hung up on a client once; his partner had to call them back. They left us anyway...

Hey, Doom! I think you missed my point. If the tourists had been in DL, and were asking where the Matterhorn was, I could see the problem. Space Mountain is huge, but it doesn't look like a mountain from the outside! :flower:

OH MY I can't breathe! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: That's so hilarious. :rotfl2:

I don't know if this is considered rude or just plain scary. My dd and I were shopping on Main Street and we were checking out with one of the CM's. He was very friendly and talkative and I felt bad because he seemed really nice but had some bad acne. Well, when we were done, he proceeded to tell my dd and I not to go on Space Mountain because someone stood up in there and got their head chopped off! I was shocked! I told him that wasn't necessary to scare the heck out of my dd.

at the gift shop in the contemporary hotel, we hgad a CM say, upon seeing the total for our purchases, "that's more than I make in a week!" Obviously, it was an awkward moment for all of us. I felt like I should tip him or something since the total wasn't THAT much!

We have been to Disney many, many times(leaving tomorrow morning for our next trip) and the majority of the CM's are so nice.
However, on one of our trips, we were staying at Beach Club Villas and apparently there was some kind of mix up and the computer showed us checking in 3 days later than we should have been!
. So, we had driven 1,000 miles and they we telling us we had no room and there was nowhere to put us! We were very nice about it and waited patiently for some kind of resolution, but the CM was not very nice. He said to us, "well, I dont know what to tell you. What do you want me to do-build you a room?"
Needless to say, this is where we called for a manager and somehow a room quickly appeared and we were refunded a portion of our vacation club points-probably because the CM was so rude.

I had a similar experience with a cast member.
Last year, we where at the check-in desk, waiting patiently as there was no cast member there (it was, after all, almost three in the morning). Finally, after ringing the bell many times, a very sleepy and grumpy cast member walk out of the break room. She started the check-in process, and she said "It looks like we overbooked this weekend, there are no rooms available. Let me see if there is one available at the All Star Sports...." I had paid for a Moderate level hotel, and there was no way that I was going to settle for a value resort. I said I wanted to talk to the manager, and she said she was. So we had a very heated conversation, and still I got no where. She said there would be a room available for the next day, but not that night. Of course I argued that, but still got no where. My family ended up in the lobby for over 2 hours, when finally another manager got there. I told him about out prediciment, and how I wasn't going to let this just go away. This manager was not sleep depribed, so he told me to wait for a minute and look it up. Unfortuately, there really was NO rooms available, so he offered me a free upgrade to The Grand Floridian. Of course, I was THRILLED, and so what seemed to be a bad prediciment turned out to be a very good thing for my family! :smooth: :smooth: :smooth:

Sure it does. But, even if that is debateable, what in the world makes it look like a mountain from the inside?

He probably hasn't gotten in trouble because he's not cursing, and that's not a curse word.

I think we all need to make our best efforts to react this way to rude CMs. If nothing else, they might share the experience with a co-worker who can get a good laugh out of it!

I've never encountered a rude CM- but some have said weird things.

On our last trip I was getting my bag checked before entering AK and the bag I was carrying was a brand new Coach purse.

The security guy said "Oh I love your purse..somebody must have some money!"
I replied "Nope- I just have lots of credit cards" and laughed :rotfl2:

I don't think he was trying to be mean about it but it was kind of rude.

We also have tons of CM's and other guests constantly ask if we are enjoying our honeymoon- we are just dating. I usually just say "If it gets us a free meal, then yes!" lol

At WWTBAM my bf got in the hotseat and the camera zoomed in on my face and the host asked my bf when he was proposing to me! How embarassing. :rotfl2:

Another weird thing is that A LOT of CM's are always coming up to my bf and say "Oh, where did you get that shirt, hat, lanyard, etc.??" And my bf tells them which store at Disneyworld. Its not annoying, I just think its funny.

Ok I'll bite  its a curse word to me and would have offended me to have it said in front of me and my kids. I probably wouldn't have reported him though.
