A CM said WHAT???

Enough has been said on the "JC / GD" theme....let it go....some are offended and some are not...whichever your case be, let it rest in peace now....

As far as "Traditions" goes, my DD is a CM at this time, went through Traditions 5 years ago as a CP, and yes she does admit that lots of the CP kids are promiscuous, not all of them are.....Traditions is still up to par on manners, timeliness, kindness, and yes also Happy Holidays....not Merry Christmas or Happy Chanukkah.....I think the whole problem is that people need money to live on, some don't quite make enough and can't get the extra education years in without making enough....so they become disgruntled against all of those who are making it without having to work two or three jobs to survive.....it also stems from all the single parents that there are in the world today...we are married 29 years, and have had many a fight, but we still stay and love each other.....many now just get divorced.....marriage is not an easy thing....two lives, two minds in one house, things are going to be crazy at times, but now a days people just get divorced....if they stuck it out and compromised the world might be in better shape then it is right now. Too many young children being left in day care, night care and weekend care because of the high cost of living and /or divorce rates....but getting back to the subject at hand.....all of my encounters with staff members have been wonderful...its the magical place it has been since I first stepped foot in it in 1976 (on our honeymoon)!!!! CM's that are rude (or in your perception are rude) should be reported to the company....if they were just having a bad day....it'll be the only time they're written up....if they always have a bad day....they''ll be gone and you won't have to encounter them at WDW anymore....I've said enough...thank you to all the CM's I've encountered on my dozens of trips throughout the years!!!!!!!

Sorry, but I thought swearing was taking the Lord's name in vain. What part of "Jesus Christ" is NOT the Lord's name? I am more offended by this than by other swearwords.

To most people that is not swearing. Swearing is using one of the seven deadly words.

Anne, dear, the verb spelling is "practising" with the 's'... and maybe you should "practise" a little harder if you aren't offended by it or think it is only "bible thumpers" who do get offended by that.

I've noticed that when people run out of logical arguments they begin to pick on someone's spelling errors and typos. And according to my Websters New World College Dictionary, my spelling was exactly what it should have been for American English.

okay, I am speechless. Lay it to rest, anne, dear.

I'm not a large brown fuzzy animal, and I don't appreciate your patronizing adjective.

Practice = noun; to practise = verb for those of us who come from a country that is several centuries older than that. But regardless of that, it doesn't detract from the fact that she needs to check her ten commandments.

You have missed the entire point. Not everyone believes in those Ten Commandments. To 1 Billion Chinese and another billion Asian Indians, Jesus Christ is a slang term at best.

Having read some of the posts/threads on these boards in the past week or so, since my return from my vacation, I find myself questioning why I am so keen on the US since this vacation I found more rude people than I have found in all my previous vacations put together. Now, the boards are continuing to prove this point. I am saddened and most disappointed that I seem to have been looking at Americans through rose-tinted spectacles. Clearly some are not so polite or accepting as I had thought. I had always thought that Americans were much nicer than UK people.... some of these intolerant posts have me doubting this. I can't say much more other than I'm going to stop posting because if my view is not "mainstream" enough it just gets called "being sensitive" or just plain wrong. I am sooooo disappointed.

Then stay home if you feel that way.

I thought this was a thread on funny/strange things CMs said...
I realize that's what started the debate but it may be time to bring the debate to a diff forum/thread.

Let's get back on track and have a good time :)

Okay, I have at least one. While DH and I were on our HM, we were waiting for the bus to arrive to take us to DTD for dinner reservations. Throughout that time, we saw other guests using the handicaped door enterance to enter (when there is no one who is disabled is using the back door enterance.) When the bus arrived for us we decided to use the back door enterance and the bus driver yelled at us for using the disabled enterance. So we exited the bus and by that time the bus filled up so we had to wait twenty minutes for another bus to arrive and when that happened, a group of people used the disabled bus enterance (and no one had a disability) and the bus driver didn't say a word. Which bothered us completely because not only did we miss our reservation and had to wait an hour and a half to eat, but it just annoyed us that not all the bus drivers instrict their rules.

It's not the biggest thing in the world but it was bothered us that one bus driver would lecture us, and a different bus driver didn't care.

Please let the issues you have with what others have posted go, folks. Spelling, slang, etc, isn't what this thread is about. Can we please get back on track with what should be a fun discussion about something other than each other?

You know, I was really excited about this thread and thought it was a neat theme and then some people have to go and hijack it for lousy reasons. Please let this thread continue on the topic it is named, ie, "A CM said WHAT?!?!?" and go start your own thread on the issue you want to address. Thank you. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Well here is a story that always makes me smile when I think of it.

We were at the MK one evening during early September. Spectro was on, but my kids who just learned what fun a roller coaster could be, and they were riding Thunder mountain again and again. We were at the back, so there would always be someone waiting for the seat, so the kids and I would have to exit the ride, and hot foot it around for another go. (the train was going half full every trip, so it was basically a walk on). When we came back around for the third time, the CM at the top of the ramp said 'sorry, thunder is broken down. Its closed for the evening. (Meanwhile there were people being loaded on the next train.) You should have seen the looks on my kids face -- disappointment and disbelief -- but then the CM said -- JUST JOKING. I got a chuckle out of it, but my kids did not think it was funny.

Anyways, the next round we get off, they want to do it again, so around we race, up through the que, and I was really hustling it. We turn one of those blind corners, and out jumps the CM from behind a wooden beam and SCREAMS really loudly. I mean, she really, really screams. I jump back and scream from the shock! My kids doubled over laughing. After my heart leaves my throat, I laughed too. That CM really enjoyed her job, and loved having fun with the guests.

This cracks me up. That is my kind of humor. It is nice to see that she was enjoying her job and that you guys took it as that and enjoyed it too. Good on ya!

I'm hoping for some "magic" like that in 2 days when we go.

This happened on my Hubby and my trip to WDW this Oct. We were standing in the line for Soarin' with an older lady behind us getting ever more anxious as we neared the loading area.

When we finally got to the ride and the 'parasail' thingy the lady was really now getting worried and was asking continuous questions to her friends/family that were riding the ride with her.

Finally when the CM came over to check out everyones' restrait the woman asks the cm very earnestly, "Does this ride go upside down or do any loops?".

To which the CM responded with a complete straight face, "No miss, this ride does not make any kind of loops and nor does it go upside down. Besides, that little seat belt would never hold you in if you did go upside down."

The woman let out a sigh of relief, the CM walked away, and with that the lights dimmed and we were 'off'.

When we got off the ride and were leaving the Soarin' area my Hubby and I could hear the lady proclaiming that she had "a great time" and that she "only had to close her eyes for a little bit" so that she would not be sick.

It was a very funny experience for Hubby and me and left us both, and the formerly concerned lady with a smile on our faces.

Not all that long after FP had been introduced we were riding Peter Pan using the FP entrance. The CM standing at that entrance was being harrassed by this family that apparently had the wrong time frame on their tickets and they were really creating a back up and a problem. (We have all seen it.) So, finally he convinced them that he really wasn't going to let them in and they stepped aside with many comments about how there was NO information anywhere about this program and HOW were people supposed to know how it worked if there were no signs about it or anything. We were right behind them and when we finally got up to the CM, he said, mainly pleasantly but you could see he had had it with this mom, "What time is on your FP?" I told him, and he said, "OH! HOW did you know to wait until this time????" Sort of sarcastic at this point, but clearly not toward me and still in his very cheerful voice. So, I played along and said, "Weeeelllll, I read the directions posted abve the fast pass machine as well as in all of the park maps and it told me just what to do!!" We exchanged a huge smile and my family and I were on our way to ride.

Here you go---the word practice, would be meditatio in latin. HTH :cool1:

Just a little comment, then a funny story. When you experience a problem (or even if you don't) and a CM says something less than magical to you, unless is inheriantly (sp?) rude or hurtful, try to take it with a grain of salt. Ask yourself if the clerk at the local grocery store said the same thing, would you be upset? They understand that you probably saved up for months for this expensive trip, but what you don't know is that their dog died that morning. Now I am a Marriott Associate, and we recieve exceptional guest service training like CMs, but we all have off days. now onto the story..

my mother had surgery on her leg in september, so during our girls only weekend getaway to WDW halloween weekend, we rented her a wheelchair (can i tell you how sore my arms were after that day? magic kingdom needs to cut down on those hills LOL) Our first stop was jungle cruise. We were directed near the exit to the wheelchair entrance, and waited around 10 minutes (the standby line looked to be about 30 minutes). We boarded, and the CM on the boat on our 10 second journey to the standby boarding line said "welcome to the jungle cruise ladies, now wave to all those people that you just cut infront of in line! Oh oops.. was I not spose to say that with the mic on?" And he was very funny throughout the ride. His gag was "every 10 minutes!!" As in, "Wow! the backside of water! How often do you get to see that? I get to see it EVERY 10 MINUTES!! Stay in school, kids."

PS - BLUES CULE!!! :paw:

We just returned from the WDW yesterday and we hear/saw some unusual CM activities, Disclaimer: We enjoy WDW every year and at home we wouldn't have been at all surprised to see/hear these comments but Disney is magical and until this trip we have yet to see/hear anything unDisney.

1) We were lucky enough to enjoy getting to ride upfront on the Monorail from Epcot to the TTC. And unprovoked the Driver starts talking about how he dislikes the holiday season and the long hours and how he hates the monorail sleil and how it gets old at 11pm on Christmas day etc. I'm sure he was just having a off day, I just kept saying say that must be hard etc, the comments I kept to myself were that alot of us non Disney workers work those same hours and have to spend time away from our families etc and we are enjoying our vacation to take in the Holiday season because we enjoy that time of year. Not terrible but like someone else said it does weaken the magic just a little, makes you feel like you are putting them out by being there.

2) We were eating bfast at Donald's Restauraus, we noticed the floor was wet when we arrived and very slippery, we were seated in that same room and while we were eating an older gentleman fell hard and his family was trying to help him up, a CM showed up and not only didn't ask if he was okay or comment to him etc, but stepped over him and out the door he went. I was very surprised now if I was anywhere else I wouldn't have been shocked, but at Disney I was very surprised.

3) We had a rude waitress at Beaches and Cream, we couldn't do anything right, she approached the table and said "what do you want" I asked a question about the chili dog as to whether it contained onions and peppers, she said it never has had that, now I know it did a few years ago because DH had to swapp meals with Dnephew because it did, anyway she said NEVER has it contained that, well we get it and its full of onions and peppers so DH swapped with DN again as we were afraid to comment to her about it she was full of eye rolling etc. She arrived back at the table as the meals were exchanged and said to DN so you didn't like it huh, I said well its full of onions and peppers and she was like guess you didn't like it much then huh?.
I assume she to was having an off day and a half :confused3
I work with the public everyday (not a waitress) and I would never make someone feel stupid. BTW the food was good as usual (except for DN's onions and peppers)

Disclaimer: Again we did have a nice time and I'm sure we will return again, but for the first time ever we experienced some unDisney like occurances.

Kim

Yeah, Kim,... don't you sometimes feel like telling the CM that you have been coming here longer than they have been working there?!!

I took my grown daughters to the Food and Wine Fest at Epcot last year. Now, my daughters are straight A students, wonderful kind human beings, and strong independant women. They also, like many their age, have tatoos, piercings, a mohawk, blue hair, and a different way of dressing. I don't mind, they work full time, never get into any trouble, they can look how they want.

Anyway, we were walking near England at Epcot, and the girls noticed that Mary Poppins was in a shop. They were thrilled (Disney always seems to turn them into nine year old girls), and wanted to go meet Mary. As they walked up to her, Mary looked down at the little boy in front of her, pointed at my daughters, and said, "See? That's what happens to bad girls who don't listen to their nanny. They end up looking like that!"

I was furious, but my daughters both pulled me out of there laughing their heads off. To this day, they still crack up when they talk about the day they were "burned" by Mary Poppins.
