Ouch! Two points for sugarpie! :hippie:

I know this is not helpful, but I usually drink local Wisconsin beers. In my fridge right now are Ambergeddon brewed by Ale Asylum here in Madison (a hoppy and malty "west coast style" ale), Hearty Hop IPA brewed by the New Glarus Brewing Company in New Glarus, WI (I LOVE their "Spotted Cow" which is light and yeasty) and Wisconsin Amber brewed by Capital Brewery in Middleton, WI. I don't think any of these are available in FL.

Spotted Cow is my favorite beer. You gotta love WI beer. :thumbsup2

Samuel Adams or Amberbock (an american made german style bock) would get my vote for an American(USA) beer. For a north american beer, I like several of the Mexican beers. Top picks would be
Corona for a pale lager
Dos Equis for a pilsner or Amber

I don't think you'll find a bitter in Orlando. I'm sure I've had an American ESB, but I don't recall where or when. It's just not a common beer here. Mrs. Toad, does Pyramid make an ESB? (not that it's available in Orlando)

Americans have yet to take a shine to bitters, unfortunately, so they are few and far between. The best ones are available only on draught at small brewers. If you get to Baltimore, MD, go to the Wharf Rat and try an Oliver's Best Bitter if they have it available.

Red Hook makes an ESB that is a decent beer, although arguably not a true ESB. They are part owned by Anheuser-Busch and their beers are available through A-B distributors, so you should be able to find them in most places. Frequently it will be a 12-pack sampler with the ESB, IPA, Rye ale and something else that I can't remember.

IPAs seem to be all the rage over here now and there are some awesome examples of the American version. I think you can get Dogfish Head beers from Delaware in Florida, but not sure about the Orlando area. They've got a 90 Minute Imperial IPA and a 120 Minute IPA that are excellent. Bell's Two Hearted Ale is brewed in Michigan and available elsewhere in Florida, but not in the Orlando area as far as I know.

Being from Texas my vote is Shiner Bock. If you are ever in Alberta I would recommend anything that Big Rock brews.

I'm not a huge beer connoisseur , but I have to second (actually...it's about up to 52nd at this point ;) ) the Sam Adams recommendation.

I also liked several of the microbrews they offer at the brewery over at the Boardwalk. On a warm summer evening, it was just the perfect ending to the day to get one of the boardwalk tables and try out their selection (I, personally, liked the red, but can't remember the name). Just enjoy the atmosphere, hang out with DW, and peoplewatch. :teeth:

Oh, and if you're ever in Philly, hit the Independance Brew Pub in the old train station (wanting to say it's the Reading terminal, but can't swear to that). They have some awesome microbrews. :thumbsup2

I like the Spaten Franziskaner, which I first tried at Epcot. :drinking1

Oh wait, I think I had 2... :drinking1 :drinking1

DH prefers to brew his own beer since he can get much better taste than he can buy (for the most part) in the U.S. When he's run low on his own craft beer, DH likes Sam Adams Boston Lager, which is widely available in the U.S. (most grocery stores and liquor stores carry it).

One of these days, when we get across the pond for a visit, I can see myself taking the family around to all of the usual tourist stops and DH dragging us to a collection of pubs, breweries, and such..... somewhat like those guys who took their wives to Europe so they could check out trebuchet designs because they wanted to build one that could hurl a Buick http://outside.away.com/magazine/0895/8f_bird.html.

Enjoy your trip!

I'm a fan of Killians (red) and Stella. Killians is American disguised as Irish. And though Stella is not American - it is my new favorite and can probably be found at any bar. Brooklyn Lager is a favorite around here - not sure where you'll find that one though

If you're going to WDW - check out the brewery at the boardwalk. You can get a sampler of all the beers there. If you are a real beer drinker - you'll enjoy it a great deal

Not keen on Stella, a common 'lets get drunk' lager here

I'm pretty sure Killians is just Coors with red food coloring added. I visited the Coors Brewing Company, Golden, Colorado and got the smell of their hops stuck in my nose for about a week. Then much later (months or years), I drank a Killians and it was overwhelming how much it tasted like Golden smells. They brew Killians in Golden.

In addition to Sam Adams, DH also recommends anything from Sierra Nevada, esp. the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (pretty common to find in restaurants, grocery stores, etc..) though he isn't sure how someone from England will respond to the Cascade Hops.

One of DH's favorite brews is Dog Fish Head Raison D'etre which I googled and found is distributed at Unique Beers in Orlando, FL. Also, DH recommends anything out of Russian River Brewery, but it doesn't look like they distribute much outside of California.

If you aren't willing to chase all over for beer, DH says ask the bartender(s) for local brews. American craft brewing is very regional and you're likely to experience some beers that you can't get outside of Florida. In the absence of local brew, Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada are fairly widely distributed and you should be able to find them most anywhere.

no it is not. I like Killians, hate Coors

copied from http://www.coors.com/brews_brands.asp

Killian's Irish Red is a traditional lager with an authentic Irish heritage, based on the Killian family's recipe created for the Killian's brewery in Enniscorthy, Ireland in 1864. Coors acquired the rights to brew and market the product in America and Killian's was introduced to the U.S. in 1981.

Killian's Irish Red derives its distinctive red-amber color and taste from a special caramel malt that has been roasted at a high temperature longer and more slowly than most malts. There are no coloring agents or artificial additives used in brewing Killian's. The brew is known for its rich amber color and thick, creamy head.

Really???!!!! I'm surprised to hear that. We had a couple of those Stella glasses that look kind of like snifters, and I broke one. My husband is still mad at me about that. ;)

Sam Adams
I am not an American beer fan at all and I love my Sam

Ditto ... my favorite beer of all time ... although I love to try local microbrews as often as I can ... the breweries who make less beer in a year than the beer guys spill on their floors.

This cracks me up. Killians is essentially Coors beer, with some caramel barley added for color. and a bit of taste. What cracks me up is the bit about being a traditional lager. Traditional in that Coors makes lagers. The folks in Ireland make Ale.

If you like it, great. And, don't tell anyone, but on a hot summer day, I really enjoy a Blue Moon.:ssst:
