A beer that tastes good?

Anchor also makes two good ales - Liberty and Steam. I prefer Liberty.

Anchor is a classic, they really helped start the craft beer movement in the US. Liberty Ale is a great example of an American Pale Ale. And I second your Sierra Nevada suggestion as well. Can't go wrong with either.

Some of my domestic favs:
Yuengling (even the light is good)
Sam Adams (again, the light is good as well as many of the other varieties)
Blue Moon (traditionally served with an orange slice).

I think I am going to have to try the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I have been eyeballing it.

Micholob Ultra is not a typical american beer. I wouldn't even call it beer.

What type of Ales do you like? There are plenty of great American beers that you can share with your friends. Tell us what you normally drink and I can find some comparable American alternatives.

We do ger the normal run of the mill US beers, Bud, Bud Lite, Bud Ice Etc, Micholob and Corona(do you not realise there is a reason this is drunk with Lime:rotfl: )

I prefer Fullers to Youngs and like Spitfire, Wadsworths 6X and many more but they have taste which I find many US beers lack. Even a larger like Grolsh has taste.

I have tried Anchor beers at least they have some flavour, and Sierra Nevada.
I have not seen Widmars Hefewizen.

These suggestions are based on what I saw available in stores in Kissimmee on my last trip. There are other good American beers, some are even oaken flavored syrup, but the WDW area of Orlando has a pretty limited selection, I think.

Holla!

I just checked -- they have distributers in FL, so you should be able to find it in the supermarkets. :thumbsup2

They have a brewery in Tampa, you can find it at supermarkets, convenience stores, gas stations.....

Mich Ultra tastes watery because it is watery. Its low carb/low calorie.

Have not tried this, will I find it in a Supermarket or specialist shop or not in Florida?

You can find it at the Animal Kingdom Lodge lounge.

I don't know where else it is available.

Not sure if you can get it in FL or not, but Magic Hat is also a pretty good beer.

In general, I think the craft brewers are doing their best with IPA's these days. I'll take a local craft beer over almost any mass market beer.

Agreed, I try drink local as much as I can. Fortunately, there are some great breweries in the North East. And American IPA's are far better than their English counterparts. (No offense to the OP :) )

Hmm, I seem to remember a Monte Python joke about making love in a canoe. Sadly, not DIS-friendly…

Anyway, keep in mind that Ultra isn't beer - it's beer flavored water for dieters.

There are tons of Great American Beers. Most are regional, so it's tough to make a recommendation. Go to good bars and trust your bartender. In general, I think the craft brewers are doing their best with IPA's these days. I'll take a local craft beer over almost any mass market beer.

But if you want a mass recommendation - or you get stuck in a bar that restricts itself to the mass brewers, Sam Adams isn't bad. Right now they have a summer ale that's pretty tasty.

I have tried a few of the brews at the Big River Grill and Brewhouse in Epcot and some of them are interesting.

My two favorites and old reliables are Bass Ale and Sam Adams. Sam Adams (the regular kind), Sam Adams White and Sam Adams Summer Wheat are awesome.

Seems like you like to drink English Pale Ales, I'm not sure what Wadsworhts is though, I've never heard of it. American Pale Ales are generally more hoppy than the English version, but Sierra Nevada is a great example of that style. And its available just about everywhere.

Sam Adams
Yuengling (available several places in WDW)
Shiner Bock (from Texas)
Leinenkugels (Leinie's) but skip the Summer Shandy :headache: my favorites are Northwoods Lager and Big Butt Doppelbock
craft breweries like Goose Island

or go Canadian
LaBatt's and others are readily available in supermarkets

My personal favorite's Fat Tire; unfortunately, I don't think you can buy it east of the Mississippi. Sorry for being of absolutely no help whatsoever. :)
I was going to mention Fat Tire as well! :thumbsup2

Sam Adams and Anchor are good and found all over, but like someone said, the better American beers tend to be from microbreweries and are regional, so it's hard for someone like me in Colorado to recommend something that you'd be likely to find in Florida. I like the advice of asking the bartender for a recommendation, in fact we do that a lot when we're in another area, even within our own state. Tell them you're English and they'll know not to give you any of the watery, mass-produced American beers. :thumbsup2

And have a great trip!

Bitters rather than Pale Ales, IPA (Indian Pale Ale) was originally brewed for export to English soldiers and administrators serving in India with a higher alcohol and hop content, but you probably know all that.

I prefer my regular beers darker as a traditional bitter but not as dark as a mild, porter or stout although do like them as a change.
