A Bedtime Story?!?!?!

Would you pay extra to use the "bedtime story" option?

  • Heck yeah! My pet deserves a bedtime story, and ice cream treat and anything else I can afford!

  • Um... no

I read the recent blog about the new pet resort across from Port Orleans. Now I'm a huge animal lover, but a dog is not a human its a dog. Dogs are happier running around sniffing things with other dogs not watching the disney channel on their flatscreen tv:happytv: Disney even has a $6 a day option for your pup to be read a bedtime story each night:rotfl2: I also noticed they won't do this for the cats which makes even less sense.

Still, I'm sure there are people who would totally use that service so I HAD to put up a poll. Don't be shy. Tell the truth!

My wife has been pushing hard for us to get another dog.. I have stood firm.. I DO NOT WANT ONE.. We had a $400.00 pure bred poodle that lived a few years and then died due to a tumor.. Broke my heart.. now my oldest son, and myself are against getting a dog.. and my wife and youngest want one.. even though the hair causes my youngest to break out..

I hope I can win out, and we stay Dogless!!!!

My dog would be just as happy to have someone come in and just pet him and give him some running time than to have someone read to him or have a tv on 24/7. He is the type of dog that loves to snuggle up under a good blanket and sleep all day. It is funny though that there are people that will actually pay for their dogs to be just as pampered as us humans are when staying at WDW. For instance, this is not in WDW but here at home...my parents foster Greyhounds right from the racing tracks. The last dog that they fostered was sent to a huge home in a really ritzy neighborhood where the woman gave this dog his own room with his own bed/furniture and tv. This dog is going to be so spoiled rotten to the core, but on the flip side, after what he has been through in his life, he probably does deserve some pampering :goodvibes

I've used the same chain before. I've never paid for bedtime stories, ice cream or bottled water for my girls. Not there, not at any kennel. They're animals for pete's sake. The only thing I do pay extra for is play time for my girls. And I only do it every other day. Don't want to spoil them.

My guys (5 dachshunds) prefer I read them the stock market report before they bed down---
But seriously, I think bedtime stories at $6.00 is a bit much. Most I'd pay would be $4.50---

I voted "Heck, yeah" mostly because I know that my dog really likes "people time". He's really enjoy having a person in with him for a half-hour, reading aloud, and paying attention to him. Does he "get" that it's a bedtime story? Of course not. But he also doesn't understand any other words (other than the obvious "sit", "down", "leave it", etc). So just the fact that someone was talking would entertain him. Same concept with the TV. It's backgroun noise that makes it sound more like home.

I would assume that stories aren't offered for cats because cats are more likely to ignore you, so what's the point! :lmao: And really ... dogs thrive more on the companionship.

That said ... I don't travel with my pets because I think they need as much of a vacation from me from time to time as I do from them. I have a pet-sitter who feeds them, walks them and plays with them for a few hours a day. The TV and radio are on timers so that there are "normal" sounds in the house. Pretty much the same concept as getting a "bedtime story" and having a TV available.

:earsboy:

Would I pay for the extra's? I 100% would and do. It is not unusual for my bill to be more than that of my vacation. I do not have an issue with paying for them to be paid attention to the same level as if they are at home. I do not think that aminals are just happy stuck in their cage all day. My pugs love watching tv. The youngest has such medical issues that he really can not go out and play in the heat or with other dogs. The oldest i have likes just to be left alone in the ac. She has no interest in playing anymore with others. Now the baby Chihuahua, you could leave him out all day with other dogs no matter what size.

My Chihuahua ( who passed this winter at 20 years) hated being left behind. He let us know this when he got home. He would refuse to eat or look at you. He really let you know his displeasure. If ice cream and some extra cuddle time is going to remedy it I see no problem with it.

I guess it would mean a little extra people time? I can't see that as being a BAD thing.

Terriers didn't get bedtime stories when they roamed the plains alongside the buffalo.

How would you know if they read a story to your dog or not?
Is the dog going to tell on them if they don't?
Just wondering.

You'll know when you go to read a story to the dog yourself later and he stops you and says he's heard that one before.

Not sure about the Disney kennel, but ones around here have "nanny cams" so the owner can see the dog 24/7 from their computer or smartphone. So you would know if there was a story being read.

Personally I have never left my dog in a kennel. And only once in her life has my dog ever been left with a non-family member sitter. And that was this summer when my father-in-law died so we really dint have any choice.

Actually, when I asked my dog if this would be something she would like she jumped up and down with excitement. When I asked a cat, I was treated with utter disdain accompanied by an, "Oh, puh-lease." So that may be the reason for the disparity.

:rolleyes1

A flat screen TV and a bed-time story? That's funny. :)

Heck no! However, I would like to be the person working there reading the 5 minute story to the dogs for $6 each! Now that is some nice money per hour!

I will gladly accept the money from any person willing to spend on things like this! :rotfl: I'll even give them a goodnight kiss for another $6. :thumbsup2

To answer Heidi's excellent question--you really DON'T know if they were read to--or walked extra-or played with extra. Which is why everyone should thoroughly check out any kennel to see if there were any reports (from former workers usually) who might report this sort of thing.

As for me--I never board my dogs in a kennel--heck, I WORK in a kennel attached to an Animal Hospital. We always get a house sitter to stay with our 5 guys.
